About Eastern New Mexico Medical Center – Sunrise Mental Health Center

The Sunrise Mental Health Center at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center provides mental health services for adults in Roswell, New Mexico. They can help stabilize clients who are experiencing a crisis and provide outpatient treatment for clients overcoming addictions and co-occurring disorders, like depression or anxiety. Payment is easy because they accept lots of options, including self payment, private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. They also have a financial assistance program.

At this facility, they’re equipped to handle a full spectrum of issues, including severe mood swings and cognitive conditions, such as dementia. They’ll provide detailed consultations to get to the root of each crisis and recommend the appropriate level of care. Most clients go through some form of counseling, either by themselves or with their family members. Their treatment plan can also include medication management, addiction education, and occupational therapy. All of these services help clients work through their condition, better understand their behavior, and lay the groundwork for recovery.

While some clients say that their time here was good and the nurses were kind, several have shared that staff member communication needs improvement at this facility.

I was admitted to this mental hospital a while back. I was dreading coming at first because of all the negative reviews and coupled with the misconceptions of psych wards. To be fair, it wasn't as bad as I thought. During my stay, I really enjoyed it a lot, the nurses were so kind and we were fed 3 times a day with snacks in between, we were monitored well and I got some great memories from here, really wish I could've stayed here if I'm being honest but, overall I loved the staff and the care put towards getting me back out and well!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab programs may receive daily, biweekly, or weekly treatment while continuing to live at home. This enables clients to integrate their recovery care plan into their routine work and family schedule. Addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) are the most common services offered at outpatient centers, but many also provide holistic therapies, such as meditation and massage, and ancillary services, such as career coaching.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) provide robust support for clients who choose to remain in their own homes or who are reintegrating into their community following inpatient care. IOP treatment generally consists of a combination of individual, group, and family counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and evidence-based holistic therapies. Many intensive outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients in alcohol and/or opioid recovery. Clients in IOP typically receive nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs promote clients' long-term recovery by providing a robust continuum of care aligned with clients' evolving needs. Because addiction is a chronic disease prone to relapse, rehab aftercare services are highly client-focused and uniquely responsive to clients' changing medical, mental health, and social circumstances. Case managers and care teams collaborate with clients, assess their goals and needs, and provide access to recovery-focused resources, such as peer coaching, employment assistance, and relapse prevention services.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women

These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My experience at this place has been absolutely horrible. I had been ignored by several nurses while I was having a panic attack, and even had been rudely told to be quiet or I would disturb the other patients . Do not ever consider admitting yourself or a loved one here. It is a complete joke.

I was here back in 2019 I think. The staff treated me kindly and the food was good. I have schizophrenia and major depressive disorder and I will probably wind up here again because I have not been feeling too good lately. There were no Nurse Ratchets of any kind. The nurses were very kind to me.

Staff is awful, the room in the Er is right next to the desk and you can hear every nurse making fun of patients, being loud and laughing at everything, I took my wife because she was feeling isolated and suicidal so they stuck her in a room isolate her and give differing answers from everyone. After calling the head manager in charge after getting kicked out for asking questions and they stated we got out of hand. The head manager told us she already had the orders from the doctor which is what we asked ab in the first place before it became a scene of removing me for asking questions not a single one of them wanted to even look at their computers and then answer me, they answered without checking on anything. There was no bedding no pillow the room was easily 80 degrees there was no airflow, nothing this place is pathetic and does not help anyone with a mental issue all they are gonna do is give you some random medication and even if it don t work and your still having issues they are just gonna stick a needle in you and put u to sleep so they don t have to deal with this.

Only nursing assistant that helped was Angel, cool tall guy with tatts, everyone else was horrible. Staff talks about the mentally ill patients when they check up on you during sleep hours (witness it myself) . Unfortunately the good rehabs are in Arizona

I have been in a position where I was needing help, so I know how places like Sunrise SHOULD operate. Let me tell you that this is the worst place I have ever been. They are all young and dumb literally. My brother was there 2 days and they gave him NO MEDICATION for his mental state. They let him out and he attacked 2 elderly ladies, one almost to death. Because he was hearing voices which he told SUNRISE during his stay AND THEY DID NOTHING!!!! I m so disappointed and honestly I m hoping I can sue.

My sister was taken there during a mental health crisis. She was released after 5 days. The method of Release was a one way ticket to Albuquerque with instructions to find a Homeless Shelter. The bus would arrive in Albuquerque the next day at 4:22 AM. They tricked her into believing she would be in a treatment center in Albuquerque rather than a homeless shelter.April the Social Worker on her case was the worst. Attempts to negotiate an extra day at their facility for family to travel to pick her up fell upon deaf ears and being hung up on when they said we were rude . This was for questioning the way they were releasing her. The staff we spoke to was April, Peter and the charge nurse on duty. The 1.5 rating they receive is generous. I can see now why the facility attracts 1.5 employees. They accused the family of being difficult and rude for asking questions and not being agreeable in how they were releasing her. They were more concerned with the Insurance than they were with her mental health. I advised them that I would call the Governor s office to report them. That didn t phase them at all. I will be calling the Governors office as well as our Representatives to lodge a complaint.
