About First Step Recovery

First Step Recovery, located in Warren, Ohio is an addiction treatment center that provides drug rehab services to individuals who are struggling to overcome their addictions to drugs and alcohol as well as those battling co-occurring mental health conditions. Their levels of care include inpatient detox, residential and intensive outpatient services to fit the needs of the individual.

Their inpatient detox services offer patients a safe way to recover while being monitored by medical professionals in the event that any withdrawal symptoms surface. Residential treatment uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat individuals as well as motivational interviewing, individual therapy, group counseling and recreational therapy. Their holistic approach to therapy will also help patients feel more connected to life and release “feel good” hormones.

Intensive outpatient care allows the individual to follow through with treatment while returning home after a day of sessions. This modality of care is ideal for those with less severe forms of addiction who still want to connect to the right community and resources for reaching and maintaining sobriety. Treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy and 12 Step recovery groups.

First Step Recovery may take Medicare, Medicaid and private commercial insurances, like Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, United Healthcare and others. Reach out to your provider to check coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient treatment allows patients to discuss and work through obstacles they face during their transition forward into a new way of life. Following treatment, it is common for patients to be confronted with familiar people and surroundings that trigger drug or alcohol abuse. As patients experience both adversity and happiness, it is important they receive professional support and apply recovery tools in order to maintain a healthy, substance-free life.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs are designed to ensure clients receive continuing care while in the maintenance phase of recovery. Some clients may be in outpatient treatment, which is generally considered to be an element of drug rehab aftercare. The specific services provided in these programs are often determined by the client's case manager and care team in consultation with the client. Common services include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Their detox process is done with respect in a home-like, upscale environment with the best medical detox available. The removal of mood-altering substances from the body is the first step in substance dependence treatment. During this period of non-use, the patient’s body begins to naturally release the toxic drugs from its system under the supervision of their medical staff. Counselors are available at this time to help the patient with any underlying emotional issues that may surface.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy supports recovery from drug and alcohol addiction by providing you with enjoyable activities that improve your physical and mental health. When you engage in sports, creative arts, and nature excursions, it helps reduce your cravings and stress levels while building a supportive community of peers who can help promote your long term sobriety.

I just dropped my husband off and a lady came out to take him in her office for paperwork and says he ll be back out soon hun so I m waiting and then the dark haired lady behind the receptionist desk with the dark eyebrows says did you say goodbye yet? And proceeds to laugh? I said no the other lady told me he d be back out shortly, the dark haired girl walks around the desk, goes into the office my husband is in and says to him you wanna say goodbye to your wife so she can get out of here? in a very rude way and as we re hugging and crying she s standing there watching us and starts laughing again? This is such a sensitive moment when dropping off a loved one to treatment and she showed the complete opposite of compassion, I was so upset when I left and felt extremely rushed out of there. Not to mention not one person explained anything to me, I was just handed a business card. All I know is my husband better be taken care of especially after reading all of the horrible reviews of clients being heavily medicated.

This facility bent over backwards to make my journey as painless as possible. I think people tend to become entitled and forget that the addict in them landed them in the position they are in. This isn t the Hamptons or anything close. First step recovery provides a safe and comfortable place to get serious about sobriety. The food was good (and I eat well at home). The living conditions were great. The staff was friendly and caring. For anyone that sees it any different you should try to walk a day in there shoes. This is a hard gig and First Step Recovery has been so helpful that I would highly recommend them to loved ones and friends. Forever grateful!!!Jamie M
