About Buffalo Valley, Inc

Buffalo Valley in Castalian Springs, Tennessee is a community based substance abuse treatment center. In addition to offering addiction treatment, they also provide housing services to disabled, homeless and low income individuals. The different types of housing include affordable permanent housing, emergency shelter and transitional housing. The programs available at this center include inpatient and outpatient treatment and detoxification.

Buffalo Valley also provides a variety of other resources to help improve clients’ lives including job placement services and life skills counseling. They also work with the Community Correction Services and Federal Probation to offer recovery for individuals who’ve been incarcerated as an alternative to jail time.

This organization stands out to me for working to help clients in every way possible. Beyond just providing addiction treatment, they help individuals be confident in themselves and establish a healthy, productive life.

They achieve this through services such as their self-esteem enhancement training and life skills counseling. In inpatient rehabilitation, Buffalo Valley staff members assist clients with changing behaviors, repairing relationships and creating a lifestyle that encourages continual recovery. Clients will participate in both individual and group therapy throughout their stay.

Residential clients will also be able to enjoy recreational activities such as going to the gym, meditation and relaxation classes and therapeutic work activities. Buffalo Valley is licensed to treat patients with co-occurring disorders and can help those with addiction who are struggling with anxiety, depression or other mental health issues.

Additionally, certain clients can receive prioritized admission to the facility, including pregnant women and IV drug users. The center also has transitional housing available specifically for veterans who are struggling with drug addiction, as well as those who are homeless or unemployed.

I must say reading the reviews on here right before going to this rehab had me slightly worried, but my experience at this rehab was awesome the staff are nice the environment was very comfortable and laid back and the director Mr Doug was above and beyond all expectations. But it's the other clients that make this place truly great. It's an amazing brotherhood that is one of a kind and no one judges anyone because they all understand what you are going through. I can't give enough credit to the nurse my counselor ashli the director Mr Doug and shama the mentor for just showing that they care about a person as down on their luck and in bad shape as myself and I'm thankful for what they do for people like me .Of course anyone who's not ready to change will have a bad experience at any rehab but at this place I think anyone can have a good start to their recovery ..thanks guys Matthew

Not great. Sent my son a package and it got there after he had left. Instead of returning it to sender they opened it on the side, shopped through it, sealed it back up with clear tape and THEN returned it to sender. Money, cigarettes, FaceToner (non alcohol), lots of new products all missing. All that was sent back was his clothes. Shady business. Shady.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Tennessee, also known as a halfway house, refers to a group residence for men or women who are recovering from addiction. These are usually privately owned homes or houses owned by a nonprofit or business. Most are located in quiet residential areas. Residents have their own rooms or share a room with one roommate, and they share common areas. Each resident pays rent and helps with household maintenance.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Safe detox requires 24-hour clinical care in Tennessee. This is due to the health risks that are involved during withdrawal. As the brain reacts to the absence of the drug, severe symptoms can occur, depending on the type of drug used. For instance, alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal may result in seizures. Fortunately, supervised care in a clinical setting can provide the necessary treatment to avoid health risks and allow you to complete detox safely.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.

Clinical Services

Typical cognitive behavioral therapy in Tennessee involves recognizing negative thinking and learning techniques to change that thinking and create new, positive behaviors. Strategies may include SMART goals, journaling, and situation exposure.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

i went to the nashville location and the only reason why i am making a review on this location because the nashville one says permanently closed. i just want to say this is the worst place i have ever been. the room beside me was being spraying for bed bugs and the beds are not the type of beds that you want to be detoxing on. my legs have burns from the sheets and being restless and the day shift nurses are the worse nurses i have ever dealt with in my life. they do not help you and they are very rude. very rude and unhelpful. the food is disgusting and just everybting about this place is trash. do not come to nashville to get clean because all it will do is make it worse. the blankets are thin and it s freezing in there. you get no sleep because they are constantly calling things over the loud speaker. if people are detoxing trying to sleep why the hell would you keep calling through a speaker to find people. they are that freaking lazy and don t realize that we can barely get sleep while detoxing so why keep disturbing everyone. god i hate this place. if the other locations are as bad as nashville do not waste your time.

If I could rate this place a 0 I would. They about killed me.. had to go to emergency room after leaving there because I was so close to a stroke. And all they would do is give u comfort meds like ibuprofen, melatonin, and they do not allow even a supervised call to family. Red flag there.....I've got more to say but am not even in any condition now to write more. Oh and after going outside too wait for my ride, they let me set out there throwing up and diarrhea without allowing me to use the restroom.....God don't like ugly and this place is ugly! Not to mention everyone who works there is on Suboxone too ...what a joke. I will say the nurse Briana and Josh are the absolute best nurses there are but they can only do so much.....thank u josh and Briana

Kept me abstinent that's about it. I went on a grant so I can't really complain for free rehab, however, you get what you pay for. They were VERY quick to discharge people for breaking even the slightest rule so they could get another patient in, more grant money and keep the revolving door going. Wash, rinse, repeat. IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PLACE. More down time than anything, no recovery literature available. Spent most of the day dwelling in our thoughts. I could go on for awhile. Oh, and the food was absolutely LOUSY!

Don't act or tell anyone that you don't want to be there, because they will kick you out... Never in my life heard of a rehab doing that... I mean, who really wants to be at rehab?
