About Carey Counseling Center

Carey Counseling Center is based in Paris, Tennessee. The center on Virginia Street is an outpatient clinic for adults, children, and teens. If you need additional services, from residential care to sober living houses, they can refer you to other Carey Counseling Centers in the northwest Tennessee area.

Their outpatient program consists of a case management team led by psychologists, doctors, and social workers. They are part of the Tennessee Health Link, meaning that they can coordinate your care with other providers that you might have. They conduct individual and group therapy, manage your meds, and screen you for drugs or alcohol. If you’re under a DUI order, they can also assist with programs listed in your court orders. They’ll also provide crisis interventions for adults 24/7.

In addition, they’ll assist with any underlying mental conditions that you might have. If your addictions are fueled by trauma, grief, or other disorders, they’ll address those to help prevent any relapse. That way, you’ll have healthier means of coping with anger or stress. Also, if you have any questions or concerns about parenting, there’s a free online parenting class on Google Meets every Thursday afternoon.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.

12-step icon12-Step

When enrolld in an addiction recovery program that's based on the 12 step model, clients are able to cultivate recovery-focused life skills emphasizing spiritual, mental, and emotional healing. Participants receive intensive peer support in 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, open to the public, and available day and night in most communities. Self-selected sponsors guide sponsees through the recovery journey, cultivating self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability. Though these programs are rooted in spiritual principles, participants aren't required to be religiously affiliated.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

The goal of a drug intervention in Tennessee is to encourage a person with a substance use disorder to enter treatment. The process also educates family members about addiction, enabling behaviors, and treatment options. The involvement of intervention services can help with this education and provide guidance for the intervention itself and follow-up care. The professional interventionist will work with the entire family to encourage the best outcomes possible from the intervention.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

To keep you safe and comfortable during the detoxification process, a medically assisted detox provides you with a team of medical professionals who can provide the necessary medications to treat any potential withdrawal symptoms. Suddenly stopping chronic abuse of substances like alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

If you participate in motivational interviewing in Tennessee, your therapist will focus on four key strategies: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. Rather than confront or warn you to change, the clinician will allow you to explore your own motivations and decide what changes you may need to make in your life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The service is very slow, I waited more than 6 months to send me an invoice. I find the work they do in this place unprofessional, they do not seem like trustworthy people, on several occasions I hear them talking badly about patients, I think they have very little professio ... Read More

They have helped my adult son in many ways and he certainly has benefited from their services. They have addressed my son's needs and continue to do so without hesitation. I'm thankful to have their services

I took my son there when he was about 17 or so (he's 23 yrs old now) and they changed his life! He has autism and bipolar manic disorder. He wasn't diagnosed correctly at McKenzie Medical and the Dr here got him on the correct medication. We no longer live in Tennessee but I hope they see this and know he's still doing great (except for the seizures) Thanks for helping my son when no one else had a clue!I'd like to add that the medicaid in Tennessee is horrible! No dental or vision coverage??? What's up with that?? and finding a good Dr, especially a psychiatrist is a huge task. Glad to be back in Ohio where my son and I both are well taken care of physically and mentally. And we both have dental and vision coverage.

I've have had very positive experiences here. They assess and evaluate what your needs are. I've had phone appointments during COVID and video chats that went very well. Michelle, a staff member is a Godsend and very compassionate. She gave information of the whole process of where to begin in the programs. evaluation

All they want to do is shove pills down your throat that you don't need no matter how many times you tell them that's not what you need.

They are limited to the therapist that can help Veterans. They also don't have the capability of helping clients with extreme mental illnesses or many types of mental health issues. I also think they should have the ability to do complete mental health evaluations for all diagnosis. The fact that they are limited so much I believe puts many patients at risk for untreated mental health issues and suicide. They also don't seem to have the best interest of the minor children at heart when they are given a signed Order of Protection from a judge. The staff is rude, judgemental and disrespectful. No one should be treated unfairly or different than the next just because the circumstances of the situation have changed. I'm completely not comfortable going to this treatment facility because of the way they treat people. The children in my custody are still clients and should be treated with respect that they received before.

If I could give them no stars, I would. Tonya is nice but one of the desk workers sent my wife home in tears because of her rudeness and refusal to give any information or service. I highly recommend finding a different place to visit. Perhaps their other facilities have people who are actually willing to do their jobs instead of treating people who are seeking help like garbage. Absolutely would not recommend.
