Therapist there made things worse between me & my son. Things got bad between me & him (17 yrs old) when I told him he had to clean his room ( I had always been too relaxed about it) or I wasn t going to give him more money. He overdrew his bank account to watch Apple TV shows multiple times after this knowing he had no money left in his account. And he refused to clean his room. I tried to take his bank card after that. I found out later he started telling peopLe I was mistreated him (completely untrue) after this. He didn t come home for 3 nights after starting to see this therapist (and my son wouldn t tell me where he was). Also crashed his(my car) after a night at a friends. When he came home I put the snowblower behind his car cause he tried to leave again. He called the cops. Cops said it was my car (my name on title) and made him give me the keys after talking to both of us. I told him we could work it out or he could go live with his dad (who actually mistreated him) while cops were there. Haven t had many problems with him since that day. I think he has Asperger s & is lacking some understanding of relationships and had some friends in high school who were a negative influence on him. The therapist made everything so much worse after we saw her. He has been 18 for 7+ months and she still sometimes leaving messages fir me and sending letters to set up more appts. He hasn t seen her for over a year, they don t treat adults and he is free to set up an appt with adult therapist, doctor etc but he won t because he doesn t do adult things yet. He seems ok now, accept seems like he acts much younger in sone ways than he actually is. She never asked fir my side of the story, just believed whatever he was telling her, critized me, and yelled me for leaving a message on her Catalpa voicemail ( my other sons therapists never had an issue with this and that son never had an issue with me, that son got suicidal as a teen was diagnosed as bipolar and both sons requested to come live with me full time during that time period because they were being mistreated at their Dads) about him when he wouldn t come home

Constantly reschedule appointments at a moment's notice. But they expect you to give at least 24 hours notice prior for any schedule changes. Every engagement we've had is usually three appointments/charges. 1st appointment to discuss and re-ask all the questions that you answered on their questionnaire. 2nd appointment to talk to someone to confirm all those answers are still valid (because it's been months since you filled it out), then they refer you to an actual clinician. Then the 3rd appointment where you finally talk to someone that can provide some value to the situation, and they usually just prescribe meds or refer you to other service providers.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed to stabilize clients who are exiting detox or those who are in some form of crisis. They are an important preliminary step designed to prepare clients for outpatient, sober living, or community-based care. Clients live at the treatment center and engage in intensive addiction counseling. Group and family therapy is common. Many programs also emphasize recovery-focused life skills training to support clients' sustained sobriety. Some programs offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers short-term intensive care for drug and alcohol addiction. Often part of a step-down service, PHP treatment allows you to attend treatment on-site during the day, then return home during non-treatment hours. Plans of care typically include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. Depending on your progress, the duration of a PHP can average 90 days with daily sessions running 4-8 hours per week. Most insurance providers fully or partially cover PHP treatment.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Terrible service. Be prepared to be put through the ringer financially just to sign up for services, for incompetent staff mishandles your record and billing, and to waste HOURS of your time fixing their billing errors with your insurance provider(s), submitting duplicate paperwork, doing the work FOR THEIR PAID STAFF on your own time and dollar, and hearing staff repeatedly quote "policy" that is not published anywhere and goes against what is publicly published on their site. There is no service at Catalpa that is worth the entitled demands the staff put on you, the paying client in search of the care your child needs. Catalpa has failed my children over and over, with poor quality counseling that doesn't address the core patient needs and poorer office staff behavior and treatment of the clients they claim to serve. Do yourself a favor and choose a different provider at all costs.

If I could give zero stars I would. There are a lot of great people working at this company, but there are also a lot of dingbats who are clueless as to what s going on. Scheduling appointments and or communicating with people shouldn t be this difficult. Get with the program! And stop scheduling stuff without even consulting me first thinking I m just automatically available any day that you pick workout talking to me first!!!! The receptionist has gotten a lot of things wrong. And I mean a lot! I understand problems here and there, but my God, they need a new receptionist.

I d like to give negative five stars. Strong words for this place. I would not recommend catalpa health to anybody who is looking for group therapy, based off of my experience. I also conversed with other group mates who noticed it was also a bad experience for them so I know it s not just me. The therapists and staff were far too unprofessional and biased to be mental health professionals. Everybody in group therapy should be treated equally to one another but instead, they prioritized everybody over me and treated me like a joke and never took me seriously. They not only exposed MY private scores and information to the group which is extremely unprofessional and an invasion and illegal!!! They also lectured me when I was interrupted and I politely and assertively stood up for myself and they told the interrupters that it was okay and continue. Which is far from helping either of us but teaching them that it is perfectly okay to interrupt other people and not care that you are being rude and that I should just shut up and accept it. I was bribed with points to be extra nice and baby a groupmate because she isn t willing to cooperate and they didn t feel like dealing with her and trying to help her. When I accused the therapist of bribing me, she said We just won t call it bribing, but it in fact was LITERALLY bribing. They let far too many things slide, for example, a physical poster on the wall stated that we are not allowed to share personal information and we are not allowed to talk about triggering topics. They never stopped anybody from talking about the utmost triggering topics, and when we expressed our concerns that we were triggered, they told us to, just ignore them. If you have triggers, you might know just how hard it is to simply ignore somebody shamelessly talking and joking about the most extremely unpleasant, descriptive and disturbing topics. It is not that hard to keep people in line from talking about those kinds of topics but I guess it s too hard when you re a catalpa therapist who received their degrees and license from clown school. All of what I just explained is just the tip of the iceberg, and to some it might not seem that bad, but when you are mentally unwell and needing guidance, going to therapy just to be ignored and made to feel worse, only makes you feel more mentally unwell. Every single person in that group therapy was being mistreated in some sort of way.I came out of catalpa worse than when I went in and I didn t even stay with them the full expected term. I had to drop out because in a meeting with my parents and the people in charge, I gave them a week to treat me better and actually help me or I d be leaving, but after that it all got much worse. I did not stay the week I gave them. It absolutely disgusts me that they re called mental health professionals . Catalpa is not worth the money.

I'm very concerned about what is going on at Catalpa and the high schools they have only recently collaborated with. From what I can see, Catalpa is a pill mill basically. They meet with these children for 10 minutes, and the kids walk out with very heavy meds. There is no attempt to give these children an actual SOLUTION! "here are steps you can take to control anxiety" if they even have it in the first place! Catalpa would not even know. Mark my words, this is the next opioid crisis. My child tells me that everyone is on meds from Catalpa at school right now. Aren't these Dr's regulated? Like what happened to Dr's after the Oxy problem came to light? It's only a matter of time until someone catches wind of what is going on at Catalpa and any other Dr's that may be handing out Xanax pills like candy. These Dr's should be regulated on how many scripts they can write. Esp to children. Children should be given therapy or methods to cope FIRST. I'm disgusted.

We had a horrible experience at Catalpa. My son reacted badly to a medication prescribed at Catalpa, I understand these things can happen. I called them during the weekend to know what to do, they didn t have providers on call and sent me to my own primary care. I called the next day, one of the nurses was horrible!! She yelled at me telling me this was an emergency case, she didn t let me explain my son was very slowly recovering but we needed a withdrawal protocol, no empathy, no instructions, just more rudeness. I talked to a second nurse, she suggested my son might have had a pre-existent condition of seizures, reason why he developed this reaction, no withdrawal protocol was provided. When she suggested seizures or a major condition, my heart sank. Their attitude and lack of compassion will forever stay in my mind. Catalpa turned their back on us and left us all alone. My son s pediatrician and neurology department confirmed it was a catatonic type of reaction to this medication, no seizures, nothing else. Again, I understand these things can happen. I was more surprised by the lack of professionalism and lack of empathy of the staff. When you have a child with special needs you really need empathy and compassion, not someone yelling on the phone not letting you talk and express your concerns. You need someone medically standing by your side. You are just a desperate parent looking for answers not a healthcare professional. After a six weeks ordeal, we are still dealing with the aftermath of this horrible experience.
