About Gateway Rehab – Neil Kennedy Recovery Center

Gateway Rehab - Neil Kennedy Recovery Center is the largest and most trusted addiction recovery network in western Pennsylvania. Gateway Rehab - Neil Kennedy Recovery Center offers treatment for alcohol and drug problems for teens, adults of all ages and their families. Gateway

Gateway Rehab believes that addiction is a treatable BIO-PSYCHO-SOCIAL-SPIRITUAL disease and effective treatment addresses all four of these facets through a long-term continuum of care. However, they realize that no single approach to recovery is always successful or best for each person; therefore, they offer individualized and multiple treatment options and plans involving evidenced-based practices to foster improved results for their patients.

Beginning with screening, diagnosis and assessment, then active treatment and continuing engagement in recovery-support activities as part of a long-term chronic care plan, there is a gradual realization and acceptance by the individual that recovery is a life-long process that demands ongoing commitment to achieve complete abstinence from all drugs.
Ultimately, for all patients, they provide structured guidance toward significant behavior changes, self-acceptance, the tools for personal growth, and a beginning experience in achieving health in mind, body and spirit.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Their intensive inpatient program focuses on early recovery and self-awareness skills to not only overcome drug and alcohol dependency but to give patients a new sense of direction and purpose. Gateway Rehab offers residential inpatient drug and alcohol treatment for both male and female patients.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Substance use disorder is a family disease. When someone has a problem with substance use, it affects everyone in the family. At Gateway Rehab, they encourage the family to be part of their loved one’s addiction treatment and recovery process. Programming for family and loved ones will encourage them to discuss the impact that addiction has on their life and on others associated with their loved one. They also assist with finding support groups such as Al-anon and Nar-anon where you will learn to take care of themselves and be a vital part of the recovery process. Recovery for the patient is enhanced greatly by a healthy family.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Rational Behavior Therapy

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

I think that if you truly want rehab, Neil Kennedy is the place for you. In my opinion, they were the best thing that could've happened to me. The counselors I had were wonderful and now that I am sober and I can look back a few years and be proud of what I have achieved, I ... Read More

If I could give zero stars I would !! BIGGEST part is that medical staff. Nurse Kaye is amazing and nurse Kim. The head nurse Carol is a piece of work!!!! The "doctor" here has been there for a long time. Also piece of work! The head nurse I said I had concerns and she said they were not valid. Its sad .AWESOME counselors like Miss. Nancy and Matt. But SSSSOOO overworked! Go elsewhere! Akron Oh. Detox St. Thomas hospital. Summit Co. Recovery Center. /// Break in the post. I heard that they shut down. There is a reason for that. If you're serious the only way to go is NEW DESTINY TREATMENT CENTER is the only way to go! Get sober now! But 9 month program.

I was in treatment there twice. The place is ran like a military operation. The two hour morning group was horrible. No coping skills were offered or taught. When one person did something wrong, everyone was punished. A few of the staff were A ok, but others didn't know what the hell they were doing. I believe that's why there was such a turnover in clients. It's all about the money. I'm glad the place closed. It served no purpose to the recovery community.0 stars in my book.

Trash facility. Asbestos in the exposed ceiling in the main building, very very little in the way of actual programming or activities. Spent most of the day milling around while people told war stories to each other. A couple hours here and there for actual things to do. Excuse for this was boredom is part of recovery. Therapist Josh D was downright hostile and encouraged clients to lash out at each other. He also liked to try to bait clients into political arguments with him and express his misogynistic viewpoints. Hated every second I was in that run-down trash heap, but couldn t seek treatment elsewhere, as I was not there voluntarily. And they loved reminding me of that. Hope it gets shut down or bought by an owner who actually cares about people who are going through some of the darkest times of their lives. To bookend this review: TRASH FACILITY. Go elsewhere if you have the option.

If I could give zero stars I would. I have a family member get treatment here, they got COVID while there. The dryer has been broken for nearly a month. The rehabs solution was to give drying racks instead of fixing the dryer. The main building is falling apart, holes in the ceiling, water leaks everywhere. Don't send your family here, they aren't taking care of the people or the building. They aren't following FDA guidelines, that's why nearly 10 people got COVID at once.

Staff is rude and doesn t even attempt to explain their policies. Food is awful, they change prescriptions without doctor s authorization, and outside communication policies are archaic. Rooms have holes in walls. This place is run down and it seems like none of the staff care. Terrible environment to attempt recovery in. Do not send your loved ones here.

Detox is not a vacation. Neil Kennedy detox is inside a hospital. Not everyone seeking recovery is a smoker, but there is no smoking. And no TVs in your bedroom. So if your not sleeping the whole time, if at all, you can stare at the wall or count ceiling tiles. Resting in my room, taking my meds and chillin in bed is my idea of recovering. I'm usually not the type to mingle with anybody in detox because clearly we're all not at our best when we make it here. Most places in the Trumbull county, Mahoning county area have TVs in every room, where you can rest, take your meds, not be bothered.
