About Hope House – Women and Children’s Program

Hope House – Women and Children’s Program is an addiction treatment center that provides a supportive, safe, confidential, and substance free environment for women and children. This “halfway house” is a safe haven for women struggling with substance abuse problems in the Albany, New York area. Those aged 18 and older are welcome at this detox center if they intend to obtain sobriety and maintain it.

For more than 50 years, Hope House has provided individuals with compassionate, caring, and experienced service, and the Women and Children’s program is no different. This treatment allows women to address family and personal issues in relation to their drug and alcohol abuse. The below section details this program:

Often women who are mothers or who are pregnant have complex substance abuse disorders that affect not only themselves but also their families and the community. At the Hope House – Women and Children’s Program, the team at this New York rehab understands these issues and works alongside women and their families to address them.

At this facility, services are given 24/7 to individual women and those with kids, with the limit being two children up to nine if it is census permitting. Most women in this program receive specialized services, including individual and group therapy and substance abuse education.

After the initial residential program, the women are enrolled in outpatient treatment. Women can obtain medication assisted treatment (MAT), psychiatric care, and educational or vocational counseling during outpatient treatment.

I stumbled upon hope house accidentally. I was new to the city of Albany. I ended up in a rough situation and was kicked on the streets pregnant with 3 children. It was freezing cold and my children and I were not dressed correctly to be on the streets in the winter weather. I was having a panic attack and needed help. I thought this place was an apartment building and began knocking and ringing the bell frantically. The staff and women there were so supportive and loving to me and my children. They had no reason to open the door and let us get warm. They had no reason to offer my children a bite to eat. Instead they did those thing and then sat there with me for the entire day making phone call after phone call when the police failed to help me. I will forever be grateful for there assistance, love and kindness that day. I was only there for a day as I waited to find a DV shelter as my situation wasn t quite what hope house is there for but the kindness and love I felt from every single person in that building was something I ll never forget. If your struggling with addiction I KNOW they will welcome you and your babies with loving arms and support.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
In the Women and Children's program, women who are enrolled in outpatient treatment and may be “stepping down” from more intensive treatment settings are provided with an environment that continues to support their recovery while also meeting their unique needs as women and mothers. The Hope House Women and Children's Program recognizes that women in outpatient treatment – or even those who have completed more intensive residential treatment programs – may require a safe, supportive, substance-free environment in which to live while they continue to work on a broad range of personal and family issues.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I lived at hope house with my two children, ages 8 and 4, and it was the most positive influence on my journey in recovery. I gained the understanding of what it takes to have meaningful sober support, friends, and family . The women and staff at hope house were more of a family to me than my own ever was. The support from the staff in this program is more individualized than any other I've ever been in. I would definitely recommend this to any woman that is looking for a way out of addiction and a path to a brighter road
