I regret not looking at the reviews before we took our child here. It was recommended by a public school. I recommend going through your child's pediatrician or PCP for a referral to a real place with real therapists/LCSWs.I don't trust any regional whatever of this program. I'm going to my kid's actual doctor for a legitimate referral to a legitimate therapist.Edit: Trust me, you will be receiving a call with a laundry list

I was a patient here for almost seven years. In my time there, they have given me nothing but runaround. First, they put me on a medication that I did not understand fully, and then the person who was prescribing me that medication, completely stopped following through with my appointments and canceling on me last minute. My therapist was great in session most of the time, but towards the end, everyone in the center was just rude. I was beyond sick for one of my telehealth appointments to the point where I was unable to even speak. Due to that, I had my partner call for me as I was sitting next to them, in order to cancel my appointment in hopes to get it rescheduled. Instead of receiving a call back to get it rescheduled, I received a letter in the mail saying that I no call no showed for my appointment and therefore they were going to permanently discharge me. As we were diving in to important information in terms of my mental health, they left me to figure it out on my own in a not healthy mindset.I expected more from them since I was a patient there for so long, but within the past couple of years, it has just spiraled. When choosing a place for counseling, I do not recommend going here at all.Do NOT waists your time.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I've been a client here for a long time and I couldn't be happier with my experience here. Every member of staff has always been kind, courteous, and compassionate in every interaction that I've had with them. If you're looking for therapy, I'd highly recommend Family & Children's Counseling Services.

If I could give no stars I would. First experience here and it isn't a good one. A referral was sent in for my daughter for counseling and after doing her intake (which she didn't need to be there for) I ended up having CPS show up because of the idiot at the office that did my daughter's intake. I know that it was this office because it was the first time that my fiance or I had given anyone his new phone number (his doctor doesn't even have this number yet).So with that being said I would take your time and money somewhere else. Not a good look and now my daughter has even more anxiety because she thinks that needing counseling in the first place is what caused the CPS report. It is not her fault that she needs to have this service nor should she feel that in some way this report is her fault.

Do not recommend this place for children!! Pulled my child to go elsewhere after they wanted to over medicate even with medication that was making symptoms worse, therapy is inconsistent appointments always cancelled by them. Didn't even do proper evaluations for mental health as I found a new place and they stated my child should have never been on the meds they did and the way they did evaluations wasn't proper. Unprofessional and your child will not get the proper care needed. Good luck if you choose them for services.

This place is horrible. They diagnosed me in 10 minutes on my first appointment. Then had me go through months of hell, on medications that I didn t even need to be on. For 4+ months straight these medicines gave me intense anxiety & made me want to off myself. The last medication I was on I was having horrible side effects and needed to stop the medication and wasn t sure if I could quit cold turkey or if I had to taper off. I called my nurse (Amy) and she didn t call me back so I figured after the weekend she would. She didn t. I called again. No call back. At that point I had only a few pills left and had no idea if I could quit cold turkey or not so I ended up calling a pharmacist and leaving the office completely after a nurse couldn t even call a patient struggling with not only mental health issues, but side effects to medication I shouldn t of even been on. It was horrible. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Also when I first started going there I had one therapy session and my therapist left. It was MONTHS before they got me with a new therapist and when I had my first session with her it was the most awkward counseling session in my life. She was so quiet, barely had anything to say. Pretty much would be like Oh yeah, that sucks . I had 2 more sessions scheduled with her and refused to attend either of them. They make switching your therapist a pain. Between the terrible nurses and therapists this place is a joke. Do not come here if you are struggling very bad.

The lovely lady who handled my intake appointment was very wonderful, but I literally never got to talk to my therapist at all. I was cancelled on and they left one message that I never received to say so, and I had to reschedule another three weeks out. When my next appointment rolled around, I once again received no call, and when I called the office, I was transferred to the after-hours office instead, because they were closed. Even if my therapist was working from home, I had no way of contacting them. I have lost faith in their services and will not be contacting them again, which is annoying, because the intake appointment took a very long time.EDIT: I did eventually get a therapist, but when my therapist left the practice, it was up to me to leave multiple messages on the director's voicemail until I finally got a call back. I still have not heard from my new therapist, but I've added 1 extra star, since when I explained what happened in the past, everyone was very apologetic and helpful.

Was referred here by work EAP. About a month ago, had a phone appointment with a woman working out of Cortland who, after twenty minutes, pawned me off to another counselor that I would have to wait a month to speak to. After that month wait, I received a call six minutes before the appointed time stating that the counselor was unable to partake in the scheduled session. After stating my concern, the receptionist forwarded me to a supervisor's voicemail wherein I left a message and am currently waiting a response.Luckily, I am an adult and can find ways to cope and survive. I'd like to point out, however, the name of the facility to which we're considering. Family and Children's Society. Children. If this facility were to be a child's only source for help then I can't imagine the sense of fear, hopelessness and general disregard that a little one and their family could feel at the other end of a phone the just won't ring.

I am so dissatisfied and disappointed in this place! My initial intake appointment was with a wonderful lady and so helpful. I was referred to a counselor that was to take place over the phone, they said they called to reschedule but I never received the message on my cell! After that I finally got another appointment but I unfortunately missed the call and called them the next day to apologize profusely because I felt terrible. Now I feel like I m being punished. Since then I ve asked for a supervisor to call me so I can get another appointment but after 3 calls no one will call me back. I m so disgusted to say the least, I really just needed to talk to someone but after this experience I ll handle it on my own!
