outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This place is a joke. Called to make an appointment to see Dr for knee pain Nurse said come in as a walk in. All the while knowing an appt was needed. Got here at 8 and at 12 still waiting on dr. Have had to wait weeks for a refill. They need to get rid of everyone and start taking care of the veterans.

Update. 07/07/2024In my previous review I praised the staff of Brownwood VA. Those people are no longer employed there. The reason I was given was that they were spending too much time and resources attempting to help Veterans in a real way. These caring people were replaced with more "efficient" employees that are inconvenienced by being asked a basic question..... Traveling to Temple VA is longer an option either. The care offered and staff there now remind me of a 3rd world countries.Community Care is now nearly null and void! All of my outside providers stopped providing care because they weren't being paid for the services that they had ALREADY provided. At this point it would be WAY cheaper and more advantageous to veterans if VA was completely scrapped! Veterans could get REAL CARE from private providers for a very small fraction of money that VA currently waist and gives away....Old original review.Va is no longer a viable option for care. Since Cooper left there hasn't been a provider willing, worth or able to provide any care whatsoever. The hospital has never been an option either, looks like driving to Temple has become a reality for me. I do have to say that the ladies up front and a couple of the nurses are top notch and do care! Unfortunately! Without a provider the whole facility is useless.... The PA that is currently there has an extremely unwarranted high opinion of himself and would in my opinion serve the VA better as a janitor. When I first started going to B-wood VA it was without a doubt an extremely capable facility second to none, now, it's simply a joke.

Upon reading these reviews of the Brownwood VA and the behavior of the staff at the reception area I am wondering why people like this keep their job . Is it that administration is just too lazy to address it, no one else wants their jobs or have they just " always done it that way '' ? There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to be rude, if that is your thing , get a job at the salebarn pushing cattle up the alley to sell ! Evidently the doctors are not much better because they cannot seem to do anything for a severely broken collarbone that has OBVIOUSLY NOT Grafted in a year now . I sure wouldn't trust them with anything else. What kind of place is our government running, these men and women DESERVE better than this ! There is a law passed that a Veteran can see any doctor , but they have to live farther than 40 miles from a VA clinic. That needs to change !

I gave 3 stars because one was completely rude and just walked away refused to help, that would be Colleen. Beth on the otherhand was extremely helpful.

There is a new doctor at the VA Medical Clinic in Brownwood, and he is amazing! He asked questions and actually listened to my answers. When I asked questions, he answered. He spent time explaining things. I sure hope this is a turning point to upgrade this clinic that has gotten so many bad reviews due to the disrespectful and uncaring attitudes of some of the front line personnel. I actually felt like I was heard and respected. Very good doctor's appointment this year! I am impressed and grateful.

The lady who's name starts with an A who works at the front desk is extremely rude and unprofessional. She was demeaning an older veteran and talking down upon him!

My experience a few years ago, concerned the front office staff. One older lady was particularly Rude as she could be. The Staff defended her and even went as far to deny me service. It was a very shameful experience.

Worst VA experience I ve ever had. Very rude ladies at the desk. All the good Doctors are gone. There s got to be a reason for that. Total waste of my time and gas. No sincerity at all. They should find another occupation.
