About Acenda Integrated Health

Dating back to 1981, Cape Counseling Services - Route 9 is a leader in the prevention and treatment of drug abuse in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. They work with youth and adults from the New Jersey communities. Their recovery programs include intensive outpatient treatment, recovery support and individual counseling.

They focus on prevention as the key to reducing substance misuse. Education, advocacy and community teamwork are the three pillars that they use. They have a strong education program for all ages. They also use community and youth groups to help this work move forward.

In the intensive outpatient program, you’ll attend regular group sessions for a total of nine weekly hours. You’ll also meet with a therapist individually. You’ll discuss relapse prevention, coping skills, as well as build a community with others on the same path. During individual counseling, you’ll explore your issues that could have contributed to addiction such as trauma or family problems.

Cape accepts many funding sources such as parole, SJI initiative, DUII initiative, Medicaid, O.C.E.A.N., Inc, DCPP and self pay. They have flexibility for those who are low income and uninsured.

This is a secondary listing to appear to have more positive reviews from allies of Acenda. Read the other listing. and Read this: Same place, different name, "Acenda" is Cape Counseling, the same sub-par government funded mh clinic, with a creepy new website and label slapped on top. Years ago, they had no website, very little accountability (I can only assume not much has changed in this regard, Cape May County tradition), and dodged most uncomfortable questions. Their corporate office was snooty and unhelpful, and their waiting room was incredibly depressing, full of suicide hotlines and illness posters. How about a "Hope" poster? Or a support group? A few of the counsellors were kind enough, but they were overworked and underpaid. This is a place that still today will not offer treatment without a contract that forces you to consume highly addictive poisonous medications. I was back in the area and called upwards of twenty licensed psych practitioners/counsellors in a search for someone who could offer a psych evaluation and treatment free of forced medications and other barbarism. I found one, in all of Cape May county, who would not charge hundreds of dollars for a simple evaluation, and who would provide counseling without forcing drugs. That is an unacceptably low ratio and very dangerous for those in the area seeking help. In Cape May County, the prescribers themselves do not even understand what the medications actually do in the body, are not sufficiently aware of the latest research in psych meds, downplay dangers and side effects, offer few if any natural or noninvasive treatments, and are politicized/polarized to medicate and then medicate some more if the medications give the consumer symptoms or should new problems arise. I know this through years of personal experience and interviews from real patients. It's a draconian awful system and most of the world has realized that this type of "help" isn't helping anyone. "Acenda" markets to young women and teens, giving youth high doses of mind and body altering medications that can forever affect the cognitive abilities of the patient/consumer. These medications are not only highly addictive and very difficult to withdrawal from, they very quickly begin to destroy your organs, make you feel terrible and lethargic, or even bring on the very episodes and bad feelings people are being told the medications are supposed to alleviate. You may spend 30+ minutes in the waiting room, but you will be lucky to spend but ten minutes with your psychiatrist, and half of that time is checking your weight and height. You can get several different diagnoses from different practitioners within the same facility, after spending only a few minutes talking. I strongly urge you or your loved one to shop elsewhere, do more research and when seeking help, don't give up and go to "Acenda." No one is ascending anywhere from there. Most of the Psych issues treated at "Acenda" are either an underlying physical or environmental health issue, that can be resolved over time with good counseling, making adjustments and seeing a real doctor to rule out any serious physical health deficiencies. If you do choose this place, you/the consumer are likely signing up for years of poor to poorer health, and a very difficult road to recovery if/when you decide to get off the meds (realizing what most of us do, sometimes too late) and try what these counselors and mental health "professionals" should have been advocating all along: actual health, with healthy solutions and lifestyle changes that can lift, if not very quickly then over time, most of the maladies they claim to treat. Best wishes. For more info look up Mad in America or Paradigm Shift in Mental Health.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. In order to be eligible for the program, clients must be 18 years or older and a resident of Cape May County. They must have an Axis I mental health diagnosis, through they may a secondary substance abuse diagnosis as well. Clients should present with a high degree of clinical risk as evidenced by recent hospitalizations or multiple screenings.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off addictive substances. When you become physically dependent on alcohol or drugs, quitting abruptly can cause a host of challenging and uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals will be on hand to monitor any symptoms, to provide medication if possible, and to help keep you as safe and as comfortable as possible throughout this process.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New Jersey typically follows a set structure of treatment. The therapist helps clients identify their life challenges and their thoughts surrounding those challenges. The client then learns to identify unhealthy thought patterns and reshape those into healthy patterns of thinking and behavior.

Dialectical means opposing. The premise of dialectical behavior therapy is to learn how two things that seem to be opposite can actually be true. You learn how to accept yourself while also making changes. The focus is on accepting your emotions and changing how you manage them.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy is more than a simple meal plan during rehab. It's designed to facilitate a faster recovery by giving your body the nutrients it needs to heal. It aids in strengthening your systems and giving you the energy you need for daily functioning and success in other therapies.
