Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

The worst place to go for your recovery. They want to mold you into something you're not. It's a cult.

If youre really looking for help this place is not for you. You cannot be honest about how you feel, they will kick you out of their Cult. They have life coaches that have barely been sober 6 months in charge of the place. I hope you never have to go through the judgement I felt while I was there

Was told I failed program due to hernia from exercises. Lied to me and kicked me out. Found out later they graduated me 6 months early. If you like being yelled at and treated like dirt try the rehab program. Guy running it likes to break you down even if you don't need it.

I liked how they keep you in shape and busy, and I met some great guys while in there. Was interested, hearing was a Christian organization but other than church once a week it wasn't what other organizations are.Rude staff, i got accepted after the piss poor excuse of an interview they had given me, which they try to get under your skin to see how you'd react. Most recovery institutions encourage those who get in, not break them down. Luckily I wouldn't let it get to me at first but after seeing how they treated a peer of mine sharing his testimony and after praying everyday to bring me where God needed me to be, I explained how I felt to my "life coach" (the really odd uppity bald guy seth I think his name was) which I'm pretty sure wasn't even a certified addiction counselor and he just was someone who went through the program himself, and told him I would like to find somewhere else, he kicked me out right at that moment to division street with all my luggage without Letting me find somewhere else to go or showing any concern and simply said "the salvation army is that way and maltrotters that way". I understand limited availability but the life coach (Seth) took my opinion extremely personal and mocked me when over hearing me express my concerns to a family member on the phone and was actually really rude to my mother when she called to check on situation (since I'm not familiar with Grand Rapids). This kind of shocked me I wasn't rude to him and was just being honest about how I felt, as I thought I was supposed to do with a "life coach". Luckily this was the best decision I made for my recovery and landed in Gateway Forge program in Holland and they accepted me that night. It's a longer program but staff sees you as an individual, they encourage you and have people that you can tell are there because they want to help people in these situations. I can see a big difference in these two places. Everyone I've met since, that's been to Guiding Light had a very similar experience. Glad it led me to where I am though. One star for sure.

My boyfriend was optimistic about this place so I didn t look into it that much. I should have read the darn reviews.Drove my boyfriend 3 hours there in a snowstorm and I had to get a hotel bc the man on the phone said you can t blow any numbers. Which no one told us that he had to be sober and he did apologize. My boyfriend has some mental issues right now but he is very kind and respectful. They were told on the phone and when we got there about his mental state and the gentlemen said that it shouldn t be a problem.A couple days later I have to pick him up again but I can t get him today so I had to get him a hotel and get him tomorrow. I m spending a lot of money now. What I think from reading the reviews and what happened to him is that you definitely can t have any mental issues which is fine but don t waste people s time, money and mostly hope. Please make that a criteria that the admissions people can tell certain people who have a degree of mental illness is ok to come in but other mental illnesses we don t take. Would save everyone a lot of time and money. The worst part now is my boyfriend feels so rejected. Please consider the mental health part even if you say that wasn t the reason.

Was a great time to talk with people and all but if your at the shelter don't get anything to bring here you have to throw it out and all the shelter won't let you have anything at all so to help the homeless here would be a waste incarnate

Horrible! Recently my brother was transferred to this facility to receive help. My brother researched this facility and felt it was a great place to begin his road to recovery. He traveled over 5 hours to get to this facility and when he arrived, he was put in a room isolated from everyone for 5 days. During this Time, he received no help but waiting. After days, he met with Daniel Irwin. Who told my brother he wasn't a good fit and that he had to leave that day by 5pm. In addition told him he could go to the shelter down the street. When I spoke with Daniel and asked him what was the reason my brother was not a good fit, he rudely told me that he didn't have to give me a reason but that my brother needed to leave! He did say also that my brother didn't do anything wrong. So long story short, they dropped my brother off at The salvation Army. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by no one due to the fact that NO ONE WAS THERE! I reached out to Brian the CEO via Facebook haven't received a response yet however I will follow up with other people, I won't stop there. This is something that should not be ignored. I believe an investigation needs to be but in place because I have never heard of a facility kicking someone out for no apparent reason and not even try to place them somewhere else safely! I most definitely put this situation in GOD'S hand! When you do people wrong it will most definitely come back to you.

As a non-profit and 100% donor-funded ministry with limited space and resources, we are not able to accept all individuals seeking treatment into our Guiding Light Recovery program. Clients meet with an Intake Coordinator as well as multiple Case Managers / Life Coaches prior to a decision being made on their acceptance. In some cases, clients are referred to partner organizations that may be better equipped to treat the individual.
