About Heritage Behavioral Health Center

Heritage Behavioral Health Center in Decatur, Illinois, provides behavioral health care for substance use disorder treatment and treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions. They offer residential and outpatient treatment that includes medication assisted treatment (MAT) using FDA approved prescription drugs to manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings during detoxification and ongoing treatment. The residential care program treats adults 18 and older, providing evidence based treatment programs that include cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy in individual and group settings.

They are a nonprofit and accept donations to help provide treatment. And they offer a sliding scale fee schedule when you qualify. Sliding scale fees are not available for drug screening and blood alcohol levels.

The substance use outpatient program is available as a follow-up to residential treatment or as an initial treatment option. Your program also includes an aftercare and continued recovery plan to support long term sustainable recovery.

The adult mental health treatment program provides short term treatment in the outpatient program. Their services help you develop effective coping skills, and the long term goal is to decrease your need for behavioral health services. They also provide crisis services when you are experiencing extreme sadness, have suicidal thoughts or have extreme anxiety.

In addition to substance use disorder treatment, they also offer treatment for gambling addictions that may co-occur with substance use disorders or mental health conditions. They also have a Narcan treatment program that teaches you how and when to use Narcan in case of an opioid overdose.

The Open Access Clinic is available for walk in assessments. They also offer virtual treatment options.

The quality of care provided by the therapists and doctors is fine. The problem is that you can expect to wait at least 3 months for an appointment if you even get one. Oh, and be sure you show up before they even open or you'll be turned away. This experience is based on having been coming here since 2017, so if you're a new patient, good luck because you're going to need it. The truly amazing thing is that when you come in, they plant the tree that will eventually become the paper they'll write your name on. Pulling your own teeth with your bare fingers is an easier and less frustrating process than even getting the most basic service here. Today alone I have sat in the waiting room for over three hours and that's actually a short visit. Unfortunately for those of us without much money they are virtually the only option. Prepare yourself to be without your medications for months at a time due to the sheer difficulty of getting a simple appointment with your prescriber; That absolutely will happen. Again, the services provided are good but don't count on getting them.UPDATE: 1/9/2024Scheduled an appointment months ago with a specific doctor and was lied to multiple times about it, because I arrived today to find that they had never scheduled me with the doctor they kept telling me I was going to see, who is a specialist in certain needs I have. Only go here if you have no other choice, and if you do, you will have to be very aggressive with the administrators or you will be brushed aside.

Zero integrity and very unprofessional. Management doesn t care about anyone below them and have no idea what actually goes on with patient care. All they care about is filling beds without properlyy treating the clients. They will lie and will change your schedule without your knowledge. I wasted six month with them.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Heritage provides up to 8 hours of treatment per week in Substance Abuse Level I treatment. Substance Abuse Level I treatment is designed to assist those with addiction problems to become drug free and to become as successful and productive as possible in whatever role(s) they fill, parent, employee, significant other, etc. The program has an emphasis on the development/enhancement of life skills essential to the person’s recovery while helping clients develop insight and knowledge about addiction and the effects it has on them, those they care about, and the society in which they live. Treatment consists of treatment planning, ongoing assessment and treatment plan review, psycho-educational and therapy groups, individual counseling, and the development of an aftercare/continued recovery plan.
inpatient iconInpatient
Heritage’s Residential Rehabilitation Services assist adults 18 and older with drug and/or alcohol dependence to regain the emotional and functional stability which has been lost as a result of their addiction and to prepare them for outpatient (level I and II) services by developing and enhancing basic life skills as well as substance refusal skills. Residential Rehabilitation Services provides a 24 hour structured therapeutic environment for individuals at the greatest risk of relapse if they do not continue the treatment process within a 24 hour supervised environment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Heritage’s Crisis Stabilization/Detoxification Services provides a 24-hour safe, therapeutic environment for adults 18 and older who are in a serious emotional, psychiatric or substance abuse crisis with the intent of preventing placement in a more intensive level of care and/or by assisting clients in stepping down form a more intensive level of care who may not be quite ready to return to their own home. Detoxification services assist addicted clients with safely withdrawing from alcohol and other drugs and to assist individuals in regaining stability and prepare for ongoing treatment.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I have been a client with Heritage for over 15 years. As many people know, sometimes it takes a person several rehab stays before getting it right and being able to remain clean and sober. After many years of heroin addiction, and multiple attempts at sobriety with several ... Read More

I was in a bad spot and I needed to talk to their crisis line as they advertised. The lady that answered the phone seemed slow...and definitely not professional at all. She seemed confused as to what I was wanting. I had to repeat myself. Finally she understood with a reluctant tone said she would contact the crisis counselor and have them call me back. They never called. I do not recommend them at all! What a horrible place! This was in the Clinton Il. office.I will add I did get help from OSF in Bloomington initially and ultimately the guy upstairs answered my call for help. Thank you God!

I went to start the ball rolling for counseling as I had a new cancer diagnosis and needed to talk to someone. They scheduled me TWICE and I showed up with no therapist no counselor and no explanation for what happened. I was apologized to profusely and they scheduled me with a counselor who barely spoke to me the entire session. Didn t ask me questions. Basically said oh and I m sorry that s tough the whole hour. Abruptly said our time was up and I felt worse after I left than I did before. That s a huge issue given this is a BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER. I ve been on the back burner literally as a patient now since September 8th. It s December 12th. That is outrageous and honestly if you re really truly seeking help keep looking. They are trying to fill their doors and secure funding, whether they have the intention of getting you real help or not. Don t trust them.

The support staff there are so bad that it ruins any help you actually might get. Wanna sit in a lobby for 20mins after your appointment? Support staff has got you! Wanna here juicy gossip from around the office? Support staff has got you. Wanna deal with possible HIPPA violations well you guessed it thanks support staff now I need a therapist before I can meet my therapist. Oh as a side note there are some nice people working there but honestly they are drowned out by how much anger the support people left me

The doctor gets to call in to your appointment via a zoom meeting but I am forced to go in. Totally unfair.

I felt with heritage adult services and essesment at St Mary's. Very saddened by lack of services and handling of people on adult psych floor . Even for st Mary's it was extremely poor review. They have an excellent Dr at their disposal but poor services to clients on the unit so sad. I can only imagine how adolescents must feel. My second dealing with heritage. First 20 years ago.... Sadly it was bad then too.

Heritages priorities are messed up.. Instead of buying medical equipment that they need, they buy expensive planters outside.... And they fraternize with patients... There is alot of favoritism in this place... Also... Certain Councilors do drugs, but then look down at those who need treatment.... Ive been going there for 3 years, and if there was ANYWHERE that is closer to me, then i would be going somewhere else...
