Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. In order to be eligible for the program, clients must be 18 years or older and a resident of Cape May County. They must have an Axis I mental health diagnosis, through they may a secondary substance abuse diagnosis as well. Clients should present with a high degree of clinical risk as evidenced by recent hospitalizations or multiple screenings.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I am an IT professional who has struggled with life-long mental health issues throughout school and my professional life. My wife and I chose this provider as it was the 'first available' and 'closest' to home.My mental health journey started when my first child was born. It was an eye opening moment. After some GP visits, he insisted I have an ADHD / Attention issue, I started therapy, and then started coming to Acenda for Psychiatry.I am met with nothing but resistance, dismissive tones, and a nonchalant attitude towards issues that are affecting me, my life, and the life of my family in major, negative ways.My psychiatrist keeps asking, Why do you think you have ADHD? The answer is always the same. I don t. I have a mental health issue. My GP and therapist believe I have ADHD. This isn t something I contrived. She also repeats facts inaccurately from the previous session, which is strange, because she s there to primarily listen to me and take notes. Listening and writing things down correctly should be a huge job qualification.I was also told, Try making a list. Really? I m 42 and have an engineering degree. You think I didn t try making a list at some point in my life. It s a disrespectful and infantile way to treat clients.Maybe this location is better suited for substance abuse rehabilitation and not mental health as a whole. I feel like I m being treated as an untrustworthy criminal who they just want to get out of the office as fast as possible. If you are an educated person, taking your mental health seriously, and have talked to other mental health professionals, avoid this place.

Really bad communication..i had to pretty much beg for a discharge...and even then i still have not recieved a call asking why or to confirm that i have been discharged. I called the corporate office to speak to higher ups and was told i have to deal with the office i walked into. The service is just there in my eyes.

Can hardly reach someone to schedule appointments, staff are constantly rotating out (wonder why), and missing one or two appointments gets you served with a letter telling you they will camcel your services if you miss another one. Glad to know that accidents are rewarded with complete upheaval of your mental health via loss of access to medications. They're also the only game in town for low-income people so they know they can do that. If you have any other options, take it. Absolutely awful.

Save what little mental wellbeing you might have, dont bother with this place, they dangle appointments in your face for months, then when the date comes they dont send you the link to log on, it takes many many calls to hear back from them, only to give you another appointment that they also miss, they dont have empathy over your mental health and what you are going through, i have been trying to see one of their doctor for my anxiety and depression for 2 months without being successful, its truly a waste of time and patience

Same place, different name, "Acenda" is Cape Counseling, the same sub-par government funded mh clinic, with a creepy new website and label slapped on top. Years ago, they had no website, very little accountability (I can only assume not much has changed in this regard, Cape May County tradition), and dodged most uncomfortable questions. Their corporate office was snooty and unhelpful, and their waiting room was incredibly depressing, full of suicide hotlines and illness posters. How about a "Hope" poster? Or a support group? A few of the counsellors were kind enough, but they were undereducated in terms of relevance, and pro medication against all new evidence. This is a place that still today will not offer treatment without a contract that forces you to consume highly addictive poisonous medications. I was back in the area and called upwards of twenty licensed psych practitioners/ mh counsellors in a search for someone who could offer a psych evaluation and treatment free of forced medications and other barbarism. I found one, in all of Cape May county, who would not charge hundreds of dollars for a simple evaluation, and who would provide counseling without forcing drugs. That is an unacceptably low ratio and very dangerous for those in the area seeking help. In Cape May County, the prescribers themselves do not even understand what the medications actually do in the body, are not sufficiently aware of the latest research in psych meds, downplay dangers and side effects, offer few if any natural or noninvasive treatments, and are politicized/polarized to medicate and then medicate some more if the medications give the consumer symptoms or should new problems arise. I know this through years of personal experience and interviews from real patients. Read below and you'll see more of us giving our stories. It's a draconian, awful system and most of the world has realized that this type of "help" isn't helping anyone. "Acenda" markets to young women and teens, giving youth high doses of mind and body altering medications that can forever affect the cognitive abilities of the patient/consumer. These medications are not only highly addictive and very difficult to withdrawal from, they very quickly begin to destroy your organs, make you feel terrible and lethargic, or even bring on the very episodes and bad feelings people are being told the medications are supposed to alleviate. Heart disease, akathisia, Dysphagia and brain damage are a few of the injuries psychiatric treatments cause. You may spend 30+ minutes in the waiting room, but you will be lucky to spend but ten minutes with your psychiatrist talking, and half of that time is checking your weight and height. You can get several different diagnoses from different practitioners within the same facility, after spending only a few minutes talking. I strongly urge you or your loved one to shop elsewhere, do more research and when seeking help, don't give up and go to "Acenda." No one is ascending anywhere from there. Most of the Psych issues treated at "Acenda" are either an underlying physical or environmental health issue, that can be resolved over time with good counseling, making adjustments and seeing a real doctor to rule out any serious physical health deficiencies. Look into breathwork, EDMR, peer support groups. If you do choose this place, you/the consumer are likely signing up for years of poor to poorer health, and a very difficult road to recovery if/when you decide to get off the meds (realizing what most of us do, sometimes too late) and try what these counselors and mental health "professionals" should have been advocating all along: actual health, with healthy solutions and lifestyle changes that can lift, if not very quickly then over time, most of the maladies they claim to treat. Best wishes. For more info look up Mad in America or Paradigm Shift in Mental Health.PS *notice there are no replies on my response but are on every single other review and complaint... this is because they KNOW me, ttys***

This place was at least decent until Acenda took over. People are ignorant, you can never get an appointment, when you try to get a hold of anyone there, whether it be scheduling or whoever, all you get is answering machines. It s absolutely horrendous.
