About Hope By the Sea

Hope By The Sea is a mental health and drug and alcohol treatment center. They’re located in San Juan Capistrano, California near the beach. They treat men and women 18 and up and offer a young adult specialty track.

The program accepts many of the major insurers. They also take TRICARE. They’re in network with many insurance companies and also take many out-of-state insurers.

The first step in substance use treatment is detoxification. The center offers medical supervision for your detox to keep you safe and comfortable. The time it takes to detox varies depending on your age, state of health, and the duration of your substance use.

After detox, if appropriate, you’ll move to the residential treatment program. This is an inpatient program that offers individual and group therapy. You’ll learn the 12 Step program while taking part in exercise, social activities, rest, and reflection. You’ll eat healthy nutritious food during your stay. The idea is to instill good habits that you’ll carry into your everyday life that will help you succeed with your sobriety.

After the residential program, you can transition to the intensive outpatient program. The program offers continued therapy and support including daily or weekly individual and group therapy. The intensive outpatient program is also an option if you can’t take the time for the inpatient program. The focus is on relapse prevention and teaches you how to handle life’s daily challenges without using substances to cope.

There are some more relaxed outpatient programs available as well as specialty tracks. The specialty tracks include the dual diagnosis track for those with co-occurring mental health disorders. A co-occurring disorder is a mental health diagnosis in addition to substance use disorder. Some examples include depression or anxiety.

The center offers special programs for Veterans and their families. They also have an executive treatment program that allows you to be available for daily business and work obligations while participating in your treatment. There’s a Christian track and a non 12 Step track as well.

My experience at hope by the sea was great. I went in to do 30 days. The detox was ok. It was not a house but that s ok. It was a duplex. It had a side for girls and a side for boys . I had 1 roommate. The staff was very nice and welcoming, the only issue was that there was limited food besides the lunch and dinner that they bring which is only Monday through Friday. They do not serve food on weekendsbut they had little things in the kitchen but definitely could have been a little more but it s tolerable. I m vegetarian and they did provide me vegetarian meals. The meals aren t fantastic but they were good enough and sometimes I actually really did like them. I went into residential after detoxing and the house was really nice. It had some things that needed to be fixed but nothing major. All the workers seem to really care and would give good advice. Catherine, Dylan,Alexander, were my favorite workers for sure! Miss you guys already and my sober family They take us to aa meetings 1-2 times a week and would take us shopping Saturdays. We would do group counseling Monday through Saturday from 9-4 . Saturdays from 9-12. Mondays and Wednesdays you had the option of regular group or pastor Pete which was a Christian group. He explains the word of good in ways you can understand. Sundays you can either go to church or the gym. Overall I definitely would recommend this place. I did see other reviews were saying they don t let you take your prescription meds and I did see that with a friend there. So be sure to ask about that before coming. I made sure to ask a lot of questions.

I came from Oklahoma as many know one of the worst spots to be in. Taryn was able to help me get a plane ticket setup the next week had a driver waiting for me (9/2/2024) and still to this day still in the program and absolutely loving it. If you apply yourself, it works. I'm not a paid actor. I'm a former addict that F***ED up a lot using. I was even able to step away from cigarettes. But if you come in with an attitude, everyone should bow down to you. You're not going to get far. This is by far the best program I have ever seen. Not to mention the most beautiful detox facility. It's going to suck at first, but come in with an open mind. Other options aren't working obviously. Otherwise, you wouldn't be reading this. Thank you, Hope, by the sea and most of all... Thank you, Taryn. You saved a life hats off to you!

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Hope By The Sea - Del Obispo offers a full-service residential drug and alcohol rehab for women and men. Their inpatient residential treatment program is designed for people who need to get away from the fast-paced outside world in order to reflect and find serenity. Their treatment program integrates a well-rounded balance of individual and group therapy sessions, 12-step meetings, social activities, exercise, healthy meals and time for rest, relaxation and reflection. Learning these habits in everyday life is essential for people who are determined to succeed in their addiction recovery after the inpatient addiction program is complete.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Hope by the Sea is a full-service treatment center that provides intervention, aftercare and sober living in Orange County. Sober living homes are safe, drug and alcohol free, environments in which peers support each other in their sobriety and learn new ways to cope with problems and conflict. Staff at their sober living home are often recovering addicts and alcoholics themselves and are able to provide support and advice to people who are newly sober. Because residential drug and alcohol rehab is just the start of recovery, oftentimes sober-living homes help people further develop healthy coping skills and daily habits to prevent relapse.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
During the first phase of recovery – detox – it is crucial to have 24-hour clinical care in California. This care provides constant monitoring in order to ensure your safely and comfort as you progress through the withdrawal process for drug or alcohol addiction. Licensed professionals prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and provide frequent monitoring to ensure your safely as addictive toxins leave your system.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Hope By The Sea - Del Obispo's addiction treatment facility offers a residential detoxification program that is the beginning of healing the person's mind, body, and spirit. True treatment and recovery does not begin until the initial detoxification process is complete. During detox the person will still be 'in the fog' of their addiction and also processing the withdrawals of the chemicals leaving their system.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
