About Gospel Rescue Mission – Men’s Center

This center has a focus on meeting basic human needs, which it sees at square one in the former drug user’s eventual attainment of sobriety. Guys who feel like they’ve hit rock bottom or have been sleeping rough and want to make a change may find themselves accepted and supported.
Expect individual talks with the director of the site from time to time, along with counselors and other staff. Visitors and admittees can expect free meals prepared in the kitchen to reduce the burden of any lingering financial circumstances that would cause someone to have to go to bed hungry tonight.
This center has an interesting history that goes back to the days of the famed American railroads, where the current owner’s grandfather started the program for indigent men who would hitchhike aboard trains through the area. They may also provide a food bank to the local community.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

This Place is Misleading and Damaging – Families Deserve Better I completely agree with everything that’s already been said. Our experience here was just as upsetting—and honestly, shocking. The way this place operates is not only outdated, it’s irresponsible. From the outside, it may seem like they’re offering help, but once you’re inside, you quickly realize it’s more about control and compliance than actual support or healing. They say it’s a family shelter, but the structure and culture don’t reflect that at all. There’s no effort to differentiate between individuals recovering from addiction, those recently released from prison, and families just trying to get back on their feet. The result? Children growing up in environments where they’re witnessing instability, stress, and sometimes even aggression—all while being told to just accept it as part of “policy.” Staff behavior is another huge issue. Certain employees blur the line between professionalism and personal interest, especially when it comes to how they interact with men. It creates unnecessary drama and tension in an already high-stress setting. If you’re in a committed relationship, expect disrespect, gossip, or subtle retaliation. Beyond that, there’s a huge gap in real support. They push people into low-paying jobs with no education around credit, housing laws, or how to build actual financial stability. There’s no business support, no entrepreneurial pathways, no digital literacy training—just outdated thinking that keeps people dependent rather than empowered. As someone who was seeking real resources to rebuild, I left feeling more demoralized than when I arrived. We were lucky to get into a better shelter afterward—a place where we weren’t treated like criminals, where we could cook our own meals and not feel punished for simply wanting to stay together as a family. What’s happening here isn’t just favoritism—it’s neglect disguised as structure. It’s time someone looked deeper into this organization. Families deserve real resources, real safety, and real respect. This place is not equipped to provide any of those. This facility operates with a harmful one-size-fits-all model, forcing everyone into the same “get a 9-to-5” path without recognizing different life circumstances. I’m an entrepreneur and asked for resources to help grow my business—what I got instead was pressure to get a warehouse job or nothing at all. They don’t teach anything about credit repair, current housing laws, tenant rights, or financial literacy. It’s just about checking a box and pushing people through the system without truly equipping them for long-term stability. The food was terrible and improperly stored, and several people became sick. There’s also a culture of surveillance and punishment rather than support. If you don’t fall in line, you’re out—no matter what your situation is. If you care about families, children, or actual progress, you should know this: This place is failing the very people it claims to serve. It needs to be investigated, held accountable, and either completely overhauled or permanently shut down.

Gospel Rescue Mission is an asset to the people in the community it serves. I have been able to utilize the benefits of the programs. Both times looking for "housing" resources that are one of the programs offered there. The "workforce" program is an asset to alot of people coming into the program with difficulty finding jobs. There is the "community service" part of the program that if you have charges through the "judicial" court system. Your "community service" hours can get them paid off. Gospel Rescue Mission takes in 10 new clients a day. Monday through Thursday 5:30 am starting time. Marlene and Maria thank you for being a great "voice" for the system we enter into when we get here. Everything that you can possibly need you can find at the Gospel Rescue Mission. I applied for a job but was not chosen for the position. But I have met the man that did get the position. He needed it so much more than I did. GOD bless and Keep Trusting.
