About Helen Ross McNabb – Blount CountyHelen Ross McNabb – Blount County

Helen Ross McNabb Center’s Blount County clinic is based in Maryville, Tennessee. They offer mental health care, social services, and substance use treatment. Support is available to children, teens, adults, and families. Good faith estimates are offered to those without, or who are choosing not to use their health insurance.

This center offers what is known as a ‘full continuum of care’, meaning they’ve got your back through every stage of recovery. From initial detox, through to residential, outpatient, and beyond. Medication assisted treatment is available for those who need it. You’ll get controlled levels of approved medications like Vivitrol or buprenorphine. These are used to help control withdrawal symptoms with the support of structured therapy and educational services.

Reviews for this center are mixed, though they skew largely negative. Many former clients complain of the center’s prescription services and staff, as well as those at the front desk. Complaints mention the difficulty of getting hold of the staff at all, while some go as far as to describe them as unprofessional, and ineffective. Unfortunately, much of what is said in the negative reviews tunes out a lot of the good.

If no stars could be left I would do that. After a major med mix up, my daughter was prescribed the ONLY med she can t take due to low blood pressure. It s in her chart. It was prescribed and picked up not being AT ALL what was discussed. Now 10 days after an appt we have to have another TODAY to fix their critical errors. I would think twice before using them for help. I m disgusted. I hope you don t work a full time job as a single parent because these constant appt eat up time and money. I am just that a single mom having to leave work so my 7 year old can be apart of a video call. Do better.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
The Helen Ross McNabb Center provides outpatient mental health services at clinics located throughout East Tennessee. Outpatient mental health services are provided to children and adults who have a significant impairment in functioning related to a mental health diagnosis. Services include psychosocial assessments, therapy, medication services, and case management. The goal is to improve the client's overall functioning and to help identify any barriers that compromise the client's emotional stability.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) receive robust, personalized care to support their reintegration into their community. Clients stepping down from inpatient treatment frequently enroll in IOP before entering standard outpatient care or community-based recovery programs, such as AA. Intensive outpatient treatment generally involves between nine and 20 therapeutic hours weekly, with the frequency and duration of sessions decreasing as clients stabilize. IOP services commonly include counseling, recovery education, holistic therapies, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.
12-step icon12-Step
When enrolld in an addiction recovery program that's based on the 12 step model, clients are able to cultivate recovery-focused life skills emphasizing spiritual, mental, and emotional healing. Participants receive intensive peer support in 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, open to the public, and available day and night in most communities. Self-selected sponsors guide sponsees through the recovery journey, cultivating self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability. Though these programs are rooted in spiritual principles, participants aren't required to be religiously affiliated.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
To keep you safe and comfortable during the detoxification process, a medically assisted detox provides you with a team of medical professionals who can provide the necessary medications to treat any potential withdrawal symptoms. Suddenly stopping chronic abuse of substances like alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Typical cognitive behavioral therapy in Tennessee involves recognizing negative thinking and learning techniques to change that thinking and create new, positive behaviors. Strategies may include SMART goals, journaling, and situation exposure.

Counseling in Tennessee that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach can last from six to 12 months. During that time, you'll develop skills in the areas of distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Therapy services are an integral part of the integrated services provided by the Center's outpatient clinics. Clients are identified for therapy services after a psychosocial assessment is conducted at an intake appointment or at any other time during their treatment process. Therapy clients demonstrate a need to work out their life problems in a one-on-one relationship with a helping professional. Each therapy session is tailored to the needs of each client.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

The people working at Helen Ross are the ones responsible for getting my life back in track. To be honest I didn't thought I was going to be able to make it but after every week I felt a lot of improvement and that was what kept me going.

Maybe they don't have the best program and the best therapists but I learned a lot because of the harmonic atmosphere you could feel when you stepped into the facility, everyone looking for the same thing as you and everyone encouraging the other patients.

Every month I get my prescription it s always a constant game of phone tag. Between the front desk ladies who could care less about their job other than getting through the day and the nurses making constant mistakes when either transferring your prescription to another pharmacy or missing vital information for your script to the point the pharmacy can t fill your script. Trying to get ahold of these people is impossible. When they are tired of dealing with your issues they ll just transfer you to the nurses line at that point you ll leave a voicemail and never hear back. Avoid if possible

First went to Helen ross as a teen, told them I was actively self harming and suicidal and was completely ignored until I was hospitalized. Now as an adult, I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia and autism. I put it in my paperwork that I am autistic , and mentioned it several times during my intake, but they put down that I had a "possibility" of autism. They even said it to my face after I told them several times I can provide documentation, and even gave them the name of the people who diagnosed me.I'm fine with wanting documentation to make sure everything is correct, but why accept all of my other diagnoses with no questions asked? They had no evidence of my other diagnoses. I hadn't even told them who diagnosed me or when.Slowly learning that even with a diagnosis , doctors still will try to debate whether or not you're actually autistic .

I'd give it a 0 if possible, don't waste your time. And don't bother trying to get through on the phone you'll be on hold for close to an hour then get sent to a voicemail box and they don't return calls. Not sure how they are still open.

Outdated elders workers as prescribers. Crammed 4 people in a tiny room asking personal info about a person with severe aniexty diagnosis. Some people are to smart for their own good. Use some COMMON SENSE!!. I know that's a rare thing these days.
