About Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy

The Center for Counseling & Psychotherapy is a counseling center in Yakima, Washington. They provide outpatient care and teletherapy for those who’d rather do therapy from the comfort of their home. Their programs treat children, adolescents, and adults, so you’ll find something here for you no matter your age. If you need a referral to specialized services, like addiction treatment, they can provide that.

At first glance, their treatment options looked to me a bit intimidating, or at least overwhelming. But options aren’t a bad thing. They offer cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive processing therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and couples and family counseling.

For children and adolescents, they offer acceptance and commitment therapy, interpersonal therapy, play therapy, and parent child interaction therapy. Check out this clinic if you feel that you or your loved one would benefit from one or more of these therapy models.

I have only had 2 appointments with this establishment and I am not satisfied with the clientele. Not so much the therapist Duane although I have reservations on his methods. He seems like he doesn't really care or doesnt let his patients get out what they need to talk about without some kind of irrelevant unrelated remark. The problem I have is the complete disorganization of the front office and their strict policies and lack of communication (on all platforms). With that being said, they had disrespected my wife by blatantly ignoring her when she was trying to be responsible when handling her appointments. At first they claimed their phone lines were having difficulties. I later found out that wasn't the case, because they have a horrible reputation of returning one phone calls...myself included. To top this off, I was directly lied to 3 times in one day by them. I had an appointment yesterday. Afterwards I asked the front office to give my wife a phone call to reschedule an appointment that she had call to cancel 2 days earlier due to an illness. They said they never received her phone call...regardless of what time she called to cancel. They even had the nerve to ask me if she call and I said "Yes she did...I was standing right next to her when she did" and the staff looked dumbfounded and airhead. Lie #1! I wrote down on a sticky note her number and even gave them our house number and asked them to give her a call. They said they will...they never once called. Lie #2! She ended up calling to cancel her services and take her business elsewhere. Their reasoning for not calling back was because they lost the sticky note with the numbers on it. Lie #3! I saw the receptionist place the sticky note on her desk. How could she have lost a sticky note after having been there 6 hours prior to me finding out this gobbly-goop explanation. The medical field has gotten so screwed up in the world today but treacherous in Yakima County alone. It one thing to do it to me...but my wife as well? You have crossed the line....so stick it where your cheeks meet!!! I am closing my services and going elsewhere along with my wife. It's time to look out of town. Here's how!!!

I have been going here I think for two months now and Garrett Upton my counselor has been working with me patiently. Mr. Upton has been setting small goals for me to work towards.Mr. Upton is a great listener, he will give you the best advice he can give you to his acknowledgement. Mr. Upton will be patient with you, he will have you set one small goal at a time and have you works towards that go. If he thinks you need more time he will give you more time. When I am down with a migraine, sick or just not feeling well just call his main office and they will switch your appointment to video Telehealth so that way you can rest at home and you don't half to miss an appointment which I like.I highly recommend Garrett Upton at Center For Counseling And Psychotherapy.

Can you really trust a review from someone that goes to this kind of place? That being said,I have only been here once and already I m starting to wonder if my money would be better spent somewhere else? Maybe I m impatient to some degree but at the same time for the amount of money being charged for services, I would think they could afford to hire someone that knows how to respond to voicemails in a timely manner. Seems a bit unprofessional I don t have anything bad to say about the therapist, just not sure it s worth the headache trying to reach them.I originally wrote this review eight months ago and just after writing the post they seemed to have fixed the issue, I think it was with the receptionist at the time. Anyways, I wanted to share that I did resume therapy with Jeff Thompson. I have seen a lot of different therapist and Jeff was very good at assessing my needs and helping me through my darkest times. He would periodically send me information through email that could help me through my struggles so I know he genuinely cared. I would highly recommend this place. There were some informational packets with some Christianity views in the waiting room but I was never pressured into looking at them, I don't even recall ever really talking about religion. It was just reading material I could look at while waiting for the therapist.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Hi, im new here from Chicago, I hated this city, state, and Yakima it self and when me and my S O went here I didnt mind the christian stuff every where honestly if that bugs you then just open your eyes a bit more cause thats a bad reason to rate one star. Two the frost desk women and gentlemen are always super nice and understanding and pleasant in general to talk or converse with. Even the older people who come in to see the counselors talk with us and there super nice. This whole town has been snobby and just rude and this place has been my one outlet to complain and help fix my and my S.o's issues so you know what it deserves some good ratings.

Place was covered with pamphlets about Christianity, with pop gospel ringing through the waiting room. Saw Duane once, and after having mentioned one night that I drank, he presumed I was an alcoholic and told me alcohol is not your friend over and over for the rest of the session. He laughed at my circumstances quite a bit and and made me feel very low about myself.

I have been seeing Duane D. for many years now. I can't begin to tell you how much he has helped me. What ever I am struggling with, whether it be relationships with men, my children, my job situation, or my personal growth, he knows how to turn me around. I'll never forget a time with my life seemed to be falling about all around me. I went to him and started in... My son is loaded, my boyfriend is a creep, my boss is..., and so on. When I was finished ranting, he laughed and, but how are YOU? He turned my perspective all around only for me to discover that I had so much going for me and that all of those things were outside of my control. So, that is one out of probably 100 visits. Each one has been a important. I would highly recommend Duane as a psychotherapist.

Dwayne is very condescending and actually makes you feel worse after you see him. He constantly interrupts you and makes you feel like an idiot. Be prepared for a major blow to your self esteem after seeing him. Now I need a new therapist for the damage this "therapist" has caused.
