About Delta Behavioral Health

Delta Behavioral Health is in Wilmington, North Carolina. They have partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for adults and seniors. If you have any substance abuse issues, they may be able to help you.

Let’s start with their most extensive program. This is partial hospitalization, which consists of 20 hours of therapy each week. The hours are divided into blocks of four hours on Monday through Friday between 9am and 1pm. When you sign up, you’ll have sessions about mindfulness and emotional recovery. There’s also psychiatric care that’s available. These counseling sessions can take place individually or in groups. Your assigned case management team will monitor your medications as well.

Their intensive outpatient program is more flexible. You’ll meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for three hours each day for dialectical behavioral therapy. There are morning, afternoon and evening sessions. This way, you’ll spend more time with your family and community as your recovery strengthens. You’ll also attend offsite groups like AA or NA where you can get peer support. You’ll learn from others and they’ll learn from you.

Delta also has a service for seniors. Their geriatric program consists of group therapy to help you build up a network of peers. You’ll learn how to regulate your emotions and find healthy outlets for depression and anxiety without resorting to depending on drugs.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. Typical outpatient services at Delta are available for adults with mental health concerns and include both therapies with licensed therapists or interns, and psychiatry for medications to help in managing mental health. Available therapies include both individual and couples therapies.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Delta Behavioral Health’s Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) is an intensive day treatment option for adults dually diagnosed with chemical addiction disorders and co-occurring major mental illnesses. The curriculum incorporates chemical addiction treatments, including Twelve Step facilitation and Motivational Interviewing, with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and other cognitive and behavioral health approaches. Individual therapy is also available. SAIOP clients meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 3 hours a day. Clients have the option of attending the morning group from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, the afternoon group from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, or the evening group from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Delta Behavioral Health’s evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is an intensive treatment option for adults with acute mental illness.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer a complete continuum of care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are predicated on the idea that addiction disease is a chronic condition prone to relapse and warranting continuing care. Clients collaborate with their care team and case manager to access the specific rehab aftercare services they need to promote their sustained sobriety. Peer coaching, relapse prevention services, career counseling, and 12 step program induction are common in these programs.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services can provide customized interventions tailored to the needs of the individual and family. An intervention specialist can design and conduct a drug intervention in North Carolina that encourages the individual to enter treatment in a non-coercive manner. The specialist will meet with the family to plan the intervention, then provide expert insights to guide the process and appropriate follow-up care.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Often used as a "step-down" option after you've completed a residential or inpatient program, the partial hospitalization program (PHP) typically involves a minimum of 20 hours of treatment per week for approximately 90 days. Programs offer structured programming that includes relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. Insurance coverage for PHP treatment varies among insurance providers.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

There are many types of drug rehab in North Carolina. To receive treatment for addiction, you can choose from many inpatient and outpatient programs. Often, participants start with detox and work through a full continuum of care that continues with ongoing support for long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Delta also offers Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills groups for adults as a supplement to therapies when recommended to clients. DBT as it is referred to, uses a skills group therapy format to learn and practice healthy and effective management of emotions, even under duress. Other DBT skills include skills to be more effective with others and mindfulness skills to increase awareness.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Group Therapy services offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to adults and geriatrics with mental health and substance-related diagnoses. Group services offered include: Emotion Regulation, Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The reviews about Paige are 100% correct. I was in the office with her as a new patient for less than 5 minutes and walked out. She was rude, unkind, and hostile. As someone who is supposed to be a professional with mental health clients she needs a reality check that talking to people like that who are suffering is not okay. The fact she has been getting reviews like this for over a year and hasn t been removed from the company says a lot about Delta. DO NOT GO HERE. Especially not to Paige. The whole establishment treats you like a drug addict and is very unwelcoming. The contract you have to sign to be treated by Paige was also very restrictive and sketchy. I hope she reads these and considers becoming a better person for herself and her clients.

I have a great team here at Delta!Second tour and I plan to continue my mental and behavioral health growth with them as long as possible. They offer a Free class once a week so you can stay in the flow, even after you "graduate". They have Always been considerate of my needs, supportive of my goals...And they work seamlessly with my Insurance; where there's a will, there's a way!If you're looking for something familiar yet new; that next step after treatment, therapy or group...I Highly recommend Delta Behavioral Health.

I honestly am mind blown by the bad reviews. Especially the ones about Paige Houser. For the first time in my life I feel like I have found someone who is kind, compassionate, empathetic and CARES about my mental health. She actually LISTENS to me and is patient and truly kind. When I went to the hospital for a severe panic attack she even called me immediately the next day (on a Saturday!) and made sure I was ok and got me in asap. Do yourself a favor and don t listen to the bad reviews. This woman saved my life and continues to do so in which I will be FOREVER grateful. This is coming from someone who has major depressive disorder, panic attacks anxiety disorder, PTSD, and ADD. This nurse practitioner and all the staff at Delta want nothing but to help you get and stay well.UPDATE AFTER OVER A YEAR; I went to the hospital because I was suicidal after having gastric bypass. My body changed and I had been telling Paige I needed a med adjustment but she didn t do anything but send me for a 600 dollar genetic test tbat just said I was on the right med not the right dosage. I get to the hospital and it was a literal NIGHTMARE. They doubled mu trintillex though thank god. I get out of the hospital and Paige treats me like I went for detox. Totally stripping me of all my meds because I won t go to a class three hours a day three days a week. I m in school, and work full time and see my therapist once a week. I pay them for help I m not there on some court order jesus. So I get a letter in the mail saying she s taking me off my controlled and everything. Because I was never tested but I was TESTED FOR FOUR MONTHS EVEN MY DAUGHTER WENT TO ONE OF THE APOINTMENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN TESTING ON ME. She sent me to this specialist. She likes to play games and if you re her favorite she will throw any medication at you you want. She is the one that put me on these meds to begin with. Which were needed. My diagnosis from the SPECIALIST TESTING WAS MAINLY ADHD, ANXIETY PANIC DISORDER, MDD, OCD, And PTSD IN THAT ORDER. I can t even get my non controlled filled now. She s not a good practitioner and I wish I had seen the truth sooner.

I see Paige Houser at DBH and I could not have asked for a better provider. She's incredibly understanding and takes care to work with my insurance so I don't get bankrupted into oblivion for seeing to my mental health. So easy to talk to, doesn't speak down to you, very kind. I used to always get bad anxiety before mental health-related appointments because of shallow consideration in the past from providers , but Paige puts you as ease and makes you feel comfortable about being vulnerable. Super lucky I found her, couldn't imagine going somewhere else

I absolutely adore DBH! I have been seeing Paige Houser for years for my medication management, she actively listens, she's personable and professional. I have never had a medical professional that I 100% trusted and knew they would be completely honest with me until Paige, she's so understanding and accommodating. She has helped me out in a pinch and also took the time to find the right medicine to treat my unique set of diagnois ... I am beyond thankful for her! I have been a part of the DBT program and have seen a therapist at Delta for years in the past and I have nothing but the highest respect for everyone at Delta. From Ms Kim at the front desk who is always willing to help to the amazing Mandy who has walked me through insurance paperwork more times then I can count to my personal therapist who has always be there to encourage no judgementally and talk through any crazy situation I've had...and of course can't forget John who has cheered me on as I reached each of my mental health and sobriety goals. Delta is truly a blessing and has been there to support and walk me through some of the hardest times in my life.
