My husband was in hospital for a little over a week and while he did receive good care, most of the nursing staff, do not listen when someone is telling them what is wrong and why. They seem to feel that because they hold a nursing degree they know more about a patient even when that patients spouse who lives with them has more information then they do. The nurses need to stop and listen to what is being said and stop being so patronizing. My husband had left paperwork that needed to be filled out and five days later it was still not filled out. He needed this paperwork to get a paycheque and to be put on short term disability. The response he received when he called about it after learning nothing had been sent to his HR Manager was "it's not our fault" people there need to take responsibility and accountability for their actions which most of the staff can't seem to do. I know you are going to say you are sorry for the experience and to contact Patient Care but why it just goes in one ear and out the other and nothing changes.

I am very disappointed in the centra care hospital system. While I appreciate the staff that have taken care of my mother and father when in the hospital, it was quite evident that communication between teams and specialists was lacking. We could also tell that specialists like OT and PT as well as the change in social workers when she moved floors did not read previous care notes made by the other workers. My mother was recently hospitalized twice. She was hospitalized for Covid and when they discharged her they did not call to update or give any information about next steps when my mother was picked up and family couldn't be there because of covid precautions. She was hospitalized again, likely with lasting effects from her previous stay, and had a multitude of issues for the last 2 weeks including heat surgery. Again, they discharged her without calling any family member to take her home and instead called a care cab. My mom was dropped off at home without anyone knowing or any support getting back inside the house. She has mobility issues and had to carry her own items inside and get up 5 stairs on her own after a major surgery. Doctors recommended rehab centers for after care and then suddenly this changed when she moved floors even after we expressed concern and it was noted in previous notes about her being safe and taken care of at home. The discharges and lack of communication was very negligent and completely unacceptable. My mother could have been injured or worse with this kind of discharge. They can do better.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients typically enter inpatient rehab after they complete detox. Inpatient care is also designed for clients who are experiencing a crisis and are at an increased risk of relapse. Clients reside at the treatment center for the duration of their program. Clients engage in intensive addiction counseling, often using CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing or other proven modalities. Many inpatient rehabs offer recovery-focused life skills training. Evidence-based complementary therapies, such as meditation and yoga, may be included.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Withdrawal from alcohol and drugs can be uncomfortable - even dangerous - without the proper medical supervision. The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body is with a medically supervised detox where a team of on-site medical professionals can monitor your health and progress 24/7, then administer medications (like Suboxone or Vivitrol) if necessary to mitigate symptoms of withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

The Dual Diagnosis Program teaches clients how addiction issues affect mental illness. This program is available to residential and full-day outpatient clients. Various therapists specialize in DBT, chronic pain management, ADD/ADHD, co-dependency, eating disorders and dual disorders.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Therapists often use cognitive behavioral therapy in Minnesota to treat substance use disorders because it can help clients quickly identify challenges and ways to cope with them. Its structured, specific methods require fewer sessions than other types of therapy.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Counseling is professional guidance to help a person, family, or group of individuals recognize and deal with issues that are interfering with their mental well-being. Counseling involves regular meetings (sessions) with a qualified counselor, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, licensed professional counselor, or clinical social worker. Counseling, which may also be called psychotherapy or therapy, can be done on an individual, family, or group basis.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Minnesota can help you understand yourself and your partner better and identify the issues causing stress in the relationship. From finances to addiction to children, you'll learn skills to deal with various stressors and strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy supports addiction recovery by giving you enjoyable activities that improve your overall well being. Treatment centers may include team sports, arts and crafts, or outdoor activities to help reduce your cravings, alleviate stress, and build a supportive community network that helps maintain long term sobriety.

I'd give HUGE zero if possible! I have been peeing blood, blood clots, and stones... went to urgent care 24 hrs later. Even after receiving an antibiotic shot and on antibiotics, my pain is still as bad as birthing a child! Had a virtual visit with urgent care and was instructed to go to the Emergency Room ASAP! Here I am 2 hrs later still in the waiting room and it was 2:15pm! I have had many stones/ infections in the past, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS! So her I sit bawling my eyes out with everyone staring at me! RIDICULOUS and shame on you!

Response from the owner2 weeks ago
We hear your concern and can only imagine how frustrating it was for you to feel like you weren t being cared for in a timely manner. We apologize we did not meet your expectations. LND and NICU: I dont even know where to begin. My wife went into early labor so we got sent to st cloud from our home hospital. The whole thing from start to finish 38 days in total was amazing. I wish I could remember our care team names and list them all- each and every one in both departments were absolutely amazing. The food choices are great and well priced, general staff were super helpful. 34 day NICU stay and they kept us informed each step of the way and even let me sit in on a care plan meeting so I knew what to expect for the next few days. The LND team cared well for my wife before and after giving birth and, given my wifes history, made her feel very comfortable. Again I wish I could remember their names, you can imagine that 38 days would give you lots of nurses and doctors, to give each one the recognition they deserve. From the bottom of my heart my family thanks you for everything!!! We were so impressed that even though we live in the Brainerd area that we plan on making this team our primary if we have another one.

Response from the owner2 weeks ago
Matt, we will be sure to share your kind words with our team members so they can hear your appreciation. We wish you, your wife and your child the very best, and thank you for take the time to express your gratitude.

My father was brought to the ER by ambulance early in the morningwith shortness of breath, extreme weakness, bradycardia, diaphoresis, and confusion. He was brought right back to the exam room and was there when I got to him. Everything went fine in ER until the doctor decided there wasn't anything wrong and discharged him. Later that same day, my dad became symptomatic again so a second ambulance trip took place. This time, the ER was PACKED and someone made the decision my dad was "stable" and just parked him in the waiting room which is where he was when I got there. He was rocking back and forth with abdominal pain, pale, and generally unwell. Two trips to the desk to check on getting him back, I'm told that "all the exam rooms were full", or "it was determined your dad is stable so we have to take the more serious patients first. Some people have been waiting SEVEN hours so it's going to be a while yet". I don't know how long we sat there but it was at least a couple hours or more. My THIRD trip to the desk, I wanted to know who decided my dad was stable, clarify what they had down for his chief complaint, and point out the fact that he was in a lot of pain. It wasn't more than a couple minutes and we were called back. He ended up seeing a different doctor who was so caring and thorough. The whole experience after that was fine and the doctor and staff were wonderful. As it turned out, my dad had a GI bleed. He spent an entire week in the hospital. The ER is horrible and definitely needs major improvement!

I work at KwickTrip, we have a very strict policy of not gossiping in front of customers or be on cell phones. If KWICKTRIP can do it I'm thinking if this was your policy you can do it. It's extremely rude, especially for concerned family members.
