About Care Resource Community Health Centers

Care Resource Community Health Centers offers primary, medical, dental and behavioral health care services for clients of all ages at locations across Florida. This includes their Fort Lauderdale location, where they provide outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling services. They accept self pay and private insurance and have a sliding fee scale for the uninsured. Some of their services are covered by grant funding and are available free of charge.

At this site, you can participate in individual, group, and family counseling services. I like that they offer different programs for people who are struggling with mental health issues and those who have substance use disorders. Their mental health counseling program focuses on people who are living with or affected by HIV or AIDS. During their sessions, they’ll learn how to adjust to their diagnosis and improve their relationships.

Their substance abuse counseling program addresses both HIV and addiction related issues. During your sessions, you’ll learn how drug and alcohol use can put you at a greater risk of contracting a communicable disease like HIV. They realize that many people can benefit from both counseling programs and allow them to weave their treatments together.

A special feature at their center is that they have a program that helps you learn the skills you need to succeed in the job market. The program is called Individual Placement and Support and it shows you how to secure and maintain employment within your community. They work closely with local employers to learn about new openings and opportunities that will fit well with their clients.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

During couples therapy in Florida, your therapist will take steps to get to know you, help you identify feelings, explore the past, develop solutions, and help you learn skills to manage relationship challenges. This process will allow you to work through conflict and strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Special thanks to nurse Bobbie-Jo. I appreciate her fierce community involvement, giving knowledge about HIV. Met her at a DJ set and I could tell she was really passionate about spreading health awareness and told me about the good work done at CARE RESOURCE, Very cool mission. I had no idea about the high impact of HIV on south Florida and treatment available, now I do! I noticed she carries the same enthusiasm from her love of disco into teaching others. Big shout out to Bobbie-Jo, thanks for all you do.

They sent bloodwork out without telling Quest what it was for. I was supposed to receive results in 5 days, I did not. I had to request them from Quest myself. Quest said they told Careresource the sample didn't have any instructions, and they never answered back, so Quest disposed of it. I called and they said they would leave a message with the medical assistant, 3 hours later no response. I call back and enter the option to receive a call back. They call back and immediately hang up on me. Wildly unprofessional and negligent
