About Centerstone – North Marr Road

Centerstone - North Marr Road is a health focused nonprofit that specializes in treating mental health and substance or alcohol use disorders. Their center in Columbus, Indiana, offers addiction prevention and support groups for adults. They also offer psychiatric care and counseling at this site, and they provide specialized support for veterans.

Peer support groups at Centerstone help clients learn new coping skills and techniques for staying present and reducing anxiety. They also have AA and NA meetings at the North Marr Road location. Their licensed mental health professionals can provide counseling and support to address the underlying issues that contribute to addiction. Individual, group and family sessions are available. Addiction prevention topics range from bullying to opioid addiction and are available to all ages.

Centerstone provides military services that include more than addiction treatment. They also offer peer support and counseling specifically for veterans, as well as homelessness intervention and case management. They pride themselves on their culturally competent care for active duty military members and veterans.

Since Cornerstone has a wide array of services available, they can provide a full spectrum of care to children, adolescents and adults. That means they can support recovery for adults while also providing mental healthcare to kids and teens. That makes Cornerstone a good choice for parents and families. And having specialized military care means active duty folks and veterans can find someone who understands their unique experience and can offer real help.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. This place is a joke. I went three years ago, did my intake and never got services. I would call and nobody seemed to know anything but they'd have someone call me back. That happened several times and I never heard from anyone. My child got two separate referrals to go here and somehow they managed to drop the ball both times. Nobody knows what's going on. Somebody will call you...blah blah blah. This time I've been given the run around for two weeks. Enough is enough. Does anybody know anything there? If you genuinely need help I would suggest going somewhere else where they are knowledgeable and return phone calls.

My doctor doesn't care that my medicine she keeps prescribing me is over $500 and my insurance doesn't cover it. So every month I have to call and get a different one which takes at least 3 days to finally go through. Now it's memorial weekend and my doctor did the same thing again except now she is away for 2 weeks and I have no medication.Nurses are wonderful. There's someone on the phone I get transfered too before a nurse and she doesn't do her job. She left my paperwork empty and I had to call multiple times to get it situated to get my medicine.Overall I would not recommend this place if you can go somewhere else because centerstone has been nothing but a headache every single month.Editing to reduce to 1 star because I have left multiple voicemails asking for help with getting me my medication and no one has called me back all week. Do NOT go here if you don't have to its AWFUL

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Just felt like another number there. A few yrs ago, I needed services. Started the process, but was treated with apathy.U tend to get that a lot nowadays with these mental health conglomerates. Alot of them are like that, & i definitely felt that way with Centerstone. Just another number....The reason why I am posting this now instead of yrs ago, is bc I need services today, & I am faced with the ONLY choice being Centerstone. So I just go w/o services bc I'm not going thru that again.

I had a very positive experience at Centerstone. The staff and Doctor were both friendly and helped me with my needs. The front desk girl who checked me in and out was especially nice and helped me with my paperwork. I recommend this place for sure.

I have been going through some of the most difficult times of my life and wanted to get counseling. The staff on the phone was rude beyond anything I've ever experienced and the staff don't really care if you get the help you want. They are only in it for the money and have failed. I would definitely not recommend them.

They really don't care if you get the help you want if its not what they want you won't get anything. Bunch of pill pushers that'll mess your mental state worse. I told them if I was to take any meds I have to have a Nero psychological evaluation done or I will not be attending. Been told they're working on it since August. I left and told them I'll come back only if I get the help I want not what they want

I live in a rural but this centerstone is only 15 mins away from my home. My insurance only covers certain places and the next nearest place that my insurance covers is almost 2 hours away. Because of where I live, it is technically in Shelby County, and when I called they said that they only service Bartholomew county residents. IM 15 MINS AWAY. Isn't the whole point of places like this to help those in need? From the other reviews, I doubt they would help anyways. They give a bad name to the clinics that actually want to help.

they loved billing me with no promises of ever actually being seen. I've been trying to get back with them after three years, and it seems to be worse than the bad it was before. was given severe diagnoses the first go around without considering ADHD or Autism, probably because I'm AFAB. Patti Rubino, who I used to see, was very unethical one day, telling me that my pro-choice was morally wrong and suggested I watch a pro-forced-birth documentary. highly don't recommend

I've been dealing with Centerstone for years and I've had bad experiences and good experiences. They just have to find the right person/people for you to work with. I haven't always been satisfied with the people I work with and I'm sure they wasn't always satisfied with me. But instead of giving up talk to someone about it and hopefully the can match you with the right person you need. Centerstone has a lot of caring people that work for them.
