About High Focus Centers Parsippany Outpatient Treatment Center

High Focus Treatment Centers is located in Parsippany, New Jersey. This is an outpatient addiction and behavioral health treatment center for teens ages 10-17 that is a hybrid of in-person and telehealth video conference sessions.

Although they’re only outpatient care, they do offer several levels of outpatient care, including standard outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization programs. Their program follows proven styles of treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy.

This center has a 16 week curriculum of education for those who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. You’ll attend weekly group meetings in order to relate to others with similar issues and learn from their experiences. Your treatment will be specific to your needs and the intensity of treatment may increase or decrease at any time for your comfort. You’ll also benefit from individual therapy, family therapy, recovery skills training, and my favorite, holistic therapy. This includes yoga and art therapy. It seems like they’re willing to attack addiction from different angles, which I love. If you need residential care, though, you may need to be referred to another clinic.

car-building iconOutpatient

Many patients who graduate intensive outpatient programs have flourished in the group setting and wish to continue in the milieu at a lower level of care. Others may be working with an outpatient substance abuse professional in the community and wish to complement their individual counseling with a weekly group session.

bed-front iconInpatient Rehab

Clients often enter inpatient rehab following detox, but they may also enroll during early recovery or at an increased risk of relapse. Inpatient rehabs provide housing, meals, and intensive clinical supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery in a highly structured and supportive environment. Clients typically receive multiple individual, group, and/or family therapy sessions weekly. Many programs also offer extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training. Integrative inpatient rehabs provide holistic therapies as well.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

The Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program at High Focus Centers helps the individual to remain abstinent, engage in the twelve-step recovery process, and return to a normal, productive life. Treatment is comprised of individual, group, family and educational therapies, all integrated within the context of the twelve-step model of recovery. They provide day and evening programs 2-5 days a week for 3 hours per day, as well as a comprehensive family program, a Saturday relapse prevention program, and psychiatric evaluations and follow-up sessions, as needed.

house-medical iconAftercare

Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.

book-medical icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

people-group iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in New Jersey is more than a confrontational conversation. This organized effort is specific and goal-oriented. During the intervention, family members share specific examples of how the person's addiction has impacted their lives and spell out what they will do if the individual does not get treatment. The intervention also presents a clear treatment plan, which typically involves input from intervention services.

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Many individuals suffer from both substance abuse and psychiatric disorders simultaneously. The initial assessment at High Focus is designed to identify the nuances that these patients present and offer a proper diagnosis so that the optimal treatment course can be pursued. A comprehensive program has been designed for individuals with a dual diagnosis which includes a weekly psychiatry session, a specialized psycho-educational curriculum designed specifically for the co-occurring population, group therapy interventions and DBT skills training. Co-occurring patients are given random, supervised drug screens.

file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

prescription-bottle-pill iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing helps clients find their motivation to change. It can be an effective method to work with clients who are angry or hostile or feel insecure about their ability to make changes in their lives. It is often used during addiction treatment or to manage physical health conditions.

Trauma Therapy

The Trauma Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treats adults who have experienced a recent traumatic event, as well as those whose past history of trauma contributes to ongoing psychiatric symptoms or PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). Structured as an IOP, the Trauma Program at High Focus Centers provides a level of care that is higher than traditional outpatient services. The Trauma Program is meant to complement longer term individual or group therapy for trauma or PTSD, either as an initial treatment experience, or as an alternative to traditional outpatient therapy during a period of heightened symptoms.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

For best results, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) should be combined with other methods to quit smoking. While NRT addresses physical dependence, other quit program elements are necessary to address emotional and mental dependence. Together, these supports can help you successfully quit tobacco for good.

Today was my discharge from High Focus and I knew I wanted to leave a review. My time there was nothing but helpful. I was at a super low point in my life when I began but with the hard work and dedication all of the workers put in I am on such a good track. I have learned so many skills and found a new self love. I am so grateful for my experience at High Focus.

My experience was excellent. I loved the group therapy atmosphere, and the different perspectives and value that each clinician brought during our group learning sessions. My prescriber was additionally effective and helpful in treating me. Andrew Paine was my assigned clinician and was diligent and extremely helpful in assisting with my treatment, and providing me with the skills to handle/cope with my mental health diagnosis. I would recommend this facility to anyone. Additionally, for anyone looking to attend this facility, you GET OUT OF IT what YOU put in. Also, the folks that I met along the way may have been the best part of my experience.

I went to High Focus at a major low point in my life and while I was initially apprehensive, I found an incredibly open, safe, and compassionate environment full of people who wanted to get better and help each other get better. The clinicians are exceptionally talented, helpful, and professional (special shout out to Marsha for challenging me in our personal sessions and making me feel supported at every step of the process). The unique validation and support from group therapy, variety of lessons and skills I learned through DBT, and opportunities to explore wellness activities like art therapy and yoga all contributed to a life-changing experience that has changed my trajectory for the better. To anyone who is struggling and considering group therapy as an option, throw yourself into it and trust the process. It is like nothing else I have ever done and I cannot recommend it enough.Happiness - 5Hopefulness - 5

I went to high focus at my lowest, I had done intensive therapy before during the pandemic and it was a long road I was confused and lost. I didn't really know what to expect when I was told I would be doing PHP in may 2024 I was intimidated to say the least.Being at high focus in parsippany really helped me grow and accept parts of myself I never thought I would be able to. They gave me tools I will carry throughout my life and I know where to go when/if things get bad.I cannot recommend the "gen-z think tank" enough. shoutout to my clinician Marsha and all the clinicians, interns, and staff at this location my life didn't end at 25 its just beginning again and I'll always be grateful for your kindness during one of the darkest parts of my life.happiness 5hopefulness 5

High Focus is a great support for teens in crisis and their parents alike. When times of struggle arise, High Focus provides a strong program of treatment for the teens in a safe environment, and group support for the parents. When faced with the unknown and unsure of what to expect, their staff is very helpful in explaining the process. They have a great team of clinicians and staff.

I was at a really low point in my life and high focus became my safe place. Getting help can be terrifying but it is worth it when you finally discharge and look at all the progress you made. I ve been here for two months and I ve built so many connections. The DBT skills I learned have helped me navigate through daily challenges I face. The process groups are also really helpful to learn how to listen and speak in front of others. To the clinicians - Sophia, Marsha, Andrew, Josh, Amber, Lauren, Danielle Melissa, Kamryn and everyone else: I appreciate all of you!! I can t recommend this place enough. The clinicians are there to help you and listen to you and meet you where you re at. This place changed my life tbh

Serious mistake going to this place. It gave me the worst panic attack I ever had in my life. For some reason, they gave more attention to people who have a drug addiction than mental health issues.
