About Cherokee Health Systems

Cherokee Health Systems Hamblen County - Talbott is an addiction and behavioral health treatment clinic located in Talbott, Tennessee. They treat children, adolescents, and adults who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction, and those who are diagnosed with co-occurring conditions. They offer outpatient care.

Their treatment programs here consist of psychotherapy services, as well as medication assisted treatment (MAT) for those with severe cases of addiction. Those who’ve been recently discharged from a drug rehab center may find continued care at this clinic. Here, they use naltrexone and buprenorphine to help ease the physical pain of withdrawal, minimize cravings and lower the risk of relapse.

The outpatient program at Cherokee Health Systems offers something for people of all ages. Adults can benefit from individual, family and couples psychotherapy. Other services include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a skills group for adults, and psychiatric day treatment. In addition to this, children and teens can benefit from school-based therapy and evaluation of autism spectrum disorders.

Something unique about this facility is that they can coordinate your care and integrate it with other medical services offered through their vast healthcare network. They work closely with local primary care teams to make sure that you’re entire being is healthy and cared for. If you’re dealing with a co-occurring psychiatric condition, they’ll make sure you have the care you need.

Cherokee Health Systems can potentially accept most commercial insurances, like Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, United Healthcare, etc. Reach out to your provider to check coverage because out-of-network benefits may vary.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

The IOP is a 12 week program for adults with alcohol and other drug addictions. The IOP curriculum is comprehensive and based on cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and family systems theory. The patients also have access to anger management groups, aftercare groups and many behavioral health treatment groups also including dialectical behavioral health.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Today I visited this place and it took a lot to assist me, I waited for more than 2 hours to be seen, since there are new staff I don't like to go to this place because the service is horrible. If you want to get help from this place you will not find it, they are rude, and ... Read More

My son and me! Today we have to be part of the clusters of this place. They expect a 3-year-old child to sit still when that is impossible. Unpleasant experience with the nurse.

Dr. Warden is so amazing! I have a medically complex child and she has always been amazing with him and even with me as the parent makes sure all my worries are taken care of. She helps make sure that all his needs are met and reassuring she will help as much as possible. Couldn t ask for a better doctor for my children

The staff is kind and the doctors care. My daughter who is now 16 has been with Cherokee Health for many years. They're wonderful at having available specialist life psychologist, psychiatrist and therapist who care. The nurse practioner is very knowledgeable. Dr Hughes is one of the best children psychiatrist I have used.

Complete disregard for appointment times. Sometimes waiting up to 2 hours past appointment time to receive the telehealth call. Charged different amounts for the exact same type of regular appointment.

It is absolutely horrible how long you have to wait even with an appointment. If you are out of here in 2-3 hours, that s a good day! You don t want to bring your sick child here and have them suffer in a waiting room for hours!
