About First Call Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Recovery

If you or a loved one are facing struggles with substance use then there are resources and services you can turn to throughout Kansas City, Missouri. This resourceful community is home to the First Call Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Recovery agency.

This is an agency that connects families and individuals who have been impacted by substance use to supportive resources that will help them on their journey to sobriety, health and wellness. They have a crisis line that you can call during all hours of the day along with their outpatient clinic where you can come in to receive care.

They take a community focused and solution oriented approach to recovery and you’ll find a continuum of services offered here. If you need more robust care like detox or residential treatment then there is a Resource Guide that can help you learn more about and get connected to different treatment centers throughout the region.

In addition to prevention and outreach services, you’ll be supported through harm reduction services as well as recovery and reentry services. These supports help individuals from all walks of life develop skills for success. Their recovery and reentry program especially focuses on individuals who have been incarcerated and are reintegrating back into society.

One of the biggest aspects of this organization that I appreciate is the dedicated and compassionate care they offer to families and loved ones of those who are in recovery.

Families are often left unsure of how to help their loved ones or be a pillar of support. This agency has a variety of family services including educational workshops and other supports that will teach families how to be the safety net their loved one needs.

This organization works miracles in lives. I was assessed by Preston Washington and he was "spot on." He recommended I attend out patient treatment and A.A. meetings. My life was out of control and I only went there because the court ordered me (I had a DUI). Now, a year later, what was the most horrible experience in my life actually set me on a new path. I love the same life I once hated. I am much happier at work and at home. My kids and wife have a Dad and a husband back from the edge of hell.

Levels of Care

telehealth iconTelehealth
Telehealth refers to services that are delivered virtually -- for example, through a live one-on-one video conference with a counselor -- instead of in person. Telemedicine rehab is ideal for people who want to stay in touch with their mental health provider but have difficulty getting to appointments.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehab enables clients to continue to work, attend school, or reside at home while undergoing treatment, including addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Evening, night, and weekend sessions are available at many facilities to ensure continuous access to care on the client's schedule. Many centers also offer ancillary services, such as career coaching and peer mentoring, to promote clients' sustained recovery and community integration. Higher-level outpatient treatment, including intensive outpatient (IOP) care, is also widely available.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer continuing care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are designed to evolve over time. Outpatient treatment is generally categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive services after being discharged from formal care. These services are customized to clients' unique recovery goals, but typically include medical, mental health, and social services. Clients' case manager and recovery team play a key role in developing the client's care plan.

They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
