About Gateway Community Services on Stockton

Gateway Community Services on Stockton is a nonprofit treatment center available for the community in Jacksonville, Florida. Here at this treatment center they specialize in treating children, adolescents, adults and their families who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The levels of care offered at this facility include medical detox, residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program (PHP) and aftercare. They also offer recovery housing. This facility provides flexibility with treatment coverage including self pay, and sliding scale fees. They also accept Medicaid insurance among a variety of other insurances.

What stands out the most to me is the services they offer to the community, especially to individuals who do not have financial support, are experiencing homelessness, or are uninsured or underinsured. This facility’s medical detox is the only nonprofit within the area of Northern Florida. This opens up an opportunity for individuals who may feel like they have no options for treatment. It creates hope, motivation, as well as encouragement to live a healthier and happier life.

Medical detox gives you a chance to get the medical help you need during the beginning stages of recovery. This stage can include withdrawals and cravings, and supervised detox minimizes potential complications. You will be under medical supervision around the clock throughout the duration of this level of treatment.

After the completion of treatment they also offer recovery housing to men, women and women with children. This option provides a safe and secure environment to help you continue your journey in recovery. They have three sites. Alumni house is available to both men and women. Magnolia house is for women and children. The Independence Village offers long term housing for men and women. This helps you develop a sense of community by being in the atmosphere of a sober and healthy environment and still having the support of staff and peers.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabilitation allows you to continue to live at home during drug or alcohol addiction treatment. This type of treatment may be more suitable for those unable to take extended absences from work or personal obligations. Gateway has three levels of outpatient treatment, each with specific time commitments. Before patients are admitted to many of our outpatient programs, they must attend four two hour Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) groups. Gateway Community's traditional outpatient services program, the least restrictive level of care, meets from 10 am to 12 pm once or twice a week. For evening groups, the frequency of this service could increase to four nights a week depending on the need of the individual. Their next level of care, day program meets three hours a day from 9 am to 12 pm five days a week for six to eight weeks. Patients can also attend our Intensive Outpatient Program, which is offered both in the mornings from 9 am to 12 pm and evening from 5:45 pm to 8:45 pm three times a week.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

You all truly saved my life. Myself and my family totally believe that there is nowhere else that offers the type of program that you all do! You all offer a better program than any of those crazy fancy places. I have such a deep appreciation and gratitude to Gateway and would reccomend them to closest friends and family as well as anyone else who is looking for help!

Took a sponsee today and got him in to Gateway. The staff was super helpful. Five stars specifically to Chiquitah, the nurse on duty that handled the intake. She went above and beyond to help us with an issue we were having. Super friendly. The intake didn't take long, the waiting room was clean, and I left with lots of hope.

Yeah I took a picture while I was waiting to be one of the first four in line. I lucked out and was the third person in line. We were waiting for the employees to come in and this was the view of the sunrise as I was sitting looking at the buildings across the street. By the time the door the door opened. The four of us had created a unique bond. I was grateful for them and I could tell they were grateful for me too. The assessment took a while but I'm glad for the help offered. My journey is just beginning and this is one step in the right direction.

Gateway is a decent place to learn how to get and stay sober. I believe that there is staff that really cares about the people they try to help but on the flip side although they are a "non-profit" organization they will follow the money and drop the client if need be. PSL is a Gateway "Hook". PSL is a "cash discovery" leg for Gateway. For me promises were not met and the follow through with commitment is half hearted and incomplete. Sure they help people but for the money they receive what should the public in general expect? I believe they could and should do better but as they say.....you can't fight city hall

They have always been there for me through the years. If you need help don't be afraid to reach out to them. They will love you through anything you might be going through. Just ask them for help, they will be there for you.
