About Lightshare Behavioral Wellness & Recovery

Lightshare Behavioral Wellness & Recovery, formerly First Step of Sarasota, has been a vital substance abuse addiction treatment center for over 50 years in Sarasota, Florida. This rehab serves children, adolescents, adults, seniors, and families affected by minor or major drug and alcohol abuse and co-occurring mental illnesses. The center offers seven residential rehab services, but they all fall under an inpatient treatment program umbrella.

Lightshare Behavioral Wellness & Recovery offers a variety of specialized addiction treatment programs.

Choices is a court ordered residential treatment program for adult men struggling with substance abuse. This program provides two months of intensive therapeutic components, followed by a four month employment re-entry phase that professionals help with.

In conjunction with the Department of Corrections, the Crossroads program is a long term recovery solution for women requiring 24/7 supervision. In this program, women undergo individual and group therapy while learning how to address anger issues and learn communication and relationship skills.

The Mothers & Infants residential program at the North Washington center is a long term treatment program for pregnant women who are substance abusers. This program teaches parenting while helping mothers enter drug or alcohol recovery.

Pathways is an intensive 28 day recovery program that offers insights into 12 Step programs while providing psychoeducational resources and group and individual therapy.

Clients with co-occurring mental health illnesses and drug and alcohol addictions can enroll in the Pathways addiction recovery program. This program serves forensic clients and those under statute 916. It offers ongoing group, family, and individual counseling, psychoeducational curricula, and life skills training.

Royal Palms is a sober or halfway house program offered to clients who are actively pursuing vocational or educational training and employment or who have already obtained them. This residential service helps individuals with 12 Step programs while providing four hours of therapy sessions weekly.

Transitions is a halfway house program for clients who have obtained or are seeking employment or educational or vocational training. This program also offers 10 hours of therapeutic services and helps with 12 Step programs to help individuals transition to independent living and sobriety.

First Step of Sarasota offers self pay and financing options. Please check with your insurance provider for coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs encompass multiple levels of care to facilitate clients' progress through their recovery journey. Clients who are stepping down from inpatient treatment may require intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, which involves more frequent and substantive therapeutic interventions than does standard outpatient care. Outpatient centers typically provide extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Medication assisted treatment programs (MAT) and recovery-focused life skills training are also common in outpatient care.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The first step of the recovery process involves the removal of all drugs and alcohol from your system while under 24/7 medical supervision. Known as a medically assisted detox, you are closely monitored by medical staff who can provide medications, if necessary, to help alleviate any potential withdrawal symptoms. Medical detox is usually followed by a period of inpatient addiction treatment.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Not a country club, not a hospital, not a vacation rental, a real recovery for real addicts in the real world. They help you begin and allow access to programs (12 steps) that give you the ability to keep it your entire life. Recovering is still more important than the bottom line.Their goal is for the residents to permanently recover and the focus is on living life in the real world with your recovery. The 12 step recovery programs of this area are always welcome inside the gates to help show the residents how they live life and use the tools obtained while being a resident. If you truly want to live a clean and sober life there is no other place in the area I would suggest. If you just need a vacation this is not for you.

I've been calling for the past week to get information for a friend who is there no one answer the phone and no one calls back. I wanted to drop off something for that friend and the lady who answered the intercom was incredibly rude and unprofessional and wouldn't give any information about when to drop off items. I'm highly disappointed

It says outpatient services, I called and they said that they don't have outpatient and then couldn't even refer me to somewhere that could help me. I have worked at an inpatient treatment center and we had a huge list of other resources that we could use to help the caller find what they needed.

The First Step Crisis unit 1 treats their patients with no care or respect what s so ever. I spoke with Justin and he was extremely rude, and it took me calling 3 times to get a hold of them.

No people skills. Called to inquire about some alcohol abuse counseling. Not even a "hello, how are you?" It's a "give me your full name, social security number and who's your insurance with? Wow
