About Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services

Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services in Culver City, California, is a facility that has a substance use program for adolescents. If an individual meets the requirements for their program, they receive prevention and treatment services.

The organization has mental health services specifically designed to help transitioning age youth. These are individuals between 16 and 25. Along with helping clients overcome addiction, they help them go on a positive path toward adulthood. This involves helping clients gain employment, education and housing. Didi Hirsch also helps individuals develop personal stability and have positive social relationships.

Another great thing about this facility is that therapists are trained in multiple evidence based practices and treatment styles. They work to help clients find strategies to address their thoughts, behaviors and feelings without substances. Didi Hirsch’s prevention services provide teens and young adults with mentoring. They receive education about substance use and consultation and screening to determine the right level of care. No insurance is required and they are also able to refer transitioning age youth to a higher level of care if needed.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Couples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I have had terrible experiences in the past with county facilities, but I have to say from the moment I stepped foot into this didi hirsch location, I was greeted by empathetic ears, and once they heard my story, they vowed to help me. I don t struggle with addiction, but I have had true mental health issues in the past and my therapist at Didi hirsch, Colleen, has been amazing at addressing them. The program they have me in is to avoid any future hospitalizations, which is a service I wish I had known about many years ago.I will say the only thing I don t like about this location is the Soviet looking building it conducts business in, it is very outdated but that s no reflection of the hard working therapists there. I m sure if they could make it nicer they would. In terms of my experience as a client there 10/10, would recommend. Hi

Should Didi Hirsch therapists be recommending marijuana for anxiety to severely mentally ill patients? They need to leave their political opinions and the fact they smoke it themselves out of their treatment plans.

These people are like an LA County Jail Sheriff gang. "Ur not paying $180 an hour for a bad therapist, the county is" All protecting each other when another staff gets caught doin something they aint supposed to. Lazy freeloaders staffs go to glendale or Inglewood didi hirsch, not here. Defund culver city didi. Bad people, bad workers, as a whole gang.

I ve read a lot of reviews for Didi Hirsch. The main critique I ve seen is that they leave you on your own. I can t dispute that so much. You get about twenty-eight days here before you have to leave. They strongly encourage you and provide a fairly large number of information and resources to help you figure out the next step to figure out the next step, but there should be more time. That said, I got like thirty-six(?) days. A therapist at Didi advocated for me to stay for a bit longer before she was forced to let me go. The staff has almost no leeway as to when they must release you. As much as I wanted to leave, I should ve stayed longer. Much of the staff advocated for me, but ultimately, the insurance company (healthnet) cut me off. It s almost understandable because there are so few institutions like this (and so few people to staff these very difficult positions). I ended up developing some very close relationships with the staff and patients. There are several very kind people here. The rest are somewhat jaded who only need to get to know you a little bit to soften up. They all end up with a relationship with you eventually (whether it s positive or negative depends on your attitude and mostly the understanding of the staffer. I would encourage anyone who ends up here to find the staffer or psych who can empathize with you.I was shocked to find an institution that employed people who were not jaded. I ve been to Las Encinas and a few other in-patient programs that weren t nearly as flexible or kind. Hirsch (excelsior house in Inglewood) does pressure you to get out of bed (but makes exceptions for your medication side effects). If you are considering this place, I would encourage you to buy a few packs of cigarettes, be ready to meet with a small group, make a little bit of silly art, and meet some people who are definitely worth meeting.
