Levels of Care
Outpatient
Outpatient treatment consists of individualized treatment planning which includes the client in deciding the course of their treatment. Outpatient services also include assessments and referrals to community-based resources, relapse prevention planning, and the practicing of recovery skills without disrupting daily routines and is offered for men and women at both their Mountville, PA and Lititz, PA location. General Outpatient services are a combination of individual and group sessions, focusing on processing topics and experiences that are likely to arise in recovery.
Inpatient
The Gate House residential programs are licensed, community-based treatment facilities designed to offer extended time in treatment to individuals who have completed a primary detoxification/rehabilitation stay. They strive to address the bio-psychosocial effects of addiction, and help men and women re-enter the community as productive members of society. The average length of stay is three to six months, and in that time residents can expect to work with the treatment team to address barriers to recovery, while practicing life skills and connecting with local 12-step groups. All counseling and treatment groups are facilitated by professional and credentialed members of the treatment team. Within a safe, supportive, home-like environment, residents are able to focus on and resolve their individual core issues and factors contributing to addiction and relapse.
Sober Living Homes
Research has shown that the longer a newly recovering person remains engaged in treatment and in a supportive, structured, recovery-oriented environment, the better their chances at long-term abstinence. As a result, The Gate House has helped to develop, and manages, gender-separate recovery residences in Lancaster County. Residents may stay for up to one year, while working toward independent living. Residents participate in weekly house meetings and perform household chores as part of a community living environment, and learn to navigate the challenges of early recovery with the help of live-in peer support.
12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
Aftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Comprehensive discharge planning includes relapse prevention and continuing care. Post-treatment support includes transitional housing, weekly aftercare group, and an active alumni association.
Intensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient services provide the structure, education, and support necessary in early recovery, while remaining in one’s home or transitioning to a new geographic area after treatment. Their experienced counselors will walk clients through the journey of recovery using evidenced-based practices and client-responsive groups. Up to 10 hours of weekly treatment, including family involvement on a weekly basis as appropriate. Structured sessions that emphasize a clean and sober lifestyle, and how to make recovery a priority.

Treatment
Alcoholism
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug Addiction
Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.
Dual Diagnosis
Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Opioid Addiction
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance Abuse
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
Clinical Services
Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.
Family Therapy
Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Addiction is a disease that places significant stress on the entire family. The Family Component at the Gate House was developed to build a support system for family and friends who have loved ones recovering from addiction.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Life Skills
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. Life skills education classes including: budgeting, parenting, interpersonal communications, nutritional meal planning and preparation, health and wellness, healthy relationships, self-esteem workshops, and conflict resolution.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.
Nutrition Therapy
Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
