About Cliffside Malibu – Luxury Addiction Treatment

Sometimes you come across a clinic that immediately draws you in. That’s how I felt when I checked out Cliffside Malibu’s luxury rehab website. Located in Malibu, California.

This luxurious and scenic location offers a lot to those suffering from drug and alcohol addictions with its vast offering of residential and detox services. Their modalities of treatment include dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, family systems therapy, and somatic experiencing.

If you want to detox in a safe and comfortable environment, it doesn’t get too much more luxurious than Cliffside. This holistic center will have you spending time with your psychotherapist and joining different therapy sessions meant to help you reach sobriety and a happier life. All of your therapy will be completely personalized to fit your specific needs. A day of therapy here looks like roughly four to six hours of sessions. This includes acupuncture, medication, yoga, and other spiritual practices. They put serenity as a priority when seeking a life without drugs or alcohol.

3 months after leaving Cliffside and I honestly can say the staff and program here saved and changed my life. There are many good days and little bad now. The best thing is knowing how to deal with the bad and appreciating that tomorrow will be good again. Here is something I wrote the day I left, it all still rings true. Thanks Cliffside, I have my life back now and it s truly amazing.31 days ago, I walked through the doors of this house, admitting to myself that I needed help beyond what any family member or friend could give.I've always struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety throughout my life, but it s something that intensified over the past few years. Since I was 16, I hadn t stopped. I was running at full speed, achieving my goals and dreams, focused mainly on my career, and looking out for everyone around me. The adrenaline was amazing, flying around the world, bouncing from one cool project to another. But the stress levels were rising, and my self-care was diminishing along with my love for life and enjoyment of the people around me and everything I had accomplished. Then, in January this year, something erupted in my personal life. I spiraled, falling at 100 MPH, trying to cling onto everything I possibly could while juggling multiple projects. Everything intensified, and I couldn t find a way out. Self-care turned into self-medication, and I entered a dark place. No words from friends, therapists, or family could pull me out. Fear turned into isolation.I woke up on May 1st and knew I needed professional help. I called my amazing family, close colleagues, and friends, explaining that the world had become a little too much and I needed some professional help. The spiral was only heading in one direction.Over the past month, the incredible team of doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists at Cliffside Malibu have taken me apart and put me back together. Where there was darkness, I now see bright sunlight. Where there was pain and anxiety, I now see joy and excitement. Giving myself to this process, rediscovering myself, and learning how beautiful life can be with the right tools to navigate and process it has been the most rewarding thing I ve ever experienced.Brad, Christine, Jared, Elijah, and Angie: Thanks for being on this journey alongside me, opening up, and sharing your stories. Every one of you is a true inspiration, and this is just the start of your incredible futures. To all the staff at Cliffside: thank you for changing my life. Roxan, you are just incredible. Nina, you deserve 100 Michelin Stars. All the counselors, doctors, therapists, trainers, techs, instructors, Gretchen, and the house team: thank you, thank you, thank you.The future is a jog, not a sprint. I m so excited for what's in store, to get back out there creating, loving every minute life brings, the people around me, and this next chapter.I had heard so many people in the past write something about when they finally decided to get help, but I didn t believe it and didn t think that anything would help me. If anyone is suffering, there s a way out. The future is bright. If I can help share my story, advice, or connect you with people who can help, then please reach out.I ve been so fortunate to accomplish many things I m proud of in my life, but this moment right now, the moment I did something for myself, is for sure my proudest.

Accepted Insurance

Cliffside Malibu – Luxury Addiction Treatment works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Medi-Cal

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Cliffside Malibu saved my life! The staff and support team are overwhelmingly helpful. And the open curriculum really gives clients the agency to take control of their own recovery path. If you come here with the intent of healing, and use all the resources available, you will succeed. Cessation of use is the primary function of a recovery center. It s the beginning of your journey. But I m leaving here with a full tool bag to jump into my own path of a life of sobriety. Don t sleep on this place. Come sleep in it. Do yourself the favor of gifting your beautiful self the gift of health, life, self love, sobriety, and mental health, here at Cliffside! You won t regret it. But you may regret not doing it. I wish you the best in your recovery journey. And I hope this review will make you consider Cliffside Malibu!

I m a parent of an adult daughter who went to Cliffside Malibu for alcohol rehab nearly 4 years ago.We spent weeks choosing what would be the best fit for her. She had psychological challenges like depression, high anxiety and alcoholism.Cliffside provided intensive dual diagnostic treatments. The spa like atmosphere (yoga, meditation, massage healthy food , individual and group therapy) really helped her relax and focus on her healing. The compassionate providers and their unconditional acceptance and respect helped build her self esteem.Even though She doesn t live in S.California, she continues to benefit from Cliffside s alumnae program and regularly attends aftercare zoom meetings a few times a week!

Cliffside Malibu is an amazing treatment program that continues to serve me almost four years later. We researched centers throughout Southern California, settling on Cliffside for its diverse therapeutic approaches, extensive wellness offerings, & strong reputation within the treatment community. I went there early in the pandemic for both mental health issues & alcohol dependency -both exacerbated by work loss & other pandemic related stressors. I left with a commitment to sobriety & the tools & their alumnae community resources which I believe are key to the sober more psychologically stable life I continue to enjoy today. I attend multiple weekly alumnae AA & Refuge Recovery meetings & maintain close ties with fellow patients, & various staff including our excellent alumnae coordinator, Kelley.

Where do I even begin? I spent four months at Cliffside Malibu four months that saved my life. I have been sober since the day I arrived at Cliffside. The staff were amazing and caring. The Medical staff helped me get through my detox and I wasn't afraid or sick. They kept me comfortable. I had excellent counseling and an individualized care plan. The facilities are extremely clean and absolutely amazing views. Just give it a chance it could save your life like it did mine!

Cliffside Malibu helped me get sober with a variety of intense approaches to treatment in a comfortable and controlled environment, and I m grateful to say that I ve been sober for nearly 4 years and haven t needed treatment since. I was identified as a trauma patient early with significant health challenges and was treated by a trauma counselor accordingly. The staff are exceptionally warm and compassionate and friendly, which was lacking in my home environment. I have since gotten trauma therapy and am rebuilding my career. I am grateful that 30 days was sufficient for me, I sought to not chafe against the cost and become attached to the staff, lest i boomerang but strived to rethink everything in my life and move forward. My only complaint is that the food options are generous but often highly caloric and processed which can be an issue for those of us with extreme diet restrictions, but the cooking staff is very accommodating.

If I had to share my experience at cliffside it would go something like this.My alcoholism has taken me far and wide, from Tarzana to Temecula and praise God to finally Malibu. Many folks need to be in a rigid military style location. I didn't need that, I did a great job beating myself down already.I showed up to cliffside and the moment I walked in I was loved on, looked after, cared for. I really needed some TLC.From the nurse to the housekeeper at CM2 they loved on us.The therapy, outings, case manager meetings and dinners the house had together were medicine to my spirit. The staff would come talk and hang with us which all the difference. We were not just a client, we were people they esteemed and cared about.Post cliffside, Kelley continued to keep in touch through text and asking how I was and always been in touch for alumni events. The alumni meetings have been extra-ordinary, I feel I'm coming home, the therapist, techs and director come up and hugged me.I feel extremely blessed and supported.I see cliffside continues to make a difference and we the clients present and past feel it.Thank you again. Now, I'm back to life, life started falling back into place, going back to work Monday with a running start. I feel good physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.Looking forward to continue utilizing cliffside as one of my resources and possible in the near future running some groups for them.Let's Go!!!All love!Joseph Sax Mendez

Very disappointed in staff an clinical I'm a client at the sunset house an I've had nothing but a bad time here the detox part has no full time nurse on site no defibrillator I woke up this morning to 15 strangers in the house they were having family orientation an didn't tell any of the residents of the actual house they rush us out hours later after complaining have trouble with them getting packages from the post office an i was expecting a AA meeting tonight but i guess a comedy show is more important than actual recovery overall verydisappointed
