You cannot even make an appointment. I called to make an appointment to see a care provider and was given no real guidance on how to accomplish said task. The only guidance I was given was "COVID ruined everything". I am not sure what to do with that information. The website lists several care providers and I was simply trying to make an appointment with one of them. This should be a relatively simple barrier to entry for care.

Absolutely appalled by the service and lack of care from this office specifically the front desk receptionist and medical assistants. They cancel appointments last minute and when you call back for an explanation it s an inconvenience. When you explain that your medication is off and you re feeling manic they tell you we can book the next available appointment. If you re feeling suicidal they ll just say go to the Emergency Room. But if that s not bad enough they re literally annoyed that you called in the first place and just put you on an emergency call list BUT they actually WONT call you; they ll message you via mychart because they don t care enough about you or if you acted on your harmful thoughts or if you re alive. Even though you ask a MA to leave a message for your provider; they won t call or even mychart. The providers are fine but you ll go through about 3-5 in the same year because they can t seem to keep providers.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab programs may receive daily, biweekly, or weekly treatment while continuing to live at home. This enables clients to integrate their recovery care plan into their routine work and family schedule. Addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) are the most common services offered at outpatient centers, but many also provide holistic therapies, such as meditation and massage, and ancillary services, such as career coaching.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs promote clients' long-term recovery by providing a robust continuum of care aligned with clients' evolving needs. Because addiction is a chronic disease prone to relapse, rehab aftercare services are highly client-focused and uniquely responsive to clients' changing medical, mental health, and social circumstances. Case managers and care teams collaborate with clients, assess their goals and needs, and provide access to recovery-focused resources, such as peer coaching, employment assistance, and relapse prevention services.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living homes in New Mexico is a peer-managed residence designed for individuals who want to maintain sobriety. To achieve this goal, the setting offers recovery groups, household participation, and required sobriety. Residents rent a room and share living space with others in recovery. Individuals can live in the men's or women's sober living home indefinitely, if they continue to live in accordance with the house rules. Most stay at least six months.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Medical detox is offered under 24-hour clinical care in New Mexico. This setting includes a team of professionals who can address your physical, emotional, and mental health needs 24/7. Doctors often prescribe medications to relieve withdrawal symptoms and make the process safer and more comfortable. This level of care continues until you have completed detox and are medically cleared to move on to outpatient or inpatient rehab.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
When your body is purged of all addictive substances, the process is known as detoxification, and this is typically the first step in the addiction recovery process. A medically assisted detox is generally performed in an inpatient setting, where you are monitored by a team of medical professionals who consistently check and recheck your vital signs and provide medications if necessary to help alleviate any withdrawal symptoms. After you've safely cleared drugs and alcohol from your system, you'll likely transition to an inpatient addiction treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.

They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women

These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

When you participate in cognitive behavioral therapy in New Mexico you can expect to follow a structured four step process. This involves identifying life challenges, identifying inaccurate thinking about those challenges, changing those thought patterns to healthy ones, and changing the resulting behaviors.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The focus of trauma therapy is on healing the emotional wounds that happen after a traumatic experience. You may have witnessed the event or experienced it yourself. Your therapist will guide you through confronting those memories, which helps promote emotional regulation, resilience, and mental well being.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Often, cravings and withdrawal symptoms stop people from giving up tobacco. Nicotine replacement therapy in New Mexico helps with these symptoms, so the process is more comfortable. To quit smoking, you may want to consider these therapies, which include medications, inhalers, sprays, patches, and gum.

Dr. Maloney (aka Mahoney from Police Academy) nailed it -- my relative needed Benadryl stat for an allergic reaction and some sleep from withdrawal from prescribed medication. Patient was out in two days feeling much better. Doc nailed it. Staff was kind and extremely empathetic and compassionate. Everyone there treated us with respect. Godly people -- God is good.

I had to file a court complaint to have Christus keep my very unstable psychotic sister an extra week, as so called "doctor" Dasari said "her hands were tied," and was going to put her on the street They wanted her back on the street again after 6 months of being there! (when psychotic she can't recognize family) A week after discharge my sister saw a Dr Tapp, who was the most dismissive human I have every come across in my life. (retaliation perhaps??) He saw her for maybe 60 seconds, gave her a different prescription from her discharge doctor, and said he would see her in 3 months. She is very fragile and unstable from being homeless 6 months. No follow up care, nothing. A poor excuse for medical care! Beware!!

Response from the owner4 years ago
I am deeply saddened by your sister's situation, and very sorry to hear your story. I will share this with the clinic manager, and urge you to communicate with Danielle Roybal, Patient Relations, 505-913-5327 or email danielle.roybal@stvin.org.

Dr. Freedman truly is a man who personally cares about his patients. He will attempt to remedy a condition with pharmaceuticals (when necessary) alongside natural treatments. He will listen to what you have to say, and keeps an open mind vis-a-vis treatment options. Most importantly, Dr. Freedman recognizes the diversity of individuals on the phycological level and will not treat every patient as the same.
