About Community Mental Health Services

Community Mental Health Services promotes whole person wellness through inclusive and high quality integrated mental health care. They have six facilities across six counties in Michigan. This outpatient facility in Mt. Pleasant serves Isabella County residents.

Mt. Pleasant is a city in central Michigan about an hour and a half from the major cities of Lansing and Grand Rapids. The city offers both intercity and local public transportation options. This means people from Alma, Clare and Shepherds can access care here.

The facility provides an array of services for people dealing with co-occurring conditions. This means that you must have serious mental illness and substance use disorder to qualify for care. They use skilled clinicians with expertise in both disorders to provide integrated care. These experts are able to deliver “whole person” healing.

They’ll first thoroughly assess you to identify need for treatment. If you don’t have co-occurring condition or substance use disorder is not your primary issue. In that case, they’ll refer you to community providers offering substance use treatment including detox and residential care. Otherwise, they’ll create an individualized care plan to help you recover from your co-occurring condition.

Services include subacute detox to help you withdraw from alcohol and other drugs. They also offer methadone maintenance treatment for people struggling with heroin and other opioid dependence. This treatment involves medically supervised opioid substitution alongside nursing care and lab tests.

The methadone treatment may be part of their broader intensive outpatient program (IOP). It can also be a standalone therapy. The IOP involves more rigorous or frequent counseling sessions weekly. It aims to equip you with recovery tools that encourage a sober lifestyle and prevent relapse. Both day and evening sessions may be available for convenience.

The facility offers intensive intervention services to further support people dealing with co-occurring issues. This intervention is delivered by their Integrated Dually Diagnosed Treatment teams (IDDT). This specialized team offers personalized interventions tailored to your current stage of recovery from mental illness and substance use.

Doesn't help mentally ill children/teenagers at all, they don't want to listen to you they want to listen to the parents. And once you become an adult with no ability to get there or any idea what your doing because you never received the help you desperately asked for? Well guess what! you no longer get to have it and they'll just straight up drop you! A therapist there watched me actively dying from abuse, I was so skinny and had a bloody arm every appointment but she didn't call csp or anything! She just basically told me "if you did what I said then maybe you'd be better" LIKE HELL I WOULD BE! IM BEING ABUSED!!!!

This place is an absolute joke!! Supposed to be counseling but literally do not know how to treat or speak to children!! Can't treat autism because obviously it's more important for a family therapist to go out of her way to be disrespectful to my grandson in every way. Speaking poorly to him trying to purposely trigger him and just out right disrespectful!!!! I am personally calling the governor office, this place has no business being open. The counselors have no education as far as I can see . They just take up space to collect a check and I have had it

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Take this with a grain of salt, since I have never been a patient here, however, when I went in with a friend to their appointment I was stunned at how much every worker here seemed like they hated being there and how eager they seemed to take their frustrations out on patients. The other reviews really confirm what I immediately suspected.I have met nurses and receptionists with bad attitudes and I am sympathetic, truly, it's not easy work; but this place really crossed a line. There are clearly some real problems here that need to be addressed if this place ever hopes to effectively provide healthcare.

Called after hours for assisting a friend with getting in connection with affordable therapy in the area, and I was told to call back later. What is the point of taking calls after hours if you don't even have a list of available resources to refer others to when yours isn't available?

Response from the owner9 months ago
I am sorry that you could not obtain the resources when you called. While it is true we have a 24/7 line, this is intended for crisis situations. For the most accurate list of resources, it is best to contact us during normal business hours. During normal business hours, we also offer same day access to services https://www.cmhcm.org/services/access-services-now.html

CROSS THAT OUT UPDATESo far so good kind people my case Manger and thearpi are beyond amazing. I'm from down state didn't get nearly the help I do here. Thank you<< FALSEMY THEARPIST MY CASE MAMAGER BEYOND AMAZING. BUT THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. A PLACE for the mental but they try and force you to see doctors that clearly make you feel uncomfortable. After sayin for 3 months the doc has not been working for you that I have anxiety and panic attacks before going to see my doc. That should not happen. Not only was I told from the beginning I could switch docs if need be. For reasons like this. The only way they would switch my do. Is if they switched my case manager and THEARPIST THAT HAS BEEN HELPING ME MORE THAN ANYONE THERE. SO NOW I HAVE 4 DAYS OF MEDS LEFT CAUSE THEY LIKE TO FORCE THINGS ON PEOPLE'S I WILL BE WRITING THE BOARD AND LEAVING COMPLAINTS ITS SO MIND BOGGLING TO ME. SO I SUGGEST JUST THEARPY AND CAE MAANGEMNT. THE DOCS ARE A JOKE.

I have been trying to get my son in to get a therapist since June of 2022. I just called the lady three times today and left voicemails and still received nothing. He also received an autism screening and in the report they called me and him both by names that are not ours and added things that were never said. Don't waste your time with these people.

Just to get seen is literally like pulling teeth. They have you call between this time and this time. However, when you do someone will tell you "Sry, there is no-one available, or we don't have time rate now, or you can't drive/ be in vehicle while talking to us". It's just 1 excuse after another. Even if you do call in there designated time slot. This whole process is prior to even being placed on the schedule. Need to talk to someone? Do yourself a favor, go find a tree. You will have better results.
