About Children’s Recovery Center

Children’s Recovery Center is a lifeline for parents in Norman, Oklahoma, and beyond who are watching their teenagers struggle with addiction. This inpatient rehab serves kids who are 12 to 17 years old who have drug or alcohol addiction or psychiatric issues. Since they help with both addiction and mental health, they’re uniquely helpful for kids with dual diagnoses.

This rehab actually has two separate units. The first is a 24 hour crisis stabilization unit. You can walk into this treatment center at any time with your teen who’s in a mental health crisis and they’ll help them get through this difficult time.

The other unit is the inpatient residential program. This program is for teenagers who need intensive treatment for their addiction or psychiatric issues. Since they specialize in helping teens with substance abuse, the staff at this rehab knows how to help your teen reach and maintain sobriety while they develop healthy social relationships and other things they need to thrive.

This rehab is a public facility that’s run by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. According to clients, that’s both a positive and a negative. It’s great to have a facility where you don’t have to worry about whether you can afford treatment. But it does have a lot of the issues you often see at public facilities like a lack of funding for adequate staff and important resources. It is accredited by the Joint Commission, so you can trust that your child will receive a high standard of care.

I hated it there, I understand it wasn't gonna be fun but at some point it just didn't help at all and made everything worse, the only good thing I got out of that was medicine I guess, the first night I got there it was the middle of the night and I was hyperventilating on the floor screaming about to pass out and all they did (especially one specific doctor) stared at me and said "that's not gonna help, your not helping anything" I was so dizzy and freaked out without enough sleep exactly a year after my mom died, and that man was just leaning against a wall and being all sarcastic watching a 12 year old kid who tried to stab themselves just a couple hours ago hyperventilating. Some of the staff did look like they were trying, but other than like 2 people everyone else didn't give a crap that I had intense almost debilitating anxiety and caused several panic attack for me. At some point they told me they had piercing spacers so my piercings won't close but they completely ignored me when I talked to them about it but still gave other kids spacers. They were constantly throwing away the art that I had to make with my trash because there was LITERALLY NOTHING, I get that they have to take away alot of things so we don't have a way to hurt ourselves or someone else but I was making tiny little projects from my trash and they always took them and threw them away, the staff was lowkey kinda irresponsible and constantly messing up, they didn't tell me anything and got mad at me when I accidentally broke the rules such as accidentally walking into the staff room, the NEVER told me about laundry and I was constantly wearing dirty clothes because I wouldn't let myself ask them because of anxiety, I feel like they should've thought of that tho since it is a mental hospital for kids, the food made me wanna throw up to the point that I didn't even know whatever I was supposed to be eating, my therapist didn't help for crap, they told me they clean the bathrooms but my bathroom was so gross when I got there but was somehow the only place that felt safe, they kept blaming me and this other kid for trying to hurt eachother, I could keep going on and on but I don't wanna make a too long review

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Oklahoma can be an effective tool for a loved one who's struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Intervention services include trained interventionists to help families plan and carry out an intervention with their loved one. It is often helpful to involve a non-partial expert in this highly emotional process. The interventionist provides expert insight and can recommend the best course of treatment for the individual and family.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Oklahoma is highly recommended for those beginning recovery. As your body detoxes, withdrawal from substances such as alcohol, benzos, and opiates can cause severe physical symptoms. Health risks include seizures, hallucinations, heart palpitations, and severe dehydration. A clinical setting offers 24/7 medical care to treat these symptoms and make the detox process more comfortable.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

To address the issues of addiction, each drug rehab in Oklahoma is tailored to meet the individual's needs. Treatment may occur in a residential or outpatient setting, and may last from a few days to several months.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My sister was locked in a closet because they were trying to force an old male therapist on her after they asked her preference. Didn't take it into account and she explained why to them and they still did what they did. Don't think this is a good place.

Going here as a child made me wanna commit. These people are untrained and half the reasons they keep children here longer are absolutely ridiculous. If you hate your kid - send them here.

Was here for almost a year when I was a kid from February 2010 to January 2011. Was mentally abused by staff & almost got molested in the shower by another patient. The majority of the people I were there with are dead or in prison. All this place does is expose children to horrible conditions and prime them for incarceration as an adult. Good job Oklahoma lmao

I went here when I was 14. I was inpatient for months! This place saved my life especially the two twin nurses who worked on my dorm. I made many positive connections here and was able to heal from past trauma. It has made me the woman I am today, studying ro be a psych nurse myself. I am forever grateful for the people I met here!
