This place sucks. Came here for detox from opiates and I waited in the admissions room for 3 hours in precipitated withdrawal, and I was made to feel as if I just had to deal with it after I requested the woman working in the lobby could call the nurses and remind them I had to be seen. My room was covered in mold and mold in the drawers, room looked like it hadn't even been cleaned, there was crumbs and pill particles all over the floor and mold in the AC unit. Showers are disgusting. You can t request an extra pillow or extra anything which is dumb considering you can feel the mattress springs in your back. And foremost there was absolutely NO routine/schedule for us.No small group, no physical exercise, no NA meetings, can t smoke when you want, can t get fresh air when you need, people stealing shit out of rooms, food sucks ass and the cafeteria staff treat you like you re bothering them. Although there s schedules posted everywhere, not one staff member follows through with it, you do absolutely nothing all day. I sat and watched the same movie for 2 days straight because someone stole the remote. And that was it. I did nothing else.

Unprofessional phone interaction with the Peer Recovery Specialist seeking client services. Why hang up on someone you reached out to for support because you didn't hear what you wanted to hear??? Lol. I wouldn't dare want someone supporting me or a loved one who conducts themselves in this manner. Sound like they still need recovery for themselves because the coping skills need work.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients who are exiting detox or intensive inpatient treatment often enroll in outpatient rehab programs to ensure a robust continuity of care. Outpatient programs allow clients to remain in or return to their homes and workplaces while continuing to receive treatment, which typically includes addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, at an outpatient facility.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Level of care is dependent on admission assessment and referral source. Clients must be at least 18 years of age, drug and alcohol free (detox can be administered in-house), and meet Pennsylvania Client Placement Criteria (PCPC).
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients who are leaving inpatient rehab often choose to transition into an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to receive high-level support as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Intensive outpatient rehab also benefits those at risk of relapse. Clients typically participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly, with modalities ranging from psychotherapy to addiction and recovery education. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) and complementary care, such as nutrition counseling, and acupuncture.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term intensive rehab option designed to provide treatment during the day and you're able to return home at night. PHP treatment offers structured programming, including individual and group therapy, typically meeting 3-5 days a week for 6-8 hours per day. PHP duration averages around 90 days, with some programs offering amenities like transportation and meals.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Once a person has become addicted to a substance, drug rehab in Maryland is often necessary to overcome that addiction. These programs provide the tools individuals need to manage the physical, mental, and emotional issues involved and begin a successful recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Maryland emphasizes your current life rather than what has happened in the past. Your therapist will help you develop methods to deal with current and future challenges so you can cope in healthy ways that don't involve substances.

During dialectical behavior therapy sessions, you'll review the challenges you faced the previous week and the feelings you experienced during those times. You and your therapist will engage in problem solving, discussing how you can handle those situations in the future for a better outcome. This involves keeping a diary throughout the week to track your emotions.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Four key principles guide motivational interviewing. These are empathy, self efficacy, rolling with resistance, and developing discrepancy. These techniques allow the client to examine their motivations for change, identify discrepancies in their current situation and future goals, and feel empowered to make changes to reach their goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Significant family members are welcome to participate in the Family Program. A family orientation session is scheduled shortly after admission. Any family member wishing to have visitation with the resident is required to attend the Family Program which meets every week.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

One of the absolute worst programs you could be in. It was the second worst one I ever experienced. Gaudenzia as a whole is a mess. Every single person I knew that went through their whole program all ended up back on the streets. The staff were absolutely horrible at the location I was at years ago. I ll never forget how awful the staff and program was. And then working with the state on these release programs for addiction offenders is a joke. All about money.

The worst place never recommend to anyone. I'm actually going to report this place for how poorly they treat the handicapped. Other clients are made to clean everything including someone's feces. The medical staff is ridiculous one even offered his number to me while he was giving me medication, something that other girls said was common.

Response from the owner9 months ago

We take these issues very seriously and would like to better understand your experience. Please email us at gline@gaudenzia.org so we can look into this further.

I was referred to Gaudenzia.(2018) It was my first time going to a drug rehab(and last). Worst experience ever!! Staff are terribly rude!!. They treat you as if you're in a prison and they're guards. The staff are so rude, disrespectful and UNPROFESSIONAL. I couldn't believe they even made the clients responsible for incoming clients going through withdrawal. That meant, cleaning up after them when they got sick, helping them shower etc. I thought this can't be legal. Anyway. After spending just one week there. I checked myself out. I didn't get the help that I came for. It was a waste of time. I wouldn't recommend ANYONE to go there.

I went to there women s long term. I learned about myself, my copping skills needed to be improved. I took there suggestions and set goals. We had groups and mediation and planned my next step. The staff there are so welcoming and supportive. Gardenzia will always have my back now. And I m a recovering alcoholic addict. We do recover. Thank you, Gardenzia.

Horrible. A friend of mine was here for just over a week and the only upside is that they accepted his insurance, at first. Other than that, not much good to say. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful, I suppose, but most were rude and disrespectful. My friend suffered an adverse health event (unrelated to his stay there, it just happened to be caught while he was there) and while he was in the hospital, many of his belongings still at this facility were stolen: expensive first edition books, cigarettes, money, shoes, clothing, and other personal items. Then, when he returned from the hospital, he found what was left of his belongings sitting by the main entrance. They said they could no longer accommodate him because of newly prescribed medications and diet restrictions?! Seriously?! They also did not return the medication which he arrived with, which is needed daily for a chronic health condition! It's obvious they just take advantage of desperate people in need of real help.
