About M Health Fairview Clinic – Uptown

The M Health Fairview Clinic - Uptown is conveniently located in a neighborhood clinic within Lakeside Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The center provides comprehensive care for the entire family including mental health services and medication therapy management. Mental health and addiction care can include partial hospitalization, day treatment and traditional outpatient services.

Your customized treatment plan is developed after a complete evaluation and assessment. Highly credentialed mental health professionals will analyze your substance use disorder, the severity of your addiction and the duration of the disorder. They assess for any underlying mental health conditions that must receive integrated care to improve successful treatment. Providers include therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, and psychologists who work alongside nurses, chaplains, clinical supervisors and cultural liaisons.

They focus on providing culturally competent and inclusive evidence-based therapies to address your needs. This could include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) designed to identify, address, and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that lead to addiction. Family involvement is a central component of your treatment since substance use disorders and mental health conditions affect more than just the individual.

Your customized treatment program seeks to heal your family’s wounds and help you develop a supportive environment that promotes your continued sobriety and Recovery journey. Family members may participate in the assessment process and regularly attend family therapy sessions. This helps you to gain a better understanding of the family unit and cope with the effects of disturbances caused by mental health conditions and substance use disorders. They work with most major insurance companies and will verify your insurance coverage before beginning treatment.

They screw up every prescription they write and it takes 2+ hours to contact them on the phone to fix. Every time. Travel Clinic is especially bad.

I had only one test, and their EKG machine was not working properly so they sent me to another clinic but they said they couldn t do it for me and I had to go back to Uptown when the machine is working fine. This supposedly short visit took me nearly 3 hours without any results and I have to go back again.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My experience with my doctor Shamsia was not the best. I found out some really hard news and she did nothing to make me feel better or help me calm down. I did not feel well cared for from my doctor. I would leave a 1 star for her. BUT my nurse MICHAEL J I would leave a million gold stars. He was amazing. He helped me calm down in every way possible. He treated me as his friend. He gave me his undivided attention and relieved my mind and calmed me down after i recieved very hard news. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND his job title. This man deserves a raise and a promotion. He is God sent. I wish I could've taken him home in my pocket to help me through every anxiety attack and hard moments in my life. This man is special and truly cares for his patients. Believe me when I say you are in good hands when you are around him.

Didn't take my insurance but said they did. Then got a $800 bill later for a 10minute remote doctor's appointment and bloodwork. They refuse to bring the bill down.

I have been seeing Dr. Salim for a couple of years now, and she has always been so attentive and kind to me. The first appointment I had with her, I knew I wanted her to be my PCP. Office staff has also always been nice. Wait times are normal for most doctors offices I've been to, so no complaints there.

Scheduled for 1 vaccination and they were 1 hr 30 min late. Wouldn t recommend this place for travel vaccinations unless you have the entire day to sit in this office.

It's unfortunate to read the negative reviews on here because I've found Dr. Shamsi to be one of the BEST physicians in the field! Truly the best I've ever had! Genuine, compassionate, knowledgeable, and pleasant to say the least! She LISTENS and her approach makes me feel valued as her patient. I trust her as a medical practitioner and healer. That is invaluable to me, especially as a patient of color. Thank you, Dr. Shamsi! God bless you and your staff for all of your efforts!

I would give zero stars if I could. The lab tech today didn't bother to look up the five tests my doctor ordered, and only tested for one thing that was not even ordered. So I had blood taken for no reason, and I need to go in again. I won't be going to this lab.

I ve been seeing Dr Salim for many years. She is very attentive, understanding, and really feels like she listens and cares about your health and well being. Any health concerns are always taken seriously. Best and favorite Doctor I have ever seen. If you are able to establish her as your primary you will be very happy!
