About Genesys Hillside Center for Behavioral Services

Located in Grand Blanc, Michigan and operating under Ascension Healthcare, Hillside Center for Behavioral Sciences specializes in behavioral health services for children, teenagers, and adults. Their programs are available on an outpatient basis, allowing clients to live at home and tend to personal and professional responsibilities as they participate in treatment. They accept private insurance and also offer financial assistance.

One impressive feature of this center is its well-staffed clinical team. At this single location, four psychiatrists and 22 therapists are available to help you work through your condition, learn healthy life skills and coping mechanisms, and break free from the chain of addiction. After-hours services are available in the evening.

If you’re an adult seeking support for substance use disorder and a co-occurring condition, such as depression, intensive outpatient programming s available. This program includes the same outpatient services but meets more hours per week.

You may also be able to work with the staff to connect with local resources that can help you sustain your recovery after you complete treatment. Most aftercare programs include referrals to peer support groups, food assistance, transitional housing, and related services.

Was trying to call to schedule my son an appointment since we missed the last due to insurance issues and apparently they closed. They didn t even bother letting us know so we could make arrangements else where! My son was just starting to open up and now we have to search and start over!

Tina is one of the most amazing people out there! She takes the time to really get to know her patients and their needs so that she can provide care that goes above and beyond. Ascension Genesys Hillside should feel very lucky that they have Tina on their staff!

Doctor J Leigmann doesn t treat patients because he doesn t know how to! Horrible doctor! When he can t treat you he pushes you to see the therapist! He got my drivers license suspended because he refused to sign the form! 1 year and 4 months and this guy is so useless that he brings you to rock bottom! If you care about your mental health please look for the next doctor who will do a much better job than him. Rude secretary at the front desk and unprofessional nurse. Stay away from this terrible place and seek real help!

Tina really cares and works very hard to make sure my meds are working. She puts a lot of thought and research into all her decisions and I feel safe under her care.

I started seeing Wendy for therapy and Dennis for psychiatry, after my husband died in 2020.Wendy and De nniswere great. I decided to let my PCP prescribe mymedication, and I started seeing a life coach. I decided to return after experiencing some triggers during the annual date of my husband's death. I was scheduled a telehealth appointment with Robert Bates who cometed an updated BPSA in 15 minutes and charged me $140. I called to dispute the bill , and asked why I was charged $140 for a 15 minute session. I was told his documentation reflected he completed the entire session. They sent my bill to collections because I refused to pay it. I thought this was a great provider, until my experience with Robert.

I rarely write reviews for places, but I feel like I need to share my experience. I was told to visit Ascension Hillside Center for my concerns with undiagnosed adult ADHD. They started off with a phone appointment with Robert Bates, who was a calm, friendly guy that I really enjoyed talking with. He (along with my doctor) agreed that I had ADHD and needed me to speak with someone else for an official diagnosis.Everything just went downhill from there. For an official diagnosis I had to attend an in-person visit with Tina. At first the appointment went okay, but she was way too focused on anxiety and depression since I circled fairly high scores on a chart regarding my feelings, stress, etc. However, my concern was purely with ADHD, and I tried to express it by explaining that I was just frequently upset and shameful about constantly struggling with everyday tasks as an adult. She misconstrued my grief as me just having severe anxiety and depression. She then had already made up her mind that this was the primary concern. She DID agree that I did in fact have ADHD, but she spent two and a half hours just focusing on Depression and Anxiety and wouldn't spend a moment on the issue at hand. She also expressed at the beginning of the visit that she meets every ADHD patient with skepticism, which made me immediately uncomfortable and gave me the impression I was an adversary and shouldn't be trusted. She also, on principle, absolutely refuses to prescribe actual ADHD medication because she claims too many people often just lie to get Adderall. Which, to me, is flawed thinking. The medications exist for a reason, and you shouldn't punish people that struggle just because others abuse it.She said she's not a "pusher" and won't prescribe stimulants, but she didn't waste any time pushing antidepressants on me for the off-chance that it MIGHT relieve my ADHD symptoms (which after two weeks, no improvements). If anything, the antidepressants just made me feel worse. And because she took over two hours focusing on purely depression and anxiety issues, she never even opened the ADHD book and gave me an official diagnosis. She said that she just "knew" that I had it.I was trying towards the end to get more answers about how antidepressants would actually help my situation, and I mentioned that I don't want it messing up my appetite - since I over-eat and have a bad relationship with food (something I mentioned twice, told the Therapist, told my doctor, and wrote on the paperwork, which she ignored). She became upset that I "waited this long to drop this on her" and she then proceeded to tell me that she felt "deceived?" As if I intentionally waited until the end of a slow and drawn out session to tell her I have eating problems just to mess with her... Seriously?I spent a decent part of that session talking about how people would gaslight me as a child, mistaking my inattentiveness as malice. So she's going to immediately do the same thing?I ended that session feeling awful, like I wasn't worthy of help and that therapy was pointless. It is incredibly unprofessional for a supposed mental health oriented caregiver to get angry at their patients. I left that session more damaged than when I arrived. I'm a grown man and she had me in tears while I tried to explain that I wasn't trying to be deceitful and a liar - but rather the subject just hadn't come up organically and I didn't think to mention it. I have cancelled all future appointments and have already started seeking help elsewhere.

I was told they don't take patients of my age! OMG. I'd never heard ANYTHING like this in my life. I felt like I was born in the 1800s. My birth year is only 1963. I'm still.in owe about these people. I think the psychiatrist needs a psychiatrist!!!!

I've been coming here since I was about 14, and I'm 23 now. The therapists and staff have been nothing but kind, accommodating, and helpful the entire time. Nearly a decade of excellent service, and my mental health has improved drastically with the treatments they provide.
