About Detroit East Community Mental Health Center – Mack Avenue

The Team Wellness Center’s Team East Clinic provides primary and mental health services for adults, children, and teens in Detroit, Michigan. Here, you’ll find a range of outpatient treatments designed to support your mental and physical health. They accept self pay and private insurance, and offer a sliding fee scale based on your income.

If you’re struggling with substance abuse, they’ll start by performing a quick assessment. This helps your providers understand the extent of your addiction and any other health issues you might have. From there, they’ll create a recovery focused treatment plan that will help you meet your goals, develop independence, and reclaim your quality of life. I like that this center specializes in care coordination so all of your healthcare needs are taken care of in the same network. You’ll go through them to access your preventative services, primary health care, and addiction related treatments.

You can attend individual, group, or family therapy sessions to learn more about addiction, understand your triggers, and develop life skills. They also offer medication assisted treatment using the FDA approved medication Suboxone. When combined with counseling and other behavioral therapies, this substance can help relieve your pain and control your cravings as you recover.

Some of the other services they offer include peer mentorship, psychiatric treatment, career counseling, housing assistance, and related resources. They can also connect you with other local providers who can help you continue your recovery progress.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The doctor they assigned me first said he doesn't prescribe controlled substances because he's afraid to get investigated--because he's not helping people? Then someone said a doctor there gives him opium for heroin addiction so I called and was told I could get a different doctor there that would help me. Then wasted my time again going there just to be told none of the doctors there prescribe controlled substances. Just opium for heroin addiction, apparently, but not a benzo for actual mental health issues. This place should be shut done. It's probably because it's in Detroit they don't prescribe medicine to people. Plenty in Oakland County told me they will give me Ativan for PTSD so I can function in Detroit. Detroit apparently doesn't want to heal its citizens.

My caseworker, therapist, and psychiatrist are good at their job. I always take their recommendations, and have positive outcomes.

True KIDNAPPINGI don't know what to say, this place is my parole officers go to establishment.Because I have a skipped due process medication mandate on a criminal case this place feels that it doesn't matter what type of service I am provided. It will not let me go but yet and still will not provide me quality service and impedes my ability to get services elsewhere even though my insurance can go anywhere. Here's how the scam works. Your thoughts are eavesdropped on and manipulated, (Yes it's a thing) you are sent to the "crisis and stabilization unit" at Team Wellness where you're monitored for days as opposed to a set amount of time yet you lose track of all time and reality with random medications and shots. They then farm you out to the various impatient services hospitals (Stonecrest Harbor oaks Pontiac general Hospital) where you'll stay for either 7 to 10 days or up to 30 days at the end they at these hospitals count on you to give them a good rating on your kidnapping. When you go in you don't sign anything they don't go for treatment plan or anything and when you wake up and realize that you've been kidnapped and you read the little toilet fodder paper saying that your stay there as voluntary because you came there yourself and you ask to leave they tell you you have been "pit and certed" petitioned and certified and they do not want to let you go.It is true slavertude because they put you with others who have mental problems and for your time there if you have any wits about yourself you help figure out what the issues is and there are people there are there for exorbitant amount of time. The most amazing thing is because I'm able to figure out things they just love how myself and my daughter Malaysia Gibson and I just able to do some extraordinary things and so they test medications on us.3 days 3 medication heights in a row and their eyes just get big and round. Tell The projected Dr Head about it does nothing make a big stink on the unit makes Dr Head show up with the other doctors who takes their patience away from you it is an atrocity. This last time I was to have a surgery I was to meet with a lawyer and I was to meet with a new mental health team at another facility yet was directed to the crisis center on Mack and Mount Elliott and was held up a total of nearly 16 days where no one could find me. So if I disappear this is what it is.They are so scandalous that after I ended my treatment at Pontiac general today Wayne county made it to where Pontiac general and Oakland county would not allow me to be placed anywhere but at Team Wellness on Mack & Mt Elliott to sleep on the floor homeless.I WILL experience backlash for this review.

Absolute JOKE !!! My 4 year old son got sent to this place for "support coordination" and he has yet to be supported or have anything coordinated. I've called for WEEKS, looking to get referrals for ABA & OT . They keep sending "emails" yet no one is returning the calls. Tyreisha Sledge is the epitome of LAZY, working from home but isn't really working because she's literally doing nothing. Hopefully a yet another closed chart will prompt them to be more mindful of who they hire.

Went through intake back in October for help that I needed after intake that was it, got a phone number called a few times then directed to another number left several messages no response. Then go letter in mail saying they miss me, they never got back to me so how can they miss me. Now I'm bad shape I was told about this place, they ignored me before why should I ask now. So they can build me up for help then just trash me again.assuming I was the wrong color sad to say but true total waste of 3 hours. They don't care like they want you to believe. All about the money to them, if they don't get a lot of money from helping you, they don't care and forget all about you. I still need hearing aids but they still don't care. Thanks team wellness for nothing.

No review on google above 3 stars should be consider legitimate. Terrible service. Incredible idiotic staff except the physicians and therapists and even some of them are really dumb. Rude group of people all around. They don't care about your problems and will talk about the them with their coworkers and violate HIPAA, and make fun of you. They make it near impossible to get help regardless, and are incredibly lazy.
