About Cumberland Hall Hospital

Cumberland Hall Hospital is a medical facility in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They provide inpatient addiction treatment and mental health care for adults and adolescents.

The adolescent addiction treatment program is for children that are aged 13 through 17. With the input of parents and family, the medical team helps your teen create an individualized recovery plan. This program uses the Seven Challenges model. Treatment is a combination of individual and group therapy and on-site school through the Christian County School District.

If you’re an adult attending treatment for substance use disorder you can expect a combination of relapse prevention and therapy groups and 12-step meetings. You can also expect family integration sessions, sober living skills groups, and recreational therapy.

What stands out about Cumberland Hall Hospital is that they have a number of specialized programs for the military population. They offer dual diagnosis treatment, crisis stabilization, a partial hospitalization program, and medical detox.

Some clients mentioned that treatment served them well and they are thankful for going. Other former clients mentioned they were afraid for their safety due to fighting inside the facility. They also mentioned the programming lacked structure.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Often beneficial for individuals who don't require 24-hour supervision, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) can be an alternative to inpatient rehab or a transitional option. PHP treatment typically involves 6 to 8 hours of treatment per day, up to 5 days a week for an average of 90 days. PHP treatment often includes relapse prevention strategies, medication management, and other behavioral therapy interventions. While the cost of a partial hospitalization program can vary, it is often covered by insurance.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Intensive levels of rehab involve 24-hour clinical care in Kentucky. This level of care is for those who have severe substance use disorders and need medical stabilization. Drug dependency can cause extreme withdrawal symptoms when the drug use stops, so this supervised care is necessary to treat those symptoms. Treatment involves 24-hour medical care, counseling, and medications.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Kentucky often starts with detox, then includes inpatient or outpatient treatment, and continues with aftercare support. Specific methods used during each of these phases varies, but often include individual and group counseling, medication, and recreational therapies.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The only good thing about this place was the rolls. One tech always yelled for no reason, Adolescent girls unit was full of drama. I had to personally get other girls and myself help by complaining to techs that no one was helping because apparently the doctors just dont go on call while gone so youre out of luck if they arent there. Only focused on my adhd and not my depression.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I was in the adolescent unit, there was a girl there who was favored over everyone else. She broke the printer and ripped a phone out of the wall. I got jumped twice due to rumors spread about me and instead of taking care of the kids behavior they put me in the boys group room overnight, when I woke up I was covered in my own hair and all the boys where looking at me through the windows. My parents weren't informed about this until 2 days after. Then I was Isolated all day. When I was finally allowed to go back to the girls side I didn't talk to anyone but one tech. The second time, it was my last day and they just put me back in with them once I calmed down from my panic attack. The techs where in on it Aswell. They told the girls to do it when they where planning it. I was in the same room because they where acting like my friends. When I finally left I had more trauma then I did going in. Please don't send your loved ones here. There are so many other hospitals that are 10x better than this. I came out with bruises (physical and mental). I would not wish this on my worst enemy and I feel horrible for whoever has to go through this.

I was here in late march and it was honestly ridiculous. The staff would glare at me angrily for no reason at all, they accused me of harming myself when I obviously hadn t, and they gave me Adderall instead of Vistril and argued with me that they were right and gave me Vistirl when they obviously said it was adderall (I knew vistirl as hydroxyzine until a month later) the adderall made me feel like a zombie and they kept denying that they were wrong.

I was here as a adolescent most night and day techs were nice but so,e were mean the CEO cam to the hospital and was there at night she helped me with my panic attacks the food was good and the only bad thing is that the group therapist didn't want to have my input the school was harder because it's for middle to high school and the teacher had hard assignments that we did before edgenuity it was fun in gym and on Halloween I liked that we got snacks and water anytime the nurse was really nice during the search I was very nervous at first but the lady that took me to the back room assured me it would be ok the meditation helped me for the future and I learned useful stuff

Genuinely, j would rather die than come back here. Near the beginning I was making these little hand puppets in order to help handle how old it was. Because of something another person did on the other half of the building I had to throw them all away. They said they would take away all paper in case I didn't.Then, they started overdosing me on melatonin because they couldn't put up with me, giving me it for breakfast lunch and dinner.Near the end, I got a book S a gift from my school counselor in order to handle it. They lost it for nearly a year... I'm surprised they don't have a high suicide rate inside, considering how every single person there is evil.
