About Hattiesburg VA Clinic

G.V. Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center - Hattiesburg CBOC is a Veterans Affair healthcare clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They provide primary care as well as behavioral health services. If you are struggling with an emotional or mental challenge such as OCD, depression, anxiety, trauma or bipolar disorder, the VA can help.

The Jackson VA healthcare system serves over 5,600 female veterans. They offer many specialized programs and care for women veterans. They have in recent years expanded their services to include maternity care coordination, reproductive health services and breast cancer screens.

They also run a women veterans call center. This toll free number is available for phone or chat support. This helpline helps you navigate the services you need as well as how to apply for benefits or care.
Even if you don’t qualify for VA health benefits, you may still be able to receive treatment for various issues such as PTSD and military sexual trauma.

According to the survey the VA does every six months, only a little over half of clients say they get an appointment when they need it for urgent care. But the percentage is very high for routine care. They also have a very active Facebook page where they post updates and community events.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program approach recovery as a life-long process. Drug rehab aftercare encompasses myriad services designed to promote clients' continued sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Clients generally partner with their case managers and recovery team to define their recovery needs and goals and to identify and access the services they need to promote them. These often include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

The staff of this place seemed very competent, they really care about you, I was impressed as a small clinic with few people and limited resources is able to provide a service.

I have been trying to get my meds for 4 days now. Every time I call my nurse is busy. I give them my number to call me back but they never do. So apparently I need to go in person.

I initially gave this clinic a bad review. I was sick and couldn't get seen. However, once I got through the initial screening (this appointment takes some time). I found them to be extremely competent. And they care. They are a small clinic with few people and limited resources. But, they are VERY thorough. Be patient, they are under the control of VAMC Jackson. We all know how bad Jackson VA is (except our useless congressmen and senators, I suppose). My advice is as follows:1. Get a clinic appointment. Try to get Dr. Bowling. She will get to the bottom of any medical problem. This lady is tenacious when it comes to her vets!2.Sign up for myhealthevet. Once you make an account, upgrade to the premium account. It will say you have to send in a form for the premium account. Just call the 800 number and have the service person upgrade it for you. They're very helpful. This will allow you to order health records, check prescriptions, communicate with you're health team. In other words bypass the VA bureaucracy.Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps.August 2023 update. They've run off ALL their doctors! Go to VAMC Biloxi instead.

My Brother is in a wheelchair.. We was at the V.A. Today... We had to lift him to be weighed and lift him for them to look at his back... They stand there and watch.. Where are the men? I was very unhappy!! He wears depends.. no place to clean him up... he can't stand alone ...some serious changes need to be done... Whomever the one responsible needs to rethink some things!!!
