About El Paso Psychiatric Center

El Paso Psychiatric Center helps teens and adults who have mental illnesses. They can help kids as young as five years old. Their services include inpatient and outpatient programs. You’ll find them out in El Paso, Texas.

Their main approach is to get their clients a case management team. These folks are made up of social workers, nurses and experts. They’ll have counseling options so you’ll recover with a buddy and also by yourself. That way, you won’t recover alone, but you’ll also reflect on your progress. Your team might also give you meds and manage your meds if they’re needed.

What if your condition is more serious? Well, if that’s the case, you’ll be placed in their residential care program. There’s only 21 beds and there’s a long wait list to actually be assigned a spot. In 2023 expansion plans were put into place to eventually increase the number of beds to 71. Once you’re there, you’ll get more supervision to boost your health. You can learn better ways of coping to manage your condition.

Some past clients have had mixed experiences with them. If you’re not sure if this is the best site for you it’s always a good idea to look them up online and read others’ feedback. That way you can see if it’s the best fit for your needs.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Together with an experienced trauma therapist, you work on healing emotional wounds from traumatic experiences within a trauma therapy environment. Your therapist will help you process the experience of the trauma, which promotes emotional healing and improves your overall mental health.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

This place needs to be either completely shut down or every employee fired and rehire people who will follow the Hippocratic oath. How anyone could refer to it as a 'hospital' is beyond me and completely laughable. Seems that all they really care about is keeping people th ... Read More

I tried to get a workplace accommodation, my experience with Texas Tech psychiatry was disappointing and disheartening. Texas Tech Psychiatry refused to issue a FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) and denied me, a disabled person, a second opinion, speaks volumes about the lack of compassion and professionalism in their approach to patient care.Despite presenting thorough documentation and medical history outlining the need for FMLA accommodations, Texas Tech dismissed my request without due consideration, leaving me to be terminated from employment due to my own serious disabilities. In addition to their dismissive attitude, their refusal to engage in open dialogue and explore alternative solutions reflects a fundamental lack of commitment to the Hippocratic Oath and the principles of medical ethics. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of their medical history or perceived level of disability. By denying me the basic rights afforded to individuals seeking medical assistance, Texas Tech failed to uphold the core of their profession and caused me harm rather than healing. In conclusion, my experience with Texas Tech psychiatry has been nothing short of disheartening. Their refusal to issue FMLA and denial of a second opinion shows a troubling trend of indifference and neglect within the mental health care system. As a former patient, I ask that they reevaluate their approach to patient care and prioritize compassion and empathy in their practice. I cannot recommend their services to those in need of genuine support and understanding.

The "psychiatrist" I saw spent the entire apointment googling things on his phone and reading me articles. He seemed to contradict himself the entire time and switch between me staying on my meds and getting off them completely. Their "gradual" method to get me off my medications was to cut my dose in half for a week and then stop cold turkey.I called my primary care provider after this appt. to switch to a new psychiatrist and they informed me that not only did they did not have a record of the doctor I saw being at this location but he is also NOT A PSYCHIATRIST.. he works in internal medicine.

This hospital needs to be investigated by the state. Medical power of attorney and HIPPA waivers from patient for family communication are ignored. Medical history of patient is ignored. Attempts to give a list of current medications and history of patient ARE IGNORED. How are some of these doctors be allowed to practice??? Nurses and staff are helpful, but doctors need to be accountable to SOMEONE. Doctors only want to deal with incapacitated, medically vulnerable patients that can t recall conversations. DOCTORS here avoid taking to family at all costs. How can our tax dollars go to funding this????? Where is the medical director? Who is managing this place???

If you want mistreatment of any kind go seek help from them. The worst place to ever go if you are suffering from any type of mental illness. My word of advice is NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE. DON'T TAKE ANY FAMILY MEMBER HERE THEY'LL PROBABLY VIOLATE EVERY RIGHT OF THEIRS AND YOURS AND MISTREAT TREAT YOU AND THE PATIENT IN EVERY SINGLE WAY POSSIBLE.
