About Westpark Springs Changes

Westpark Springs Changes is a drug and alcohol rehab facility located in Richmond, Texas. They specialize in treating people with dual diagnoses. People with this condition are experiencing a mental health condition and addiction issues at the same time.

They are an outpatient facility that offers several different options for treatment. The level of care you receive will be determined by an intake assessment. They are open for intake 24 hours a day.

They have a partial hospitalization program that lets people come in for a full day of treatment and go home at night. If you cannot commit to full days of treatment, they have an intensive outpatient program that lets you come in several times a week. This is often the best option for people who are working or in school.

No matter what program you choose, you will be treated with both group and individual therapy. They treat addiction issues with cognitive behavioral therapy, which teaches people to think in a more realistic and positive way in order to change destructive behaviors. They also use mindfulness training, which teaches people to be intensely aware of their own thoughts and feelings in a certain moment.

They also provide wellness training. You will learn how diet and activities can affect brain function and the rest of your body. They have yoga classes there several times a week. They offer recreational therapy such as music and art.

They have special group sessions for families as well. Being able to talk to your family about addiction is an important part of recovery.

I was a patient here and was treated fairly good, there really isn t much communication with the psychiatrist to the therapist to you about discharge dates, or more information about your treatment plan but the therapist make up for it. I was blessed to have Mr. Z and Ms. Samurah as my therapists and can not emphasize enough!! To give them full credit of my mental health improvement. With them I have truly progressed so much and got the right therapy for me. Being able to talk to them and getting the right support from them has made me able to be more adaptable, find the right coping mechanisms for me, and accept my struggle and truly learn from this and grow as a person. Thank you to them! There are no complaints in that department. I hope they see this and continue to help other people and empower them just like they did for me. Thank you thank you thank you. Although one complaint is the lack of communication given to you about your schooling. I got super behind and just wish that my assignments could have been either1. Sent directly to me or 2. Once I returned to school, given extra time to complete everything that I missed out on. I really had to vouch for myself when I got back to school to be given time to turn in everything without late points. In general not too bad of a place coming from a patient that had my stay.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Changes changed my life... I was in a bad place and with the help of Dr. McFarland ,(I hope thats spelled right), and my absolutely amazing therapist Ms. Kelly, my mental health has improved. Dr. McFarland, my parents, and I worked together to help me get off the medication that didn t work for me anymore and moved me forward onto a new medication. Talking in my specific group really helped me move forward in my life and I felt like I wasn't alone anymore. Every staff member was so kind, caring, and consiterate to our issues. Mr. Conner helped me out with some of my school work issues by contacting my school and finding out what work I needed to be doing in order to pass. And last but not least, my therapist Ms. Kelly literally saved my life.Ms. Kelly helped me by:-walking me through my first ever therapy experience-taught me tools to use in the real would-how to understand myself and my emotions-helped us realize we are loved-showing us we aren't alone-how to cope with trauma and so much more.Im so much better because of her and I can't thank her and all the staff enough for what they have done to help me. CHANGES literally CHANGED my life.So from an actual patient to you, if you re reading my review and are considering coming to Changes, please do.It will change your life for the better!

It doesn't matter what location you go to the care the give patients is very unprofessional, very uncaring and insensitive to patients and their needs. The management should get involved and start training people correctly so patients walk away feeling like they're in a better place, not feeling worse than they went in. They were disgusted with the care that gives patience very unsatisfied very disgusted with this place. If I could give a lower score I would they need to shut down because they're not helping people.

THEY CALL CPS AT THE DROP OFF A HAT! BEWARE!! my child's therapist called CPS because she didn't have documentation of his living arrangement.... Like it's any of her business, but instead of asking the PARENTS ... Whom have documentation, she calls CPS!!! She said she didn't ask us because we could just lie! She claims she is so worried about my child's mental state??? What happens if the state puts him in foster care.... What about his mental state then??? She doesn't really care obviously, and they teach that playing the PlayStation is a coping skill when that's the main source of stress in the home!!! Teach the kids to meditate, to take a walk breathing exercises.... REAL COPING SKILLS... THEY ARE RUINING MY CHILD AND MAKING ALL OF OUR LIVES WORSE!!! DON'T GO YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!
