I left after a week. The group therapists talk to you like you're a child. It's like they forget that they're talking to 20 year olds, 30 year olds and older.I said I didn't want to do a certain exercise and one of the group therapists Jensen kept pushing me and wouldn't take no for an answer and made me extremely uncomfortable. After I said no multiple times, left the room and came back- she asked me AGAIN.They wanted me to make myself hyperventilate infront of the group- and she really had to ask me WHY I didn't wanna do that? I think it's quite clear.Coincidentally two days later they just so happen to do a lesson about how you need to trust and be willing to do certain things or else you can't change. While staring at me. In front of everyone. They make you feel uncomfortable while also babying you and talking to you in those extremely condescending, quiet baby voices. Only good part was the psych, Alexis. I'll miss her.

Accepted Insurance

Compass Health Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients in outpatient rehab receive a variety of services based on their unique and evolving needs. Typical outpatient treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients recovering from alcohol and/or opioid dependency. Clients exiting inpatient treatment or those who are at an elevated risk of relapse may engage in more robust treatment, such as intensive outpatient (IOP) programming.
inpatient iconInpatient
When participating in an inpatient rehab program, you'll reside at the treatment center for the duration of the program. Your housing and meals are provided, allowing you to focus on your recovery without outside triggers, stressors, and other distractions. You'll receive daily addiction counseling, drawing on various psychotherapeutic approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Many inpatient drug rehabs also offer complementary holistic therapies, such as yoga, meditation, or animal therapy, and creative arts therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Afterschool IOP hours are similar to those of an after-school program, and run five days a week, Monday to Friday. The School Refusal Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides short-term stabilization for children aged 9 to 12 and adolescents aged 12 to 18 who are having trouble attending school.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs focus on emotional, psychological, and spiritual growth as the foundation for long-term sobriety. They engage in regular 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round, in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring from a self-selected sponsor. Though the 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles, religious affiliation isn't required. Specialized formats are available, including programs for seniors, teens, and families.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for ~ 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals. The hours of PHP are similar to a school day for children (8:45 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday) and adolescents (9 AM to 3 PM, Monday to Thursday. 9 AM-2:30 PM on Friday). For young adults and adults, the hours are 9:30AM-2PM.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
During the medically supervised detox process, licensed medical professionals monitor your vitals and administer medications meant to help alleviate the physical symptoms of withdrawal. The process can take between five and seven days, although the actual length depends on your individual needs. In most cases, medically assisted detox is partially, if not fully, covered by insurance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills training in Illinois gives you the tools you need to meet daily demands. These fall into three main categories: personal skills, interpersonal skills, and cognitive skills. While in rehab, you'll work on each of these areas as part of your recovery treatment.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

This place is the real deal. The entire staff is dedicated to helping people in need. I left the treatment program feeling much more confident, better able to deal with emotional stress, and able to focus much more on being in the moment rather than worrying about the future or ruminating about the past.

Terrible psychiatrists here. I have to agree with many of the people who have written negative reviews about this place. I wish I could write a more positive one, because I did meet with two very kind therapists. But the providers who are in charge of medications, whether they are NPs or MDs (I had both) were HORRIBLE. Neither of them wanted to hear what I was saying. The NP I had was actually mean, callous, accusatory, and aggressive towards me.I started the PHP there with little hope and low expectations but still wanted to give it a shot and put in my best effort. To start, a big problem that I encountered at Compass was that I was very uncomfortable there. Both physically and emotionally. Having previously broken my neck, many chairs are uncomfortable for me, but I'm not the only one who found the space uncomfortable. I wanted to switch to the virtual option (which is what I was originally offered) because I knew I would be more comfortable in my own home, but was pressured, by Jet, into staying in-person. So I agreed and gave it almost two full weeks. But I never felt more comfortable. I never felt ok physically, I was in pain most of the time I was there, and I never felt safe enough emotionally to share in group. These reasons were entirely dismissed by my med providers as reasonable to want to change to virtual. Also, Compass's PHP does not provide lunch. Since I do not have transportation I was constantly walking to the gas station for "lunch". Whereas if I stayed at home, I lived on campus where lunch was provided free.So I was going everyday to a program where I was 1) physically in pain, 2) emotionally uncomfortable, and 3) only eating lunch sometimes and getting it from a gas station.I couldn t believe that healthcare providers, PSYCHIATRISTS no less, flat-out refusal to recognize these concerns as obstacles to successful treatment in the in-person PHP.In the end, the providers there were all-or-nothing. Either you remain in-person PHP (despite having tried it for two weeks and been uncomfortable every single day) or you leave. Whereas I would have been happy with anything in-between, including virtual PHP or IOP. I should also add that I found the groups hit or miss (they're kind of like being in a class). But I was willing to keep going and trying, virtually. Unfortunately, many doctors and healthcare providers are stubborn and it's either their way or nothing. They try to justify their reasons/opinions/need for control by hiding behind the veil of "doing something in your best interest", like mine did at Compass. But coming to a program everyday, where you are physically and emotionally uncomfortable, and have lunch at a gas station, is NOT in a person's best interest. And if they were truly concerned about "my best interest" they would have considered that allowing me to shift into virtual program might have been better/safer than me not being there at all. Do it my way or get lost (???) Yeah that shows real concern for a person.DO NOT GO TO COMPASS if you are someone who values providers who really listen and consider what you say and care how you feel. Or if you are uncomfortable with the idea of having providers who are very controlling.I will say that the therapist I had, Theresa, is an exception, she is an absolute ANGEL.But the med providers are horrible. If I could have seen Theresa more and the others less, it would have been worth staying.Hope this was helpful.

My therapist told me she doesn t appreciate me talking about my trauma when she works at a trauma center. The only reason why I m here is because of trauma. Am I not supposed to get help and keep it all inside. What is she into: cooking, cleaning, ice cream? Please tell me what my therapist is into because apparently I need to talk about something more important in therapy.
