About First Light Recovery

First Light Recovery, located in San Clemente, California, is a residential mental health and alcohol and drug rehab center that treats adults with co-occurring disorders. Their programs help those with a wide variety of concerns, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, mental illness, and addiction.

The residential program provides 24/7 supervision in a safe and therapeutic environment where individuals have access to staff around the clock. Individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, trauma treatment, and evidence-based interventions are provided. Each person is given a personalized treatment program and is monitored for improvement. Clients are encouraged to take an active role in their recovery. Discharge planning is provided before leaving the facility.

Upon completion of the residential program, clients often engage in a step-down process of outpatient treatment. Full Light Recovery can assist clients in exploring what outpatient program would be best for them. Once outpatient is completed, clients may move into maintenance treatment, which is also known as aftercare.

Full Light Recovery accepts most insurance plans, including Amerigroup, Anthem, Cigna, ComPsych, Magellan, Kaiser, Amerigroup, HCSC, Tricare, and more. Out-of-network benefits may vary, so it’s important to verify coverage with the provider before starting treatment.

I have had the honor of working at First Light Recovery for over a year, and can say honestly, this is the best treatment facility in South Orange County. My fellow staff members here all provide the best support to the Clients as well as our peers. Everyone here works as a team for the same goal, to help each person who walks through our door with equal parts care and respect. We receive an immense amount of support from our management team with Client care whether that be how to help in Crisis intervention, or just learning a general understanding of how to best help our Clients in their healing journey. When I am asked why I work here my answer stays the same, there is no better feeling than watching someone laugh or smile for the first time in a long time. I can proudly say we strive to provide the best care possible here at First Light Recovery and I am so grateful to be able to work here.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

During group therapy, men and women learn to express their emotions openly in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and reduces feelings of social isolation that are often associated with addiction.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy is a structured approach used by therapists to help you heal from a past traumatic event. Your therapist works with you to identify the traumatic memory and process the information so you experience emotional healing and a sense of safety and stability.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

Family therapy offers a platform for members to have an open dialogue about the challenges that addiction has placed on the family unit. Through guided sessions, therapists can help families develop healthy communication skills and address unresolved issues. By working together toward a common goal, they help to support their loved one's sobriety.

The goal of creative arts therapy in California is to encourage growth and transformation. It can be used in individual and group settings with both children and adults. Options include movement, music, and painting.

The use of experiential therapy can be helpful for the treatment of behavioral disorders, including drug and alcohol addiction. This method teaches you how to release negative emotions and cope with pain from the past. Activities such as art, music, and animal care are used to facilitate this process.

I was at First Light Recovery about 7 months ago for a 1 month stay. They have a great program going. It was just the step I needed after getting out of the hospital and doing a month of inpatient addiction treatment. After my addiction treatment I was still struggling with mental health symptoms and was referred to First Light Recovery by the people in the addiction recovery program. I am very grateful they chose First Light. Everyone who worked here was professional and kind. Also the therapist, providers, and the people who ran the classes were knowledgeable and caring. It has been close to a year of health both mentally and physically for me and I know First Light helped make this happen.

No real treatment. I was mislead over the phone regarding the structure and help I would be receiving. Upon arrival I was told I had to wait 5 days until my first therapy appointment! Completely unacceptable as this is a place to receive treatment. It s truly just a halfway house with very filthy living conditions. After arrival and having my bags searched and items confiscated I didn t get to see what they took or have a list and the next day I woke up and within 1 hour of me going to group or meeting the therapist my personal belongings were searched in my room and something else confiscated without my knowledge and was never told about it which feels very violating. The therapist only meets with patients 2 times a week because the therapist takes every single patient that comes into the house and program for the second house location which is unheard of. In years of treatments I have had 1 therapist assigned to 2 patients MAXIMUM! There s no way to give proper care individually when you have 2 hours worth of therapy a week. When I had to meet the therapist she was over an hour late and I never received the appointment with the psychiatrist that I was told and promised. Good concept but poorly executed. I did not like being questioned as to why I was in treatment if I did previous treatments. I was even told a diagnosis upon meeting the therapist which is insane when she didn t know anything but what was on my intake chart. One step up from jail/ psych ward. Save your time and money

Grateful would be an understatement, I was lucky enought to call and talk to Jake the administrator who held my hand throught the treatement process from the beginning to end then still stayed in touch after I left. Shea the therapist was a godsend she was able to quickly identity my needs and start my healing journey. The house was ok but the location was close to be able to walk to almost anything you needed and made the stay enjoyable. If you are serious about improving your mental health I highly recommend First Light to anyone struggling.

Had a rough time at the start. I came from out of state, and the beginning was one I had to adjust to (as it can be hard being so far from family) The techs are very kind and responsive, the therapist is very smart and knows their stuff. Ive been in therapy for over a decade and they are one of the best out there! A special thanks to Mike, Jake and Shea for lightening up my days and brightening my spirit! Thank you first light for giving me a safe space to fall apart and the tools to help rebuild myself. My journey isnt over but this is a beautiful start to a new beginning! I would recommend this place to anyone in general!

Going here was the best decision I ve ever made for myself. I would recommend First Light Recovery for anyone dealing with any mental health issue that you may need help with. I had no idea what to expect when I first checked in but I was certainly anxious about it. My anxiety quickly dissipated as the staff was more than helpful and able to ease my worries. The staff at First Light is wonderful. They are there to help and they all do what they can to make sure you get all the therapy you can. The Director Jen made it so that all I had to do was worry about my therapy process and forget about everything else. She handled the Insurance company and all the things that my work needed. The house itself was nice and the area is great for such a facility. The therapist there are very sharp and very smart. They care a tremendous amount about their clients and put together a plan that will help you find a balance in life again. I learned a tremendous amount in the 30 days I was at First Light. I gained perspective and it helped me feel like a normal person again. It has been decades since I have felt this good for this long of a period. The impact First Light has had on me and my family is immeasurable. I will forever be grateful to First Light and the entire staff at the house. They have put me on a different path for my life. One that I always deserved. One that I will always wanted for me and my family. Thank you First Light.
