LONG POST!If you are on the fence about seeking treatment, I beg you - GO! Maplegrove is an oasis in the desert. I wouldn t be here today were it not for this very special place. The staff are angels; they will treat you like family and will always give you a shoulder to cry on. Comfy private rooms and bathrooms, fantastic food, 24/7 support for whatever you may need. The days are scheduled so that you can attend meetings, lectures and activities and still have plenty of down(nap)time. Specifics: (this would have been helpful to me when I was debating going into treatment)First - yes they are going to take your phone, but you have scheduled times throughout the week that you can use it, and there is a phone room where you can make outgoing calls anytime you need to. It sucks at first, but after a day or two it s honestly a relief to be without it.You ll start your day with breakfast if you choose, or you can sleep in and grab a bite from the pantry which is always stocked with food, snacks and drinks. After breakfast you ll get your vitals taken and get your morning meds. After meds there is usually a community meeting, speaker or activity. You can pick and choose what to attend; full attendance is always encouraged of course but you don t have to do it all if you don t want to.I went to everything because I genuinely enjoyed it, but if you re feeling poopy you can opt out and just chill in your room. (Bear in mind if you re really not participating your insurance company can drop coverage. Or so I ve heard.)After the morning activities you ll go to lunch, after lunch there may be an outdoor walk or activity scheduled, again you can choose to participate or not. After that you ll go to group. Group is for men or women only, lasts an hour and a half and is a great opportunity to get your feels out and make friends. There are daily yoga classes, art activities, a little library, and a therapy dog named Bravo who will steal your heart. There s also a cute little shop where you can get toiletries, candy, books, even stuff like leggings and pjs. And Phyllis! Phyllis takes care of everything related to FMLA, medical leave, insurance etc. She is also the shopkeep and a truly awesome person. She ll get you your disability coverage and pop you fresh popcorn while you wait. There is free time in the afternoon during which you can go to the gym, sit in one of the massage chairs, read, or hang out in the lounge. There are separate lounges for men and women stocked with puzzles, games and books, as well as an outdoor balcony that looks onto a small lake. My favorite downtime activity was sitting out with a book and watching the deer and the hummingbirds. :) The lounges also have tv s, so every night the girls and I would pick a movie, make popcorn and chill until bedtime.Maplegrove was not at ALL like I expected. I assumed everything would be mandatory and that they d keep you busy all day long but that was not the case. This is a retreat. It s a gift. You won t want to leave when it s over. Blessings and good luck! You can do it.

Accepted Insurance

Henry Ford Maplegrove Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Michigan is essential for certain phases of recovery treatment. During detox, many physical ailments related to the detox process can be lethal if not treated. Having medical staff available at all times provides the proper care for safe detox. Medications and other treatment can also make the process much more comfortable and bearable.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan helps participants view challenges more clearly so they can respond to them in healthy ways. During a limited number of structured sessions, clients learn about and practice these changes to effectively address substance use and mental health disorders.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Both internal and external factors can put stress on a relationship. Couples therapy helps you and your partner work through those stressors and find healthy ways to deal with challenges as they arise.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

To maintain a healthy and productive life, you need certain life skills. They help you make good decisions and build good relationships. Because they are key to long term recovery, most rehab programs in Michigan include integrated life skills training.

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

Quitting smoking is tough without the proper support. A good quit plan often includes nicotine replacement therapy. These products allow your body to adjust to a lack of nicotine, so you experience fewer cravings and less intense withdrawal symptoms.

Absolutely saved my life. I love that they bring in multiple support groups, as a nerdy engineer-type who had never been religious, I never would have guessed in a million years that good old-fashioned AA was the one I d fall in love with, but that s what s happened.Just passed 16 months clean and sober, my health has improved tremendously, and I m living a life I never could have dreamed possible when I checked myself into Maplegrove, half-dead, in late 2022. The 12 step promises are true - you will be amazed before you re half-way through

0 stars! My wife was there 3 times in the last year. It seemed like a good place. Now she needs to go back and they told her to find a new place with no explanation or reasoning. Been calling for days and no one will return our calls. Is it because our insurance benefits are maxed out? What type of place claims they re there to help people but ignores them and leaves them in pain while they try to find alternatives?Treatment only with better insurance it seems ..

I had a seizure here because the doctors didn't believe me. I had to stay more time and got charged double by my insurance because I had to be brought to the hospital because of the seizure. Also, one of the MHAs, on my first day, said "get up and do things your insurance isnt paying for you to sleep". I'm detoxing and My insurance should be doing their job. It was not a good vibe.

I came to Maplegrove in the fall of 23 with some heavy baggage. I had low expectations due to some unsavory circumstances at other inpatient facilities. I m proud to say that Henry Ford Maplegrove exceeded my expectations. The reason I was originally interested was due to the fact that they provide private rooms for every patient on the unit. Facilities are clean when you arrive and maintained daily. Once arriving to Maplegrove, you are greeted by some of the kindest staff members i ve ever met. Before entering, a covid-test is given that may take up to 3 hours, so plan ahead. After that, you ll meet with a tech who will perform a search, take vitals, and conduct a small assessment. My first day in detox, I don't remember too much, but I do remember the compassion that was shown to me by the techs and nurses who knew nothing about me but knew everything about my struggles. The techs, made me feel welcome and comfortable as I was introduced to the facility. The nurses, made sure I knew that I wasn t alone. The first couple of days most of us sleep, shake, and sweat and, while this is uncomfortable, the staff are trained to handle withdrawls, monitor vitals, and talk you through cravings and psychiatric issues. On the first day of treatment, for the first time in years, I finally felt like I was safe. The second or third day of your visit you should start doing the groups that are provided. Maplegrove will keep you busy if you let it, and your insurance is being charged for lectures and group therapy anyway. The weekends can be kinda slow sometimes, but for some that free time is necessary. Most weekends, Tuesdays, and Thursdays you ll be allowed cell phone time for about an hour. And if you think an hour isn t enough to catch up with friends and family, you still have the option to call your people in the phone room which is open, everyday during free time. Activities are abundant. Yoga, Volleyball, Ipads, ping pong, tv, art, reading, and socializing are just a few. Not to mention the four massage chairs that will make you wonder why you ever drank in the first place. Most days the recreational therapist, Crystal, offers super fun and meaningful activities that you can tell she puts thought into. Meals take place between groups and activities at 7am, noon, and 5pm. And the food is pretty decent with nice variety, healthy/vegetarian options, and a killer salad bar. A fully stocked pantry is also located on the unit and open 24/7. This is a non-smoking facility! If needed the nurses will provide patches and gum to curb cravings. You are assigned an individual therapist who you meet with every other day for about 30-45 minutes, as well as a group therapy session that takes place everyday. It ranges from person to person but I saw my psychiatrist about twice a week, he was able to start me on a routine that has been serving me well. The medication lines are probably one of the only downsides however, with people waiting over two hours sometimes to get medication. There are AA, NA, and SMART speakers who come in to explain their programs, however, no one tries to recruit you to a cause. Sometimes these meetings can get repetitive but I promise you that you will learn something new each time. Lectures are another great plus. If you open yourself up to them you are given the skills to remain sober. Take notes! Keep in mind that there is no visitation. The last thing I need to mention is that every staff member there are what make Maplegrove what it is. I have so much gratitude for the staff of Maplegrove. You can tell that this is more than a job to them, you can tell that they care, and you can tell that without them, your recovery wouldn t be the same. Huge thanks to the techs, nurses, therapists, janitors, cafeteria workers, and each employee that steps foot in that building. Thanks to them I'm confident in my ability to continue my recovery. This place gave me back myself and that means the world to me.

After taking 3 days to get in which causes unneeded stress and anxiety they made us wait in the parking lot for almost 3 hours for covid test which again more unneeded stress and anxiety this gave my husband enough time to second guess himself his anxiety finally got the best of him and he walked away.pretty sure this is not the way addiction should be handled we were looking for help not more stress

Went to Maplegrove back in 2016 and had a wonderful experience. My insurance didn't work out, but they let me get comfortable before referring me to a program in California. I've since graduated this program, I have stayed sober, and have been working for this in the field for 5 years now. Only complaint is that I have been trying to connect with someone on their outreach team and its impossible to get ahold of anyone! Id love to come in and speak as an alumni as well!
