I would like to share my experience we had at the location 40 East Adams street in Jacksonville. Me and my husband recieved couples counseling about 3 to 4 yrs ago with David Fortner. We did get some valuable and helpful advice for a couple months but felt as if his only solution was to separate so we discontinued counseling for a while. About 3 wks ago we decided to try again same location but different counselor. This time we got Robert Bengals. First and only session was even worse than the first time around, weve got 10years together and we are not looking to separate. I do not have anything bad to say about either one of these gentleman they just weren't for us. So we tried to see the only counselor left and that was Latricia Durham and boy were we in for a big surprise. But first I wanna say we were happy about haven a women this time around and really thought we would get some different results but we were so so wrong. First go into her office its not a warm welcoming at all. In fact shes filling out paperwork and I told her We were not new clients just changed counselors and I could give her a little run down on that and she immediately shut me down with, "not right now". She wanted us to fill out more paper work first. I was a little shocked but figured mabe this was just her way of doing things so my husband spoke up about our experience there so far and that we would like to get to know her or as he puts it, "interview" her so we dont pour out our issues to have to re start over again with a new counselor. Mrs. Durham rudely interrupted my husband stating thats not how this is going to work. She apparently did not like the fact we wanted to get to know her first before we proceed with our situation. She then stated that she does her sessions seperately and if she feels it necessary she will combine us together. I was tryen to elaborate on that issue but she kept interrupting me and my husband both everytime we tried to talk with her. As my husband is conversating with her she states it will be done her way, my husband was so upset he said we were leaving. I absolutely cannot believe this person is suppose to be a professional counselor and she taks to her clients that way. It took 3 weeks to get an appointment with her i do not see how in the world she can be of help to anyone with the type of attitude she has. It was the worse experience we have ever had. But then it gets worse, as we are leaving my husband is waiting for me in the lobby and Mrs. Durham goes up to Sherry the receptionist and begins to discuss our session. She proceeds to tell her we were not comming up in there telling her how things are going to go. And I was just lost for words. First of all, we never made any demands we simply was tryen to fill her in on our past experiences and what we could do to make this one a successful one. Which includes her feedback as well but we never got that opportunity as Mrs Durham was eager to prove she was the one in control and it was going to be done her way. Im absolutely appalled that this lady thats suppose to be a professional counselor violated our confindenality as well as our rights and proceeded to discuss our session openly in the lobby with Ms. Sherry. Even though we did get some valuable sessions from David and would like to possibly try him again we will NEVER step foot back in that office again and nor will any of our family members. I am putting our expierence out there because i would not want another couple seeking help to ever deal with what we delt with today. if i didnt have to select a star to post this review there wouldnt be a star

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
