About The Horsham Clinic

The Horsham Clinic is a behavioral health facility located in Ambler, Pennsylvania. They offer treatment to people with many different mental health conditions. They treat adults who suffer with substance use disorder. They specialize in treating people who are experiencing mental health issues and substance use disorders at the same time. They provide inpatient and outpatient services. They take private insurance and self pay.

When you come in for your assessment, you should bring all the clothes you will need for a five day stay including pajamas. You will not be allowed to bring electronics to treatment.

The intake specialist that you meet with will need to know your medical history, and they will need a list of all the medications you currently take. You will be given a drug test to determine if you qualify for inpatient treatment or if you should attend a partial hospitalization program (PHP). The PHP lets you go in for treatment during the day and go home at night.

If you need to detox, they have an around the clock medical staff that will monitor you constantly. They can prescribe medication if you need it to detox safely and comfortably.

People with dual diagnosis are often treated with dialectical behavior therapy which trains people to accept their reality and to change their attitude towards it. They also use experimental and recreational therapy. You may also engage in art or dance therapy while you are there. They also offer family therapy for people whose loved ones have been affected by their addiction. They even host some 12 Step meetings.

DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE. I went here and it was absolutely atrocious. When I first arrived , I sat down on a random chair for over 20 minutes waiting for a staff member to get me to a room while I was fresh out of the hospital for attempting. The staff were either standing around talking or off in the office. The paint was peeling off of the walls, the floors were disgusting, and the furniture had rips and holes.Once I was finally put into a room, I was put in the panic room because they didn't have any more space when already 3 kids were sharing one room. The food was horrible, was either raw or discolored, and most of us did not eat. I saw other kids get snacks sometimes after meal time, but when I asked, I was refused.I had issues with the staff, too. One of the nurses, Juanita, had used the blood pressure machine on me one morning and had squeezed it so tight my arm was hurting and circulation was cut off, and I was close to tears. She didn't stop even when another kid had pointed it out to her, but she was too busy talking to another staff member and didn't do anything to help me calm down after she finally took it off.I had an issue where a bunch if girls ganged up on me wanting to fight and I was so scared and the staff member in the room just sat there and did nothing, absolutely nothing, and other kid had to help me calm down.I received no help once so ever, nobody to talk to, nothing. And, my parents were asked how they would be paying every time they would call to talk to me and make sure I was still alive. All in all, the place is awful, disorganized, and selfish, and I can not imagine a worse place to send someone who is actually struggling. I went over 3 years ago and have been scared to share my experience until I saw others had similar issues.Get it together!

If I could give a zero start review I would. There is no help from the "Psych" at all. He mocked me and thought I wasn't serious. When asking about legal things you will not get answers. I told them multiple times that I have a hard time getting out of chairs with my muscular dystrophy and yet they did not listen. They wrote time and time again that I had m.s. and when asking about making accommodations they simply failed in every department. It got to the point I called the police from the facility twice to report the issues at this facility and the supervisor decided to tell the police I'm safe and no need to worry. That was not the case. This facility practices keeping anyone who has insurance to stay as long as they can so they get paid. Most of people in my group were homeless and could leave at any time they'd like with an easier withdraw out of the program. I went in because I had a reaction to my medicine that gave me suicidal thoughts but I would never act on them and never even think of hurting anyone else. Finally when I threatened legal action they started coming to their senses and when my parents got involved they finally learned how to be "caring" of my needs. This place deserves a review by the state and there will be more files against this facility due to the lack of actual medical care. No I do not wish to ever contact anyone in this facility so please do not ask me to because it was a waste of time when I brought it up there and I am done wasting my time with you. I hope to get the word out and bring the community closure with the actions I will be taking.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
With a partial hospitalization program (PHP), you can participate in intensive rehabilitation treatment with the ability to return home at the end of the day. For a weekly minimum of 20 hours, a partial hospitalization program can take place up to 5 days a week for an average of 90 days. During PHP treatment, you can receive relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group therapy, and other behavioral therapy interventions.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Because the severity of withdrawal symptoms can fluctuate, constant monitoring under 24-hour clinical care in Pennsylvania is recommended for early recovery. As you undergo detox, medical staff will supervise your health and ensure severe symptoms do not develop or threaten your life. Professional counselors will also be available to treat mental and emotional health needs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

if I could rate this place zero stars, I would. I stayed there in June of this year. the staff on adolescent 2 were horrible. especially miss deja. but anyway, there was a kid on that unit who was either seventeen or eighteen. (mind you, im thirteen) and one time, we were at dinner, I think, and he grabbed my butt. like, aggressively too. so, i told a staff member and they did nothing. i told another staff member, they told me to tell a nurse. i told a nurse, who finally listened. she told the nurse manager. so, after like three days of waiting, the nurse manager came down to talk to me. she asked me a few questions about what happened, and then left. the next few days were a living hell. the kid would stare at me, hold my hand and just wouldn t leave me alone. then, the kids unit got moved. but not because of what he did to me, because of a fight. moral of the story, don t send a loved one here, especially if they re thirteen, female and getting put on a unit with people older than them. but really, you shouldn t send anybody. that place made my life worse. the staff and other kids made me want to kill myself. so, never EVER go or send someone there. oh yeah, AND the staff would not treat us like human beings. they would deny us from using the bathroom and even getting water. and I have a gluten allergy, so when I didn t get a gf meal, the staff wouldn t do anything. (except miss morgan. omg she was the best) but they would treat us like animals and refer to us as animals as well. just- don t ever send anyone here. even though kidspeace sucks, send them there instead.

The techs in this place ( Natasha I m looking at you stat3 ) do not treat the paitent s like humans she actively referred to us as dogs on my first day (Oct 22) they were making an already scary situation significantly worse. The only shining light was the therapists and some of the nurses (shoutout to Jinny for respecting us and motivating us) but if you have the option do not leave anyone here

I was a patient a this and other facilities in the northeast of Pa and highly discourage drug addicts and alcoholics treatment here or at any of the facilities because they try and take files and match them to mental patients to try and remove the addiction and call it a mental addiction instead of what it actually is a substance abuse issue, I have been technologically harassed placed on calls with very vindictive spiritually amuck persons to attempt to recover me as a mental patient instead of facing my problems as an addict head on, im happily 13 years sober from cocaine and other street drugs this January. I highly encourage church and prayer and meditation for addicts because the issue nd or the resolution is not injections or mental ssris. I happily enjoy the occasional glass of wine or half of glass and calm pallet accent of alcohol for the taste buds. Lesson in life that I would enjoy to speak someday about in an open forum and maybe even have the opportunity to testify for financial gain huge expectation of a relentless person to my American freedoms and single success as a drug free grown adult man. I'm 51 years old now and learned a great lesson in when to say when and enough is enough. I have not be slobbering drunk in over 9 years in conclusion it was a horrendous horrible drawn out 14 year saga that I will never ever repeat in my life again

Not really sure where to start. I agreed to have my son admitted thinking it was best but I was very wrong. The staff does very illegal things and denies patients basic rights. Dr. George refuses to give minor patients the 72 hour hold form. One of the staff members antagonizes patients. Ontop of the place being dirty and the staff just making things worse besides one nurse (you were amazing Mr. Tyler) they over medicate and just make things worse.
