About Willowbrooke at Tanner – Cartersvi

Willowbrooke at Tanner – Cartersville specializes in behavioral health care services for clients of all ages in Cartersville, Georgia. At this facility, you can participate in outpatient treatment, including programs to treat mental health issues and chemical dependency. They accept self payment, private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. A financial assistance program is also available.

Before you start treatment, your first step will be to complete a free mental health or substance abuse evaluation. Your care team will use this time to understand more about your condition and determine the level of care you need. Then, they’ll work with you to create an individualized treatment and recovery plan.

While they offer inpatient care at other locations, this facility is dedicated to outpatient counseling only. They conduct individual, family, and group sessions to help you talk through your struggles, hear helpful advice, and learn valuable life skills for recovery. I like that they allow your loved ones to come because they understand how important they will be in your long term recovery.

If you need a higher level of care than your outpatient counselor can provide, they’ll connect you to other offices within their network.

While scheduling and communication can sometimes be an issue here, most clients speak favorably about their time in the program. They explain that the staff members have been there for them during some of their hardest times and that the team is compassionate and caring.

Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Willowbrooke at Tanner offers a complete range of outpatient services. Their professional staff of dedicated clinicians has a wide variety of expertise and experience working with people who need behavioral health assistance.

If an assessment or screening finds severe problems, a brief stay in the hospital may be advised. Willowbrooke at Tanner’s inpatient facility offers a safe, comfortable place for healing to begin. A hospital stay helps patients change their behavior and acquire skills to cope with everyday stresses, enabling them to move to a less-intensive setting to continue treatment.

house-medical iconAftercare

Aftercare, which is sometimes referred to as continuing care or relapse prevention, is a type of structured care meant to help you continue with the progress you've made after completing an addiction treatment program. Most of the time, you'll continue receiving support after a treatment program by partnering with their case managers and staff to identify and access the resources you need to remain sober.

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

prescription-bottle-pill iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Creative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Willowbrooke in my personal opinion was a negative experience, I felt like it was a complete waste of money and most important time. The therapy sessions were completely ineffective, it felt like they just wanted to keep me in the program so that I could keep spending money ... Read More

Initially I felt ok here. After my last visit I was scheduled to come back in 2 months with instructions to call her when I was ready for a refill. I called several times. June 20th, 25th and 29th. I received a call back from an on call person who told me I needed to make an appointment before I could get a refill. This isn't what she and I had agreed on. I have an appointment.I finally gave up because it was clear the office was closed for the 4th of July.I've had troubles during this time. I feel abandoned and that I should perhaps reconsider my choice of facilities. However the choices in Cartersville are limited.

Called to make an appointment 2 weeks ago for my daughter and was told that assessments were done over the phone and the earliest was today 5/6/2022 between 2 and 4. Received a call today at 2:56 to check in and see if we still planned to attend the assessment. I advised them yes we did, and was then told we would receive a call before 4pm. I work in social services and I know how things can not always go as planned but at 4:30, with still no call, I decided to call and was placed on hold without ever speaking to anyone. I waited 25 minutes on hold as caller number 2 in the queue and decided to hang up and call back since it was getting close to 5. The call immediately went to a voicemail where I left a message advising them we had not received a call and needed this appointment badly. I pretty much knew at that point we would not be hearing from them today. Obviously I made this appointment because my daughter is in need of mental health services and now it seems she will have to wait even longer. Thankfully she is not in crisis but what if this had happened to someone who was.

I had my first appointment today. I could not be more pleased with how much the staff cares about my mental health. From the receptionist, to the nurse, to the nurse practitioner, they were all fantastic, pleasant, informative and really seemed to want to see me get the help I need to live a normal life. I am looking forward to my mental health healing journey with this practice.

Edit: They have since called and assessed me, the assessor was kind and listened to me but the whole process was very confusing. If I were worse off I don t think i would have been able to handle it.Called to find a therapist on Monday, made an appt for a counselor on Friday at one, confirmed that appt on Thursday. Missed ONE phone call at 12:50 on Friday to prepare me for my 1pm appt and called that number back eight minutes later, than two minutes after that, then about two more times right after that ( I was looking forward to this appt all week because I could finally get some help) and no one picked up and it did not direct me to voicemail. So after that around 1:15 maybe I called the original number, was told an assessor would call me around 1:30, not to worry. 1:45 I call back after receiving no phone call and was told I have to reschedule, the receptionist at one pm should have called me three times (he or she did not, i received one phone call and tried the number they left over five times) and since I didn t answer the only thing they could do was put me in the next available- while I was working. I get it if the company is busy and assessors are short staffed (which was not explained to me I just assumed since they couldn t make it to my 1pm phone call) but don t blame me for missing two phone calls I didn t even receive when I m a person calling for help. I do not recommend this company AT ALL .

Very disappointed in the overall service. We specifically took my daughter to this facility with the promise of help with family behavioral issues. While we were charge for multiple appointments and counseling sessions. We only had one actual family session and this was only after we called for weeks to request one. There was very little communication and I can sadly say that the staff knowingly tried to put parents against one of Nother rather than bringing a family together for the success of the child. The facility also scheduled an authorized appointments with other providers and transferred medical information after specifically being told not to. This was a violation of HIPPA As well as a violation of our trust and confidence. I would not recommend this facility to anyone that I know. As far as an overall change on my child, I would say that we have seen a change for the worse.
