I attended genesis ministries and completed their program as a young 19 year old man. It has taken me some time in my struggle to fully comprehend what genesis actually did to my psyche. The sequestering of young vulnerable men from their family and friends, pumping them nonstop with Christian rhetoric and having weekly gram sessions meant to shame men for any little negative thing they do under the guise to build them back up again is cultish and wrong. This is not a program. Of the 12 men in my program that completed with me 8 of them are dead now from overdose or other drug related incidents. I relapsed a mere 2 months after I was asked to leave genesis when I stayed on as staff because I smoked a few cigarettes with friends I made at my other workplace. This program is a cash grab, Eli and his wife have done very well for themselves taking people s money under the guise of Christian recovery but it s all a horse and pony show. Don t buy into their lies and seek out a different program. I have now been sober 10 years, run my own business with a beautiful wife and 2 boys. None of this is owed to genesis ministries but instead myself drastically life changes and self improvement. God can t just fix you you have to fix yourself. Don t send your loved ones here I beg you. Seek out alternative care that s more affordable and has proven track record of being effective. I wish I d never endured a year of my life at this facility being brainwashed.
