About Fairwinds Treatment Center

Located in Clearwater, Florida, Fairwinds Treatment Center is a comprehensive addiction treatment and behavioral health facility. They provide inpatient and outpatient treatment. You choose from a partial hospitalization program, an intensive outpatient program, and medical detox. They also have treatment for eating disorders and mental health disorders.

The cottage-style setting of the residential program will offer you a comfortable and structured sober environment. With 24-hour care, a dual diagnosis treatment model that includes mental health care is used for optimal success.

The partial hospitalization program options are offered during the day and evenings to accommodate your work, school, and home schedules. There is an IOP for eating disorders and one for addiction treatment. If you choose one of these programs, youā€™ll engage in individual, group, and family therapy, with three days of treatment sessions per week.

The addiction IOP will help you focus on understanding the brain chemistry of addiction, relapse prevention skills, and tools for managing cravings. Youā€™ll learn about and engage in the 12 steps and receive management support for post-acute withdrawal syndrome. Groups are limited to eight people at a time. IOP sessions are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Some former clients mentioned they enjoyed the safe and structured atmosphere and appreciated the professional staff. Others mentioned they thought the medical care was not sufficient.

This place was a disaster for my daughter. They admitted my 12 year old daughter with anorexia, only to drop her at the local hospital emergency room only 2 days later. According to the staff there, she was tampering with her feeding tube. They knew this was an issue with her and they assured me she would have 24 hour supervision. Contrary to the instructions given by the hospital, they were using a feeding machine as supposed to a syringe. My daughter lost an additional 5 pounds while in their care for 2 days. They quickly packed her up and sent her to a hospital that is now 3 hours away from us. For a facility that charges $1,500 a day for patients, they should be better equipped to deal with anorexic patients and not drop them at the first sign of a challenge. How were they expecting to help our daughter with her illness? Did they think it would be easy? Don t waste your time with this place unless you want your patient to lose more weight or be dropped at the first sign of trouble.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

daily iconDaily

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on oneā€™s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. At Fairwinds a doctor will determine the length of a patientā€™s detox program and base it on the types of substances abused, withdrawal symptoms and their current state of health. The same guidelines apply if he or she is in recovery for alcohol, drug addiction or both. The severity and types of withdraw symptoms depend on both the patient and the type of substance the patient is addicted to. Because of the many variables, our detox plans are customized for each patient.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but donā€™t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

The Fairwinds philosophy of treatment stresses the importance of family support and psychological rehabilitation so that every client can achieve self-realization, a sense of personal responsibility and a renewed self-worth. Their treatment facilityā€™s program stresses growth and development in the areas of family, social, academic, vocational and spiritual life. Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patientā€™s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health. A registered dietician conducts individual sessions to assist clients in developing menu plans. After each menu planning session, the registered dietician reviews all of the meals, beverages, condiments and snacks for caloric adequacy and makes any necessary additions. Clients earn individual time with the registered dietician as they improve and work through the levels during treatment. Weekly nutrition education classes rotate on a bi-monthly basis.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This is a pretty solid facility. The staff of great and the center is clean- the community, whether you are there for addiction or E.D., is good too. I do have a few concerns or observations that I think should be made known before you consider coming. (EATING DISORDER)Your intake admin may or may not mention this to you upon you arriving: The facility uses payphones- $1 per 2 minute call. Washing machine and Dryer combined is $1.25. You'll be paying 1400 a day only to be charged again inside walls to make phone calls and do laundry. There are groups for both adolescents and adults, but both age ranges will have groups together on certain days, so if you're not a fan of being around adolescents as young as 12, good luck. It was a very common compliant that they will not consider changing any time soon. To get any outings (Walgreens/Restaurant), you will have to earn it by eating 100% for the day.Every patient is given a weekly contract of what they need to accomplish and what activities you can do. In addition, after your very first family zoom session, you will then be able to get visitations. Some nurses in the nursing station, when handing out medication, probably did not wear gloves. Popping a pill from a card into a medicine cup is one thing, but having them touch your pills with their bare fingers was very unsanitary. I believe it was an agency nurse who sneezed into her hand, and popped a pill into her hand to place it into my medicine cup.I'm addition to them not wearing gloves, they will sometimes mess up your medication. They might forget some of the medicine you need to take, they might give you more than you need. I personally need to take my medroxy for the first 10 days of every month. I made sure to ask if it was in my cup, but they somehow managed to not give me most of my pills and I end up missing a much needed period- I have PCOS and I need medicine to have a menstrual cycle. You're seen by a doctor every week at least once. Dr. B so far is the most complained against doctor that works there. It was a complaint that he offers unusual advice, gives aways pills, and there is a max of 30 secs you'll be in the office to see him. He has a scribe/assistant that he talks to on the phone, but he never disclosed that information to major of the patients there. The kitchen is very good. If you are in E.D recovery, they will cook anything the way you want it as long as it is possible substitute or meal to accomplish. I do have my complaints however. You do have to be very specific to the kitchen for what you want, or it will not be prepared correctly. Even if you are, there is still a chance they just will not even attempt. I have asked for foods to be steamed, only to receive them raw or frozen. I asked for potato wedges in which was a menu item for that day, but they gave me a slice of baked potato even though they had potato wedges in the buffet line.I think the biggest pro though with this facility is the fact that there's a stray cat that wonders outside to say hi to the patients. Your only way of staying sane here is by hanging out with the stray cat that we all love and care for.

Fairwinds saved my life. I've been sober for a year and a half and going strong because of the help I got there. I can honestly say if you want it, listen to everything being said to you there and do the work on yourself you will love your life. The nurses and therapist helped me in so many ways. I was comfortable and felt safe while I was there.

The staff is so helpful, loving, and encouraging. There s ALOT of rules in place and it s frustrating sometimes, but it s there for a reason and I slowly realized that. There s people with all sorts of different problems that calls for different rules. You have no idea what people are going through next to you so be mindful of what your complaining about and to who! There s not too much to do on the weekends so come with crossword puzzles, books, water coloring, an approved MP3 player (they will send you the link ahead prior to coming to get the correct one) I was in E.D I enjoyed the variety of options when it came to dining. Kendal was my therapist and she was wonderful. She understood me and was my first therapist I ve ever talked to.The only things that bothered me is the fact that they I don t believe they clean the day room couches and I feel like they could deep clean once or twice a month. The odors are not the best. The itineraries were not updated like if the pool is closed in winter. Why is the pool listed on the itinerary during winter .. And the agency staff members dispensing meds .

After my son's 2nd admission and with almost 70 pounds, they recommended Fairwind to me but I never wanted to take it because I read what other people said about it. After that my son was admitted 4 more times and with my broken heart I decided to take it and today my son came out After 2 months in that clinic and he has reached 130 pounds, he returned to being that happy child that he was and although there is still a long way to go, that clinic was the first step to get my son out of certain death, I cannot be more grateful for everything. the staff for their attention to him, the doctors, nurses and above all my eternal gratitude to the therapist Jenifer R who was with him in this long process always supporting us and helping us in everything, my most eternal gratitude to them and if I had to treat I would take my son or another family member without thinking twice, many thanks to all the staff.....

I had a great experience at Fairwinds! The groups were helpful, I was able to see the doctor everyday Monday-Friday, and I had 2 sessions per week with my therapist plus one weekly family therapy session. The staff is caring and attentive. Just like with any treatment program though, YOU will get what YOU put into it. If you are not willing to do the work, you will not magically change. There has to be willingness and openmindedness. I am so grateful to this facility!

Truly such an unorganized, messy facility. Schedules are never aligned and nobody ever knows what's going on, patients never receive a full 2 sessions with their therapist a week, therapists offices were so messy.Adolescents aren't allowed to contact their parents if they don't finish 100% of their meal plan and the staff calls it an "incentive program"... To me that seems inhumane. That is not the right way to encourage recovery, especially on a child in a city far from home.During my stay there were med mix-ups. The nurses are never there and they have Agency substitute for them. Agency would mix up patients meds, completely give meds to the wrong people at wrong times, and give PRN meds on schedule. agency was also taking selfies on their phone in a patients room ??.. So dangerous and unprofessional.

Entrapment. I willingly chose to be admitted. Fairwinds took my keys, and searched my luggage. Day 1 I was placed in the last room down the hall quite a ways from the Nursing office. I was not monitored. My heart went into arrhythmia and they were not aware until I walked down the hall to Nursing and reported my symptoms. That is dangerous. Finally, I was transferred by ambulance to a local ICU. I spent several days in ICU. My Fairwinds therapist was MIA related to her own health issues. I came down with bronchitis, reported it and was not treated. After my 28 days, my insurance would not pay for extended treatment. Fairwinds was pressuring me to self-pay and of course, that was beyond my ability. I sought discharge and was ignored. Fairwinds held my keys hostage until the 11th hour when my taxi was awaiting to take me to the airport for home. I should have called law enforcement.. Beware people!!
