If you want a treatment center slightly above that of jail or state run facilities, cornerstone is for you. If you are an adult prepare to experience “life skills” by living in dirt. If you want sober living, prepare to live in a trap house. Good luck.
About Cornerstone Recovery Center
Cornerstone Recovery Center is a drug and alcohol addiction center located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They provide mental health and substance use disorder treatment through a wide continuum of care that supports both the early and late stages of addiction.
Cornerstone Recovery Center offers partial hospitalization, outpatient programming, medication assisted treatment, and dual diagnosis mental health services.
Partial Hospitalization is a day treatment program that is highly structured yet allows for the flexibility of returning home in the evening. This program requires that there is no immediate danger that would require inpatient hospitalization. It incorporates clinical treatment practices for addiction, such as medications, individual and group therapy, and trauma related counseling. Evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing are incorporated into the treatment process.
Outpatient treatment programming is a more flexible approach to addiction treatment that is a step down from Partial Hospitalization Programs and Intensive Outpatient Programs. This service provides continued support for addiction recovery through individual therapy, group therapy, and educational classes on addiction and recovery. Medications may be managed, and for those in need, trauma support may also be offered. The goal is to continue to move toward a life of recovery and a suitable aftercare treatment plan that allows for reintegration back into society.
At Aspire Health Partners, the Medication Assisted Treatment Program provides medications along with comprehensive medical, psychiatric, and behavioral counseling. FDA approved medications are used to support withdrawal from opioid drugs and to help maintain long-term abstinence. By combining medication with mental health treatment, a greater chance of success is achieved for long term abstinence.
Dual Diagnosis, often referred to as having co-occurring disorders, is when two or more mental health concerns present themselves simultaneously. It is very common for those who struggle with addiction to also have an underlying mental health concern such as anxiety, depression, or a diagnosable psychiatric disorder. Without proper treatment of the mental health issue at hand, getting and staying sober can be difficult. By treating both the substance use disorder and the mental health needs concurrently, a greater chance for long term sobriety is achieved.

Levels of Care
Outpatient
Cornerstone Recovery Center focuses on a step down approach to recovery treatment. Patients usually begin treatment in our Partial Hospitalization Program and then step down to the IOP, or Intensive Outpatient Program. Once the intensive program is completed, the next step down is to the Outpatient Program (OP), which provides more flexibility for going to work or school, spending time with family and loved ones, and getting back to a normal daily routine. Outpatient clients still keep appointments with their therapists, attend meetings and receive support from the Cornerstone staff while returning to, or learning to live, a self-supporting lifestyle. Once a client is ready to move on from the Outpatient Program, we provide an Aftercare Treatment Program and Relapse Prevention services.
Inpatient
The Cornerstone Recovery Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) treats drug and alcohol abuse while simultaneously allowing him or her to live life on life’s terms. The PHP, by way of its structure, will work to closely mirror the day-to-day life that a client will experience once addiction treatment has been completed. Individuals who take part in our PHP will first meet with our Medical Director and Clinical Director to properly determine an individualized addiction treatment program. Once a course of action is agreed upon by everyone involved, the journey toward honest recovery can begin.
Intensive Outpatient
The Cornerstone Recovery Center intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) is available to clients meeting the criteria for admission. Criteria vary from client to client and are contingent upon the individual’s treatment needs. The frequency and intensity of treatment are customized to effectively and efficiently address a client’s treatment requirements, though clients should expect to participate in outpatient rehab three to five times per week for a total of six to eight weeks.
Aftercare Support
12-Step
The 12-Step Recovery program is the most popular and well-known treatment program offered at Cornerstone. The 12-step approach to recovery has been very successful in helping those dealing with addiction to alcohol or drugs. They guide clients through the 12 steps, also known as 12 principles to recovery, in their nurturing and healing environment. A typical day may include individual and group therapy, exercise, holistic activities, and attending 12-step meetings.
Sober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
Intervention Services
If a person with a substance use disorder continually denies their problem or refuses to get treatment, a drug intervention in Florida may be necessary. Intervention services can help mediate the intervention by providing an addiction expert. This professional can de-escalate situations and facilitate a healthier discussion between the individual and their loved ones. Specialists can also help families handle issues they don't know how to navigate on their own.
Partial Hospitalization Program
Often referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive treatment option that allows individuals to return home at night. PHP treatment typically requires a minimum of 20 hours a week for an average of 90 days. Participants attend daily therapeutic sessions, receive medication management, and have access to skilled medical professionals. While costs can vary, most insurance will fully or partially cover a partial hospitalization program.
Medically Assisted Detox
The first step of the recovery process involves the removal of all drugs and alcohol from your system while under 24/7 medical supervision. Known as a medically assisted detox, you are closely monitored by medical staff who can provide medications, if necessary, to help alleviate any potential withdrawal symptoms. Medical detox is usually followed by a period of inpatient addiction treatment.

Treatment
Alcoholism
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug Addiction
Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.
Dual Diagnosis
Cornerstone Recovery Center is one of only a handful of South Florida addiction treatment centers that offer co-occurring services, commonly called dual diagnosis, to treat primary mental health disorders. It is estimated that 8.9 million adults have a dual diagnosis of both a mental health condition and drug or alcohol addiction. Our Co-occurring Services Program Director, Barbara Hernandez, MS, LMHC, and Primary Therapist Sidney Torres, provide integrated treatment in a safe and insulated environment.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse
A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.
Opioid Addiction
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Clinical Services
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
Couples Therapy
Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.
Family Therapy
Addiction is a family disease; alcohol or drug abuse not only affects the person seeking treatment, but relationships with family, friends and loved ones. Cornerstone staff is committed to keeping family members in the loop and understand that part of recovery must include support from family and friends and that often some of those relationships need some mending after the strain of addiction. Family services are included in the program before admission, during treatment, and after treatment as a vital part of recovery. The facility hosts Family Night events on the first and third Fridays of each month so family members can come to group sessions and meet others who are going through very similar situations. Building a support network and knowing that they are not alone through this process is one of the most appreciated factors cited in the success of our Family Night events.
Nutrition Therapy
Substance abuse creates biochemical imbalances in your body and brain. By implementing dietary changes, you can restore that balance. This is the goal of nutrition therapy in Florida. You'll gain an understanding of what nutrients your body needs and learn best self care practices.
Creative Arts Therapy
Types of creative arts therapy in Florida include playing music, writing poetry, journaling, dancing, painting, and sculpting. These expressive activities can help you process emotions and work through challenges with the guidance of a creative arts therapist.
Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
