As a long time patient here my experience just gets worse and worse over time. The psychiatrists and therapists are all quite good: no complaints there. But actually reaching them for medication refills and appointment reminders has consistently been very difficult and has only gotten worse with time. To the point where I've had to go a week or more without critical medications. They recently appear to have been acquired by Optum Health (I think that's their name) and have restructured the phone service to be even worse: now I can barely get a hold of them for medication refills. They don't even give the option on the phone! They just redirect you to some call center hundreds of miles away or send you straight to voicemail! It's sad because the people who work there are quite friendly and the actual doctors seem to be good. But the entire operation feels SO mismanaged - all to the detriment of patient accessibility.

While my experience with counseling was good, their billing department is so atrociously incompetent I would never consider returning. I ve been sent a bill now for over two years because they have billed the wrong insurance company, and I ve tried each time to call them to get it resolved and have only ever spoken to a person once. They ve never returned my calls. The one time I spoke to a person, I gave my updated insurance information but they ve continued to bill it to the incorrect insurance company anyway. Clearly, no one there is working given they have not returned my calls once nor taken the time to update my insurance information to fixing the billing issue.

I wish I didn t have to leave this review. I have been a patient here for a few years but I have been with my psychiatrist for 25 years. I moved with him here when he moved to this facility. I called to make an appointment with him because my meds need to be refilled and I check in officially with him every three months. When I was called back today I was told that I could no longer see him because the facility does not take my insurance. I said I know and we had been paying cash. I was told that policy had changed and that was no longer possible. Then I was told no less then four times as I started to object that We don t care! When I explained my 25 year history We don t care! When I said he has kept me stable for 20 years We don t care! And on it went. This place has TERRIBLE customer service which I already knew from other dealing but this went to another level. So was graciously told they would fill my meds for a month so I could find another provider. I said I would contact my psychiatrist directly and they told me I couldn t. I said I would be. I have ways of reaching him outside this office, thank goodness, given our 25 year history. He works there so I know there is a quality doctor on staff, but I have been treated like dirt by the rest of the people I have come in contact with. They do not seem to understand they are dealing with people who have mental illness. Nobody deserves to be treated this way but when you can push somebody over the edge by carelessness at a mental health clinic, you need to reevaluate why you are doing what you are doing.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I wish I had taken the time to read the reviews published about this facility before becoming a patient last spring. My primary care doctor has always prescribed my anxiety and depression medications, but I felt like I would benefit more by regularly seeing a psychiatrist who would help me manage my medications. I started seeing a psychiatric nurse practitioner at heron ridge. We never met in person, but would video chat once a month for 10-15 minutes, which did not benefit me at all, but it was a requirement in order to continue receiving my medications. I was a very compliant patient and only canceled one appointment due to a medical emergency (I was at the hospital with a first degree burn). Heron Ridge tried to charge me a fee for missing that appointment even after I notified my NP about why I had to cancel. I lost my job and health insurance at the beginning of November of last year, so I was unable to schedule another appointment for the time being. My NP at Heron Ridge told me that their policy states that patients must be seen at least every 3 months to continue receiving their prescription medications. I was sure I d get another job within the next month or two, so I wasn t too worried. I was able to get a new health insurance plan which becomes active at the beginning of next month, so I scheduled my next appointment at Heron Ridge and asked the front desk if I could also get a prescription refill for the upcoming month until I am seen again at the beginning of February. They told me this wouldn t be an issue (since 30 days had not yet passed since my last appointment) and they would pass along the request to my NP. I emailed my NP the following day to confirm the front desk had passed along my refill request to her and was met with an extremely rude email telling me not to bother her during business hours when she is with other patients. All I had done was simply sent an email to double check if my request had gone through, which could ve been answered at any time that day when she was not with a patient. I did not need an immediate response. She went on to tell me not to contact her through email again and that all communication must be done through the front desk. Per her request, I contacted the front desk again to inquire about my refills to which I was told that my NP would not be sending my refills. These are psych meds that I have been on for over a year that cannot just be stopped cold turkey without severe side effects. I had to beg the receptionist at the front desk to please communicate this with my NP until she finally sent my refill in. The receptionist went on to tell me, Come hell or high water, you better be at your next appointment if you d like to continue being seen here. I ve never been treated so unprofessionally by any medical facility or staff until this experience at Heron Ridge. I felt very uncomfortable continuing to be a patient here and immediately made an appointment the next week with my primary care doctor so that I could return to having my medications prescribed by him. I am no longer a patient here and would highly recommend staying away from this unprofessional clinic.

I was being sent bills in the mail repeatedly after being told that they were not going to charge me. I already paid $210.00 in appointments, and now they are insisting they charge me $235.00 with no explanation. Every month I call, they said they would stop sending me bills. This has happened 5 times. When I called today, understandably upset, Jules continously cut me off, and then hung up on me. These people do not conduct honest business practices, and they are also scam artists who try to take you for your money. NEVER do business with these folks.

This place is slightly better than the nightmare that is New Oakland. My therapist seemed good initially but ultimately I did not improve in the 3 years I worked with her I also tried to get referrals for some family members and they were set up with therapists who never returned their calls. There was a time when I needed to talk to my therapist and I called her on a Monday in a mental health crisis and she did not call me back until the following Thursday. Although she apologized I suffered days of PTSD symptoms without help. The NP my therapist referred me to seemed ok but I had occasion to see her documentation about me and she was documenting that I was taking different meds and dosages than she was prescribing me which caused serious confusion as I am now trying to find a new provider for my meds.If you have the money please don t go to Heron Ridge and avoid New Oakland. Unfortunately therapy is just like everything else, you get what you can pay for.Good luck out there

Dave left a patient without a therapist and that same day the patient wound up in the E.R. coincidence? Most definitely not.

My fianc has been a client here for years. The desk workers responsible for putting in his medication orders have repeatedly failed to do so in a timely manner, to the point of him having to call 2-3 times on average for a refill. Considering he is on medication that he can immediately feel the effect of not taking bc of how severe the withdrawal is for him, it is unacceptable

BEWARE: (not only Plymouth location) Have been trying to reach someone for weeks to get into therapy. This is extremely alarming that not only when you call, no one answers, but even if you leave a voice mail they NEVER call you back.
